Trail Report – : Land O’ Lakes, Wisconsin – January 22, 2019

Area Report:

I have been out and about on the Frosty Club and many other area trails the past few days and everything we rode was in good to excellent shape. Been on the Land O Lakes, Phelps, Conover, and Boulder Junction trails all week and they did not disappoint.Groomers are running nightly. It is going to be another cool weekend so bundle up and enjoy some great riding.

Thank You to the Gateway Lodge and the 125 people who attended the Comedy Night at the Gateway. Another successful Frosty Club fundraiser. Smooth trails would not happen without your continued support.

Trail Report – : Stephenson County, Illinois – January 23, 2019

Area Report:

I will rate the trails as good with the snow we had last night. The trails will get better when we can get out and work on them. The Jane Addams was groomed on Monday and should be excellent. If you are riding STAY ON MARKED TRAILS OR STAY HOME, we have had a report of someone riding all over one of our fields, the land owner gave us permission to cross field not to run all over it. We have put our trail boxes out in the stops on our trails so please remember to FEED THEM.

The big snowfall prediction for this week missed us….We received an 1″ of new fluff over the last 24 hours. No doubt a couple of inches would have been a big improvement, but the trails are still in fair shape. For the most part they are hard and smooth. There has been very little traffic lately to break the trail base down. The groomer drivers continue to report back the trails are in better than expected shape.

There are a few trails that keep the overall rating to fair. The bypass trail (along hwy 8) is thin because it is mostly all exposed to the sun. The trail 15/17 south towards Gleason has a large section of logging (trail is plowed for logging trucks) and the road route is icy.

The rest of the trails are fair / good shape.

The groomers continue to run the normal nightly routes. There is good riding out there. Be safe and stay right.

VILAS COUNTY TRAILS TO INCLUDE SNO-EAGLES TRAILS ARE OPEN!
Trails Good to Fair

January 23 2019 6:15am – 13 degrees – High of 20

Total SNOW on the east side of Eagle River is 3 inches. A little less in town. All trails covered with fresh SNOW. Really improving conditions. Most trails are in Good shape this morning. Over night grooming.

The freezer door is closed so the temps did come up & it’s overcast. Great time to ride!! 20’s yesterday with continue today. Thursday looks to be in the low teens. Then the deep freeze returns on Friday with a high of 3 below & double digit below at night for the next week.

Little or no problem areas to report. “The grade” Trail 13/3 in town is in good shape and so are other open areas. Little or no sun is a good thing. West could still use more SNOW but still not bad with the new cover. Expect the high hill trail on 70W across from the Wisconsin River to thin out as the traffic increases. Trail 10E between Loon Lk Rd. & Bloom Lk Rd could use more SNOW. After that section 10E really improves all the way out. Same with heading north & west.

Worth repeating is that:

Sno-Eagles Country has 2 areas that have one-way trails. 10E is a one-way trail from the ERRA Sports Arena all the way out to Nicolet Mini Mart. The other is the 13’s up near Buckatabon Bridge & Bauer’s Dam area. Clearly marked with DO NOT ENTER signs. Plus trail signs are backwards if you are going the wrong way.

EAGLE LAKE TRAIL & CATFISH LAKE TRAIL ARE MARKED & OPEN. Stay by the reflective orange barrels. Do not drift away from the barrels as it is not safe to do so. Remember not all lakes have trails so if you don’t see marker do not ride on it to be safe. These are the only 2 lakes that are marked in Sno-Eagles Country. No other lake trails.

Also there is a dusk to dawn speed limit of 55 MPH.

The area received approximately 2-3 inches of new snow on 1/21/2019. All trails under the management of the Douglas County Forestry Department are now open for the season with the exception of the Saunders Grade.

SW Quadrant

All trails in the SW Quadrant are open at this time.

SE Quadrant

All trails are open at this time. Most trails are groomed and in good condition. The base is icy in many areas, please use caution.

The segment of trail 41n which was closed is now open and is in fair condition. Watch for signs delineating a newly developed route and please watch for logging activity.

Trails 41S, 41B, 541 are all scheduled for grooming on 1/23/2019.

Trails 217 and 17N will be groomed on 1/24/2019.

Trail 17S is open but rough in many spots due to lack of snow. Please use caution.

Trail 3 is in good condition but very icy, will not be groomed again until more snow falls. Please use caution.

NE Quadrant

Please watch for low hanging brush and limbs.

All trails are open. Conditions vary from good to very good, even excellent in most places. Trails are better to the north and thinner and icy to the south.

All trails with the exception of Trail 635 have been groomed.

NW Quadrant

All trails are open and everything has been groomed recently except for the Crosstown Trail which will be groomed by 1/23/2019. Trails are in good condition with icy segments. Please watch for brush and low hanging limbs.

Douglas County Ski Trails
The area received approximately 2-3 inches of new snowfall. Grooming and tracking of the trails are set for 1/23/2019. The trail is currently in icy and poor condition.

Superior Municipal Forest – All trails were groomed on January 22. The tracks have been set on the red and green trails. This week is a free ski week for the Lake Superior Ice Festival, no pass is needed through Sunday, January 27^th.

After Hours Ski Trail – Is reporting good conditions, but slick. New snow has fallen; conditions should improve with grooming over the weekend. Please watch for some debris especially under the pine trees.

Pattison State Park – Is reporting good conditions with minimal debris.

Ashland County Snowmobile Report January 22, 2019
Trails in AC are open, except the trail from Marengo north to the East end of Ashland, that section is closed. Trails are being groomed from Marengo South. AND!!! North of Marengo is being groomed today!!! There is a detour on 77 by Cayuga. Detour is posted. We did get a few inches of fresh snow so the groomers are out there on the trails.

The Tri-County Corridor is OPEN.

As always please follow the snowmobile trail rules and regulations. Stay on trail, as much of the Ashland County snowmobile trail system uses private property and could be lost if the property owners experiences issues. The most common complaints are snowmobiles not staying on trails or going off into fields that are not part of the trail, and loud noise from non-stock muffler systems. Respect the trail system so that it remains open. As always operate with everyone’s safety in mind and report any hazardous trail issues that are observed to the Ashland County Sheriff’s Department (715-682-7023 opt 1) so that it can be forwarded to the appropriate service.

“Baby its cold outside!” So dress accordingly, frostbite happens very quickly on a snowmobile with exposed skin. Chance of snow this week. I will update accordingly. Manitowish Waters trails remain in good condition. I know it’s hard to believe after all the traffic, but we are still hearing good things about the trails. (A testament to what the wet snow followed by cold a couple weeks ago did for our base) The trails are flat & have a good, solid base. Expect colder temps this weekend. Watch the corners as they may be icy from the heavier traffic this week.

Manitowish Waters , Wisconsin - Snowmobiling Conditions & News The Manitowish Waters Sno-Skeeters snowmobile club was founded in 1968 and is one of the oldest snowmobile clubs in existence today in Wisconsin. Located in the very northwest corner of Vilas county, Manitowish Waters borders the Lake Superior snow-belt country. With average snowfalls of 150 inches and over 25 miles of professionally groomed trails, the area is one of Vilas County’s top winter vacation areas.

The Manitowish Waters trail system is a unique hub network directly linking into 5 other trail systems. Trails Good to Fair

January 22 2019 6:30am – 17 degrees & the forecast high for today.

The 1-4 inches of SNOW forecast turned into may 1-2 inches. So I guess those weather guys sort of got it right. Chance of a little more around lunch time. Are you DANCIN’?

Little change on the report. Not sure on grooming overnight. Best riding is still heading east, northeast, north, far northwest, south & southeast.

The trails heading west (70/7) are thin on SNOW so hard for the groomers to correct trail conditions. If you ride west try dropping down to the Trail 7 aka Paint Ball Field. Try the alternate 70’s as you get out farther. The section on the high hill across from the Wisconsin River is icy & very thin.

There is snirt at the road crossings. Plenty of sanding has been done on the roads due to the icy conditions. Same for many road trails. It is icy underneath everywhere so slow down.

Dusk to dawn speed limit of 55 MPH.

Cable Area Snowmobile Trail Report
Monday, January 21st, 2019

From our Namakagon Trail Groomers:
Trails have a 2-4″ base.
All trails were groomed Sunday 1/20, including all of the marshes.
Trails are fair to good condition throughout our area. With the cold conditions, the trails are holding up very well.

From our Drummond Sno-Jacks:
Trails are in good condition overall, and are all groomed other than Trail 4 to Sanborn due to lack of snow.

The Cable Area is expecting another 1-3″ of snow between now and Tuesday night. The highest daytime temp we’ll see in the next 10 days is 18 degrees, with most nights dipping well below zero.

Please remember that our groomers have the right-of-way and they can be out day or night grooming our trails to be the best they can be!
