Snowmobile Information:

So, if you are older, this may be funny. If you are younger I may be “funny”. Back in 1978 the series “WKRP in Cincinnati” aired. Travis asked Nes about his eyewitness weather report. ” Well, I look out the window and witness the weather” Then Travis asks him how he can do helicopter traffic reports without a helicopter, and he starts beating on his chest to make it sound like a helicopter as he does his report from the sound booth. Sometimes I trail report from my sled, today by helicopter in my jammies.

Hornshoe Trailboss Nick reported thin but rideable yesterday. We had decent traffic yesterday, and my spot-checks in the afternoon showed it. We are beat up and a little scrawny out in the open areas, better in the woods. A friend rode Mercer and reported yesterday afternoon thin, but rideable, as did a groomer from Manitowish Waters this morning. White Thunder Riders to the north are still reporting positive.Weather is 30 today, chance of snow 53%, 36 tomorrow, chance of snow 73%, then 21 degrees and 15%  Wednesday and 41 degrees Thursday. After that warmer temps, but below freezing, with a chance of snow every day, for quite a distance out. I will wait until Thursday to report for the weekend as this could be good.

MS Riders are coming this week starting Wednesday, and they stay at the casino. Northern Hornshoe Club sponsors lunch at our barn Friday. They show up every year to raise money for a good cause, and they come by sled, or by bus, no matter what the conditions. An amazing group of genuine, down to earth, fun, snowmobilers, and non-snowmobilers, that just like to try and make a difference, and have fun.

Talk to you Thursday. Mark

Trail Report – : Lake Gogebic | Bergland, Michigan – January 25, 2025

Reporter:AJ’s Walleye Lodge

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: Good

Date of Report: January 25, 2025

Area Report:

The snow we’ve received over the past few day’s has been really helpful in freshening things up! It’s a very busy weekend in the Lake Gogebic Area.  Groomers are doing the best they can – they smooth the trails out and by the afternoon there are module which freeze up tight.   Trails are being hit every night but can’t keep up.

  • Trail 102: ok condition – still needs attention and being groomed nightly
  • 8w to Wakefield: horrible condition and was groomed Friday night.
  • 13n to Rockland wasn’t terrible and is also groomed nightly.

Groomers are out nightly and snow conditions have improved significantly, ut high traffic detoriatestrails quickly.

Snow in the forecast this week and much needed!

Don’t forget to get your 50/50 tickets for the Gogebic Area Grooming Benefit to take place at the Lake Gogebic Community Poker Run on March 22nd!!

Area Report:

Trails are open and definitely rideable. The groomers have been out the last few nights which has helped keep the trails in pretty good shape as there is heavy traffic in Land O today. Hope that  WI counties other than Vilas and Iron open soon to spread out the riders.  Michigan trails are easily accessible from the Frosty Club trails and are being groomed regularly as well.

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 0-6″

Date of Report: January 24, 2025

Snowmobile Information:

Northern Hornshoe Lakes are marked, but not Shisheboganna due to Oneida County Trails still closed. Ice is good but off of the marked trails, the powdery snow is slippery. Fence Lake is marked, but it has two heaves that require extreme caution. The trails are marked, and there are barrels clearly marking where they cross the heaves. The rest of the land trails are showing wear from traffic, but holding up thanks to the ice layer underneath. We will be grooming tomorrow, Saturday, thanks to Cruisers loaning us their Piston Bully again. F trail from Gunlock Road to 47 is a little bumpy, with some wear spots. 17, the main grade from Mattke Rd, to Stearns Lake Rd, has some gravel spots where the sun got at it. Trail 1, Stearns Lake Rd, and East Boundary, is plowed back to the dirt, but there is snow to be found. 17 from Stearns to H is pretty good. Club trail from H down to the Lakes has the truck rut areas between H and 47. Stay in the middle. Raven Lake area is wide open and rideable, but caution is advised if you don’t stay on trail. I saw where sleds tried to run up the banks and found some rocks unearthed from construction. Trail 5 into the Casino needs grooming. 17 north from 5 to Harrisons is pretty good. North to the Powell Marsh is thin, but covered well. Powell Marsh has areas with no snow. 40% chance of snow tomorrow. We are open and rideable, just need to use caution with thin spots and ice.
