Snowmobile Trail Conditions

Sno Drovers 1/26/19

The Sno Drovers’ trails in the Pike Lake area continue to be in good condition.   The extreme cold is keeping our grooming to a minimum until it warms a bit.   We’ve gotten a little new snow which certainly helps, but plan on areas of trails with small rocks on the surface as the snow is still quite thin. These wide-spread areas is what keeps me from calling the trails very good.   No bare spots and all the swamps are frozen (no kidding!).  All trails are quite smooth.

Logging continues on Trail 120 south of the big swamp and Fould’s Creek Rd and on Trail 108 between Trail 101 and highway 70.  Take these slowly and expect icy conditions and logging equipment.

Sno Gypsies 1/25/2019

As of today all of the Sno Gypsy trails have now been groomed twice this week. Trails are in good condition. With no real bare areas or to much ice. The addition of a few inches of snow helped as well.  Get out and enjoy our trails and our local Bars and restaurants. Ride safe and have fun.

Prentice Bush Benders 01/24/2019

We have received a few inches of snow over the last few days. This will help improve the trails somewhat, but they remain in fair condition in the wooded areas and poor condition with minimal snow coverage in the open areas. They are still in early season riding condition with some rough spots so use caution when riding. As of today we will start our normal grooming schedule and will be out every day panning/grooming while conditions allow. The trails to the South and East have the most snow cover and all creeks and swamps remain frozen. There is logging on trail 181 East of Prentice and on trail 116 around County Road K. Ride safe and have fun.

Eisenstein Bushwackers 1/22/2019

Groomed all Bushwacker Trails 101,103,104-105,110,and 111.  We didn’t get a lot of snow and switched to our new mogul Master Trail drag. Trails are good condition. The mogul takes the bumps off much better than the other drag. You can see this on here 105 trail is good get out and enjoy our trails Our club and our Neighbors the Sno Gypsies work very hard to give you the best possible ride.  Enjoy and Thank you from the Eisenstein Bushwackers. keep speeds down enjoy the scenery

SNO-EAGLES TRAILS OPEN!
Trails Good

January 30 2019 6:56am – 22 below zero – High of 5 below

Another very cold morning in Eagle River.  22 below right now & will probably drop just a bit more when the sun comes up.  Same cold tomorrow, Wednesday with high of 6 below & low of 17 below. Friday the cold is forecast to break with high of 13 & low of 5.  This will continue through the weekend.  Could see some sleet on Sunday & then SNOW next Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday forecast by the weather guys.  Stay tuned.

All in all trails are GOOD but very icy under the Snow.  Pays to slow down.  Straight away. Curves.  Everywhere.

No grooming in Sno-Eagles Country due to the temps.  Dangerous for the drivers & very hard on the equipment.

Not much in the line of problem areas to report.  High hill section on Trail 70W.  A few spots on the north side of 10E. Road crossings. North part of 13N heading out of town is choppy. With the cold 10/13 aka Wisconsin River bridge & 3 aka Manske Swamp are frozen tight.

Might want to reconsider riding today.  If you do wait until mid to late afternoon.  Here are some cold weather tips:

  • Do not ride alone
  • Download the “MapItVilasCo.” app See link below
  • Tell someone where you are going
  • Make sure your gas tank stays full. Stop for gas as you ride
  • Stop more often & drink warm drinks
  • Be sure you phone is fully charged.  Store in the inside pocket of your jacket.
  • Dress in layers

Worth repeating is that:

Sno-Eagles Country has 2 areas that have one-way trails.  10E is a one-way trail from the ERRA Sports Arena all the way out to Nicolet Mini Mart.  The other is the 13’s up near Buckatabon Bridge & Bauer’s Dam area.  Clearly marked with DO NOT ENTER signs.  Plus trail signs are backwards if you are going the wrong way.

EAGLE LAKE TRAIL & CATFISH LAKE TRAIL ARE MARKED & OPEN. Stay by the reflective orange barrels.

THINK SNOW!!!

See ya on the trails when it warms up!!!

Snowmobile Trail Conditions

Sno Drovers 1/26/19

Given the extreme cold forecasted for Wednesday, we’re going to cancel our planned club ride for January 30th.    While Sno Drovers’ toughness is legendary, we decided not to push it.  A HIGH of -9 doesn’t sound like fun.   Hopefully we’ll find some nicer weather (and maybe even more snow) in February.

Trail Conditions: Excellent

Area Report:

Hello Riders!

To all that are out there today and the next two days…We solute you! You are die hards and we love it! Just as the rest of the Midwest we are experiencing frigid temps today and through Thurs. Much of the county received about 2″ on Sunday night. It was great to have added to the top of our nice flat base. This snow also allowed some more groomers to get out and about and all are reporting that the trails are laying down very nice! This flat, solid layer with the snow on top has made for smooth trails and very EXCELLENT conditions!

The area’s reported to be groomed are;
Trail 21 from 319 to 18, trail 18 from the Flowage to trail 5, trail 12 from the Flowage to 18, 5 from 18 south of Wolfs Eagle Lodge.
Trail 9 from Blueberry Oasis to Couderay, there is one spot to note on 9 about 1.5 miles north of Atherton Rd, there is a washout and this area has been marked. All of the Tuscobia from Birchwood to the Price County line. Trail 5 from Winter/Loretta area going north, trail 6 from Ojibwa to the dam on the Flowage.
The Seeley Hills and Moose Lake area has been groomed.
South of Birchwood unfortunately has been shorthanded the snow this year however they are getting closer to being able to groom. Those trails are now rideable and Lake Cheteq is now snow covered so that is good news! We will update as soon as groomers are able to move in that area.

The temps will continue to be very cold through Thurs then be perfect for the weekend ranging from 15-30 degrees!! We will be riding in t-shirts after this weather! Next week Monday shows about 20 degrees and a steady 12 degrees Tues through the week. This is perfect snow making temps and looks like we should get some Monday and Thursday so stay tuned for that report!

Surrounding counties: Park Falls and Bayfield reports good trails, Ashland, Washburn and Rusk are partially open, please refer to those counties as to specific trails that are open.

It will be a great weekend to ride so get your gear and head on up! And as always, thank you to all club members and volunteers!

Area Report:

Jan 29 2019

An inch of snow yesterday morning and another inch overnight. It’s also going to be very cold for a day or 2, so dress accordingly.  Frostbite can happen within minutes!!

Manitowish Waters trails remain in good condition! Julia from Dietz’s Service in Manitowish Waters put a bunch of miles on yesterday. She said, “Cruisers trails down south were flat and great, the same in MW,  trails good in Mercer but a bit bumpy”   (busy weekend, I’m sure they have them flat now)

Overall the trails are flat & have a good, solid base. The additional snow definitely helps!!  Expect colder temperatures into this weekend. Watch the corners, as they may be icy from the heavier traffic this week.
