warm today in the 40s , el-nino , cold starting tomorrow until next week then warm again, storms going all around us, another 1 inch on the way, we are very sad to hear about John Dee our weather guy , hope somebody takes that site over. We will miss him.

TRAILS REMAIN CLOSED
First report of the season & it’s a glum one. Currently SNOW depth is almost non existent. But before you START DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE. You need to THINK COLD. Temps were headed in the right direction until late last week. Highs have been in the 30’s or higher during the day. So what light SNOW we had on the ground is nearly all gone.
In the meantime the club is completing sign updates, brushing & doing plenty of re route. When the trails open I will expand on the re routes. This is a year that you definitely should by a new trail map.
Todd Bierman, Park & Rec Supervisor is out doing trail inspections by truck or ATV/UTV. So that when we do get SNOW the Vilas County Alliance can take a vote to get the trails open as quick as possible. The PSA announcement will come from Todd when trails in Vilas are set to open. NO RIDING BEFORE.

Next Gen Riders

Hello snowmobilers,
I want to share a little about what Next Gen Riders is all about. Myself, Nick Grams along with the help of the Burzinski girls, Lynsey and Rachyl (aka former Miss Snowflakes) have been working together to start something new that supports and grows the sport of snowmobiling. The age demographic we are trying to get involved with Next Gen is 21-35 year olds. This age demographic was chosen to catch the “in between” age in snowmobiling. The youth group in WI ages out at 21 so this would the next thing for them, and we’re still in our 20s and early 30s trying to figure our young adult lives out.
Support:
Basically what we are trying to do is support snowmobiling at the state, county, and local snowmobile clubs big and small. When I say support, get a group of us with a passion for sledding together as a resource for clubs and the AWSC to reach out to help in any ways they see fit. From signing, brushing, grooming, event prep, takedown, education, social networking, safety instructors, and more I know will come. This is how we have discussed how to support the sport. We are just starting out and open to suggestions and ideas on what else we can do to support snowmobiling!
Grow:
Growing this sport is so important to the future of it! How do we get people who have never been on a sled, on one in a safe and fun environment? So far the three of us along with some AWSC members at the state level have discussed setting up first time riding events to get “new riders” out on a machine. This would take tremendous support and many pieces to come together, but would be so beneficial! Even if only 1-10 of those “new riders” love the sport and want to get involved and start riding, we would be getting ahead! That’s how we want to grow this sport we love. Again, very early and in the brain storming planning stage of this so always open to ideas and suggestions.
We are currently working on becoming a committee within the AWSC. As of now we are planning on becoming an official committee at the January AWSC directors meeting. It would be super cool to get a group of us to join at our committee table in January to show support and show we exist! Connect fellow riders! Maybe get a ride in too! More details on this date and such to come!

Hello everyone, welcome back as we are gearing up for the next snowmobile season. Currently, we do not have any snow to report on for you. But, we are hopeful and will be sure to post as soon as we have a change for the trail report. On a positive note… we are having cold temps which is ALWAYS a plus this time of year!!
So wishing you and your family a very “Happy & Merry” Holiday season from Iron County Michigan! And for all of us Winter Lovers… it’s almost Snow Time!! 🙂

Our trails will not open until dec 15th,if we have enough snow.Many of our trails go through private land and the owners Muzzle load deer hunt until dec 15th.If we have enough snow,our trails will open then.See you on the Trail!!

I hope everyone had a safe and happy Thanksgiving. It’s pretty quiet here in the western UP so far this year. As of today there is no snow on the trails and very little chance in the forcast. So it’s not looking good for opening day in 7 days. I will keep everyone posted if things change.
The good news however is we will be having a ribbon cutting on November 30th for the opening of trail 3. Trail 3 from Dollar Bay to Lake Linden has been closed from the Father’s day floods in 2018. The repairs began this spring and where just completed last month.
