Trail Report – : Sayner, Wisconsin – December 14, 2025

Reporter:SaynerStar Lake Barnstormers

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover: 4-5″

Date of Report: December 14, 2025

Area Report:

The Thanksgiving storm brought us a good amount of snow, but also cursed us with a significant amount of downed trees to deal with.  Just like all the clubs in our area, we are so thankful for the dozens of volunteers that stepped up and helped clear the trails again.  As of today, the Barnstormer trails are 95% clear.

We had our system inspected yesterday & passed!  The rest of the Vilas county clubs have either had their inspections already, or have them scheduled for this upcoming week.

When do the trails open?  The county alliance is meeting on Wednesday this week to discuss this.  Pay attention to “Sayner Barnstormers Snowmobile Club” on Facebook for potential announcements on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning.

There have been numerous posts & comments on Facebook regarding the lakes.  Let’s be very clear about a few things.

1.  The clubs ARE NOT responsible for checking lakes and putting out markers!  Lake crossings ARE NOT part of the official trail system!

2.  It is local businesses that take care of marking the lakes.

3.  The decision to open trails has NOTHING to do with whether the lakes are safe to cross or not.

4.  Nobody should cross lakes until they are marked!

Mark your calendars for these upcoming Barnstormer events:

Wednesday, December 31 – Breakfast at Sayner Pub from 9:00 – Noon.  Blessing of the sleds at 12:30 under the arch.

Saturday, January 10 – Brats on the trail at TIN #217 from 10:00 – 4:00.

Saturday, January 17 – Breakfast at Stillwaters from 8:00 – 11:00.

Saturday, February 7 – Chili dump at The Murm from 2:00 – 5:00.

Sunday, February 15 – Pizza fundraiser at Hillside Tavern from 4:00 – 8:00.

Saturday, March 14 – Drawing for Snowmobile Raffle at Sayner Pub at 5:00!

Trail Report – : Ashland County, Wisconsin – December 14, 2025

Reporter:info@visitashland.com

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover: 6-12

Date of Report: December 14, 2025

Area Report:

First, we want to remind everyone that the waterfront trail is not open to motorized vehicles, including snowmobiles and ATVs. Anyone caught riding on the waterfront trail will be ticketed.

Ashland County snowmobile trails are currently closed, with hopes of opening by January 1st.

Despite below-zero weekend weather, Ashland County Snowmobile Club volunteers are out braving the elements to clear brush and trees from more than 200 miles of trails. Thank you to all volunteers for your continued time and dedication!

Work on the Ashland Club trails is underway. We have not been able to access all trails yet due to restrictions until the 15th. Crews will be out this week assessing trail conditions, with packing and grooming to follow. A work day is scheduled for the 20th—please contact Mike for details.

If anyone is available to help this week by packing trails, clearing swamps, or trimming trees, please contact Mike. The trails are not open for recreational riding at this time.

Significant progress has been made across Ashland County. Crews continue working on the system, and some trails have already been panned.

Trail Report – : Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin – December 13, 2025

Reporter:Toulish1

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover: 8-14″

Date of Report: December 13, 2025

Snowmobile Information:

It is currently -10 as I log in. Hornshoe group has been working hard on trail work this week. Trail boss Nick put our groomers on stand down for the weekend due to the cold temps. We also have some neighbors that need help. BoulderJunction still has extensive tree damage that needs cleanup. They have been out every day with crews and equipment trying to open up the trails, and they still have a ways to go. Hornshoe Club is putting together a group Monday morning to go up and help. If you are in a position to help, please do so. If you have any equipment to offer, that would be great, but just having hands to move the brush that is cut up goes a long way. The last work party I was on, we had one guy on a chainsaw, one on a polesaw, and four of us pulling branches. If the chunks were too big, we threatened to go on strike, and the pieces got smaller. It is amazing how much gets done. We can’t open until the trails are cleared and safe, and the county gives us a passing grade. Mark

Date of Report: December 12, 2025

Area Report:

Trails remain CLOSED at this time.

We are getting closer, most trails have been panned. With the couple days of frigid cold coming this weekend, it should set it up. We have an inspection date set with the county to check the trails, then we can decide what date the trails will open. All the clubs in Vilas County have been busy clearing trees and panning the trails. It won’t be long, we would like to get some more snow on our system. Areas to the north and west have twice as much snow than us. Keep doing your snow dances!
