Hello Riders!!

What a great weekend! We finally have the conditions we have all longed for and the riders were out in full force! As mentioned last Thursday we received approximately 5-6” of fresh snow in much of the county and with that followed the cold temps so the snow set up nicely and the groomers were out in full force!

Many groomers were out the week prior to the snow and warm temps cutting trails so they were nice and flat so when the new snow fell and the temps set the snow set up beautifully! And the riding this weekend proved that! The forecasted temps continue to be cold but once again, we dress for the occasion! We are snowmobilers, we don’t let cold stop us, we throw on another balaclava, a heated shield some handlebar muffs and we ride!
Without great new snow on Thursday and temps dropping Friday our groomers set out to ready trails for the weekend. Saturday the groomers are not out during the day as strongly as the big equipment can pose a danger on the heavily traveled trails on the weekend. But Sunday-Thursday they are always back in action! Many groomers have been out over the last 24 hours and will continue to work hard on those trails through the week to make for some excellent riding this holiday weekend! Trails reported to be groomed since the weekend so far are;

The Seeley Hills – trails 63, 8, 77, 22 and 31.
Trail 8 from Nelson Lake to the Washburn County line
Round Lake to Lost Land Lake to Moose Lake and to the Chippewa Flowage – 9 from Round Lake to 5 east, trails 3, 5 south, 18 and 12. 21N and 3 to 8. 5/21 to 319 and 320
Trails 17 and 31
Trail 9 south
Winter area and Tuscobia/9 mile loop is groomed – do note they are down a groomer with maintenance so they are do the system with one.
Flambeau Forest

All surrounding counties are now reported to be open according to Travel WI reports; Ashland, Bayfield, Washburn, Rusk, Barron and Price

We are going to be in for a great weekend of riding! Pull out your layers and dress warm and get those sleds ready for a long weekend! Thank you to all of our volunteers for their hard work and thank you to you for choosing Sawyer County as your riding destination!

And if you want to get a chance to win some money keep your eyes peeled for the “Sawyer County Snowmobile Friendly” signs out there and take a selfie with it tagging #sawyersled2020 and the Hayward Lakes Convention Bureau! What a fun way to show your great times in Sawyer County!

Trail Report – : Rhinelander, Wisconsin – February 9, 2021

Reporter:Hodag SnoTrails

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: Good solid base

Date of Report: February 9, 2021

Area Report:

The trails are set with a good solid base are are holding up tight with the frigid cold.  I would rate the trails as VERY GOOD.  The only reason they aren’t “excellent” is the road routes are pretty thin, and we can’t control that.   If you can overcome the cold, the trails are nearly perfect.  Please be aware, we try to do all of our grooming at night, but there are instances that we have activity in daylight.  Keep a watchful eye out for groomers on the trail.  If you meet a groomer, please pull over and let them by.

We are continuing to groom on our regular schedule.  All lakes are marked and ready for traffic.  It is always beneficial to ride near the lake markers for the best ride.  There are some signs of slush on the lakes, but they freeze up as soon as they form.  There is more a risk of frozen slush than wet slush.  Also, Boom Lake (Wisconsin River) does end up with roads being plowed across them.  The club can’t keep up on marking all of them, so beware when running the river sections.

As always, please stay on the marked trails.  It may sound like a broken record, but it is sooooo important for the life of our trail system that all riders respect the rights of our landowners (over 150 just on Hodag Sno-Trails system).

Stay safe, and ride like the wind.    Bundle up, it will be a cold week.

Trail Report – : Walworth County, Wisconsin – February 8, 2021

Reporter:Ryan Strand

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 12-18″

Date of Report: February 8, 2021

Area Report:

It was a busy weekend of snowmobiling around our area.  Trails were heavily traveled over the weekend and everything held up with the cold temperatures that we have in place.  Groomers were out all weekend in full force trying to keep up.  Overall trails are in good condition, some thin areas in woods and near road crossings as well as some drifting/ high traffic bumps.   Looking at the next 10 day forecast we should be good to go for the foreseeable future.  Temperature is supposed to warm to mid teens by end of the week for highs but then another big cool down for next weekend.   Looks like a few chances of light snow to freshen things up here and there nothing huge but should make the road crossings and woods look nicer.   Enjoy!
