TRAILS IN VILAS COUNTY REMAIN OPEN
GTS Trails app shows no grooming overnight.

Tomorrow morning the Vilas County Forestry, Rec & Land Department will post the official PSA announcing the closure of snowmobile trails in Vilas County with date & time. This following a majority vote by the 11 member clubs of the Vilas County Snowmobile Alliance.

Announcement from Howard Wolf, President of the Sno-Eagles Snowmobile Club:
“We have pulled the plug on grooming for the season.”  “Thank you to everyone for your support to the Sno-Eagles Snowmobile Club.”

End of season riding in much of the Sno-Eagles, Eagle River trails.  While trails are open it is “Adventure Sledding” with all conditions.  Trail 10W/13N that runs through town amazingly is still covered with thin crusty snow.  The one mile section 10E/Alt13 that heads south out of town is still in GOOD condition.  Heading south at the intersection on Alt13 is FAIR at best with POOR in the wide open areas.  10E has all sorts of conditions. FAIR, POOR & even some GOOD.  The one way trail on south side of Hwy 70E heading east has the best conditions.  The north side one way heading west for the most part is POOR & has many bare areas or water.  Heading north & west out of town will be the best better but except more & more POOR.  Avoid wide open areas as much as possible.

Catfish & Eagle Lake trails will be removed today Sunday on Catfish Lake. Sunday or Monday on Eagle Lake.

If you are going to ride do it today!

Boulder Junction Snowmobile Trail Report – March 5, 2021

It is currently 12:30 p.m., 40 degrees and sunny.

I did a trail ride to Manitowish Waters yesterday afternoon on trail 2W and came back on 8W. The ride was awesome. It was smooth and had very little brown areas in it. The exception was  trail 8/2 going west out of town. Puddles had developed and a good portion of the trail was brown, but got better before the 8/2 intersection.

We groomed 15N/6E last night with Old B still excellent, but 15N back to town is getting thin and brown.

We groomed 8E, 15S, and 8W early this morning. 8W/2W going out of town was poor from the S curve halfway to the 8/2 intersection. Going west on 8 ranged from fair to good with some bare spots in the hills and corners. Once you get to Day Lake road, the trail is very good all the way to the Rustic Roadhouse. Nixon Lake Road is still in great shape.

With temps near 40 and the sun out today, our exposed trails will deteriorate fast this afternoon. Expect puddles and quite a few bare spots along the way. Our road route through town is mostly bare pavement.

As other clubs are starting to suspend grooming, we may go out 1 more day as temps will be approaching 50 on Monday.

Please be safe out there, ride on the right, respect others, and enjoy the trails and our area businesses.

Think snow!

All Washburn County Snowmobile Trails are open at this time. Trail conditions are fair with a 2 to 6 inch snow base. Current weather conditions have resulted in ice covered trails, standing water, and bare spots in open areas. Trails in the woods tend to have better conditions. All Washburn County Snowmobile Trails will close for the season at Noon on Sunday, March 7th.

Snowmobile and Winter ATV/UTV Trails (As of 3/4/2021)

Effective Midnight on Friday, March 5, 2021, the majority of the Trails under the management of Douglas County Forestry will be closing for the winter season. Operating on closed trails is both illegal and may jeopardize our ability to use those lands for future seasons. Due to the recent warm temperatures, the trail base has eroded and the thawing snowpack has resulted in reduced quality of trails.  Ride at your own risk.

The following Douglas County managed trails will remain open after March 5:

Wild Rivers Trail
Gandy Dancer State Trail
Saunders State Trail

Thank you to all of the members of the Northwest Trails Association for the tremendous amount of work it takes to open and maintain the trail network.

Douglas County Cross Country Ski Trails
Douglas County CC Ski Trails –  The ski trails were packed on 2/25/21. With the warmer weather, no more grooming will take place on the trails this season. Fair conditions.
Superior Municipal Forest (Superior) – Groomed, but there are bare spots. Fair to good conditions.
After Hours Ski Trail (Brule) – Groomed and tracked. The trails are in fair to good condition, watch for bare spots.
Pattison State Park (Pass Required) – Trails are in fair to good condition.

Enjoy your ride and please ride safe!

Trail Report – : Three Lakes – Brule River, Wisconsin – March 5, 2021

Reporter:Threelakeswi

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 2-7”

Date of Report: March 5, 2021

Area Report:

The time is coming. The temps are getting warmer. This might be the last weekend. Or forest county portion of our trail system will close Monday March 8th at 8 am. Oneida county will make a decision next week.

If you get out in the woods, you will find some good trails. Around town and near roads, you are going to find some bare spots. The sun is bright and warm and is deteriorating the trails daily. I would say if you can get out, get out as this possibly might be the last weekend.

The lakes are all marked, however you might start to see some slush. Remember, the throttle is your friend when you hit slush. Stay close to the barrels for the safest ice.
