December 23, 2018 8:00am – 24 degrees – Afternoon SNOW flurries

There is SNOW moving in this afternoon but the flurries variety.  The best better for SNOW looks like late Wednesday through Friday.  Could be good totals.  But it is a few days away so don’t stop DOIN’ THE DANCE!!

The Vilas County Snowmobile Alliance met December 19th in Lac du Flambeau. The vote on trail opening was for the trails to remain closed. There just isn’t enough snow at this point.  Here is the official PSA from Dale Mayo, Parks & Recreation Administrator:

So for now it’s a waiting game.  Keeping DANCIN’ & stay tuned.

Boy oh boy getting hard to wait to go riding! Hope to see you on the trails soon!

1:15 PM overcast 22deg.
My first report of the year, wish I could say something positive but that not the case.
Our and all trails in Vilas county are CLOSED until further notice.
Most area trails are thinly covered with many bare spots and some wet areas.
With little and no significant snow fall in the forecast things are not looking good.
Will update as soon as conditions improve!!

Trail Report – : Land O’ Lakes, Wisconsin – December 22, 2018

Reporter:Phil

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover: White again and Colder

Date of Report: December 22, 2018

Area Report:

Trails remain closed until further notice but the weahter has taken a turn for the better. Highs in the 20s and on and off snow showers the past couple of days. Some of the weather forecasters are predicting more cold and snow on the way. Swamps are frozen, lakes are frozen so maybe we will be having winter fun for the Holiday period.

Trail Report – : Mercer, Wisconsin – December 21, 2018

Reporter:Dear Lodge

Trail Conditions: Poor

Snow Cover: 4

Date of Report: December 21, 2018

Area Report:

We need snow to upgrade the trails, the grade is opened but icy. The forecast looks good for colder weather [ mid to upper twenty’s and teens at night. No sun for the rest of the year ] Not much snow in the forecast for a couple of weeks but that can change, Right now, cold with no snow would be great for a bit. We will not be marking the flowage till next weekend. IT IS NOT SAFE ENOUGH TO MARK THE WHOLE THING. When we mark it we figure for 50 plus sleds stopping at any one spot on the trail. This would be a good weekend to get a table or bar stool

MERRY CHRISTMAS

BE SAFE

Date of Report: December 20, 2018

Area Report:

THE VILAS COUNTY SNOWMOBILE TRAIL SYSTEM WILL REMAIN CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. The Vilas County Snowmobile Alliance met on December 19, 2018. There was a unanimous decision to keep the area trails closed and not project a possible opening date. The extended forecast does not call for enough snow to create an adequate base and we are seeing some of the low areas starting to thaw.We will make an announcement at such time the trails can open safely.

Snowmobile season is around the corner! Start planning your Boulder Junction getaway today.
