Trail Report – : Jefferson County, Wisconsin – February 19, 2021

Reporter:Jefferson County Snowmobile Alliance

Trail Conditions: Excellent

Snow Cover: 12″ plus

Date of Report: February 19, 2021

Area Report:

Good morning fellow snow enthusiasts. Not much new to report, just that the trail conditions we currently have is the best we have seen in years. I recently returned from the north woods and i must say we have better trails than they have. I was out yesterday grooming and there is one thing i must mention. The cutting corners and going outside of the trail markers MUST STOP. The Fort Atkinson club to our south lost a trail to a very nice stop because of  this very same issue. There are so many reasons for not doing this, but this is the biggest, so PLEASE, STAY ON THE TRAIL, IF WE LOOSE IT, ITS YOUR FAULT. RR

GTS Trails app shows groomers out in the last 24 hours

Trail Groomers were out again last night.  ALL trails were groomed except  Trail 70W which connects to St. Germain trails; Trail 17S which connects to Sugar Camp; Trail 7 aka Paintball field which is a spur off of Trail 17S; 17N & 1 from Hwy 45N crossing to the Eagle Lake boat launch.

Best way to learn the trails is to buy a Sno-Eagles trail map. It also had the entire Vilas county trails on the backside.  Plus download the GTS trails app  It is available at the App Store.

Not a lot to report except there is a lot of traffic on the trails.  Many large groups out riding.  So as you riding be sure to Ride Right – Stay Right. With the high volume of traffic there are trails with low level snirt. Ice base with SNOW on top. A good ride is taking 10E heading east all the way to the Three Lakes Trails connect.  Continuing to what we call the Kimball Creek Trail.  It takes you to east to Three Lakes & west to Alvin/Nelma area & Phelps.  Plenty of woods riding. Riding more today & will have a full report tomorrow.

A schiff of SNOW overnight.  Just enough to cover the vehicles & deck.  Next SNOW Sunday with weather guys giving a 60% chance.  START DANCIN’

Please stay on the trails to keep them trails open.  Lots of off trail riding is causing a lot of problems.  Trails will close if riders keep this up.  Done preaching.

Catfish & Eagle Lake trails are marked with orange reflective barrels.  Please stay by the barrels to be safe. Both are still bumpy so might want to slow down. The lakes are marked by the businesses on the lake so stop in & thank them when you’re out riding.

Trail Report – : Sayner, Wisconsin – February 18, 2021

Reporter:SaynerStar Lake Barnstormers

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: Minimal

Date of Report: February 18, 2021

Area Report:

Thanks to everyone who attended our pizza fundraiser at Hillside Tavern & Grill last weekend.  Whenever you visit them, please tell Achille that you appreciate her support of the Sayner Star Lake Barnstormers.

We finally got out of the deep freeze with temperatures, which is making for more enjoyable riding weather.

Even after the very busy Presidents weekend, our trail system has held up extremely well.  The lack of new snow is evident, but we’re still in pretty good shape.  I would rate the Barnstormer system as follows:  70% very good, 20% good, and 10% fair.  Without new snow, the amount of snirt increases daily.  We can still make the snirt flat, but with no moisture left, it has the consistency of sugar and just won’t stay in place.

With the exception of possibly an inch over the next day or so, there is no significant snowfall in the forecast.  By mid next week, the temps are potentially going to hit 40.  Hopefully, that won’t last long, and hopefully, it will bring in some new WET snow.  We’ll have to just wait and see.  Riding should be really good this weekend prior to the warmup!

  • Logging operations are continuing throughout the northwoods and in many areas where snowmobile trails are located.  Loggers have first priority!  PLEASE be respectful of them and make every attempt to stay out of their way.  DO NOT engage with them.  Loggers have a legal right to close any snowmobile trail where they are working.  They are being cooperative with the clubs and working with us the best they can.  PLEASE do not give them reason to close the trails.
  • Hintz’s North Star Lodge is currently closed.  Therefore, we have closed the trail leading to their establishment.  If and when they are open for business, we will reopen that trail.  Please respect them by not riding across their property.

Thank you for your patience and support.  Ride Right and Stay Safe!

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 10 – 16

Date of Report: February 18, 2021

Area Report:

Trails are In good condition throughout our system. The trail top is getting a bit of sugar snow on top but has a great base below. We have been grooming 7 nights a week but not always hitting every trail . We as a snowmobile community have got to stop the off trail riding. Trails are a privilege and not a right and if we don’t respect them and the landowner they cross we are going to start losing Trails. Thank you your trail boss Chad

Cash raffle tickets still available at local establishments.

Poker run is also running right now but coming to a end soon so go get your stamps and grab a couple groom to ride tickets and try your chance a new snowmobile or atv .

Trails are pretty much in the same condition due to the cold temps at night.  Did not see any deterioration with the sun out for longer periods as it was yesterday. The sun will cause icy areas to pop up.  It is cold enough at night to keep trails in good shape.  Not a lot to report except there is a lot of traffic on the trails.  Many large groups out riding.  So as you riding be sure to Ride Right – Stay Right.  There is a chance of light SNOW off & on this week.  The best chance is Sunday with a 40% chance.  No firm totals at this point.

Trail Report – : Three Lakes – Brule River, Wisconsin – February 18, 2021

Reporter:Threelakeswi

Trail Conditions: Excellent

Snow Cover: 8-11”

Date of Report: February 18, 2021

Area Report:

The trail system is being groomed on a regular schedule now and they are in excellent condition. Everything is hard and flat. A few icy corners, and not much loose snow to keep sleds cool, so you may need some ice scratchers. Our system is 100% open. Please use caution as you may encounter a groomer during the day during this cold snap.
The lakes are all marked, however you might start to see some slush. Remember, the throttle is your friend when you hit slush. Stay close to the barrels for the safest ice.

Please follow us on Facebook for the most up to date information.

Trail Report – : Bayfield County, Wisconsin – February 17, 2021

Reporter:BayfieldCounty

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 4-12 inches

Date of Report: February 17, 2021

Area Report:

Snow base (in inches):  4-12 inches

Status (Closed, Open, Partially Open): Open

Condition (Poor, Fair, Good, Excellent): Good

Not a whole lot of change from last week. The cold temps have helped keep trails in good condition. Groomers are out making the trails beautiful for the weekend.

The same trouble spots still remain:

  • The Grand View and Mason areas didn’t receive much snow and sled traffic could damage farm fields. Please use caution.
  • The trail into the City of Bayfield will not open this year, but we’re hopeful for next year.
  • Trail 1 to the casino in Red Cliff is open with a re-route. It’s a bit rough in spots so use caution. The re-route utilizes the right of way along the highway so please respect private landowners and follow the signs and groomed path.

Namakagon Trail Groomers: all trails groomed 2/15. Good condition.

Barnestormers: Thanks to the cold weather our trails have held up well. I would rate them at very good however the sharp corners and hills are getting thin. They are still logging on trail 31 south of 43 road and have a couple of miles plowed. Use caution when riding in this area.

Drummond SnoJacks: Trail are holding up well with a good base and will be in very good condition this week with all trails groomed before the weekend.

Iron River Area: Tony in Iron River reports all trains groomed and in great condition.  Cold weather keeps trails in great condition Brrrr.

Washburn Valhallers:  Washburn and Valhalla area trails remain in great condition.  Trail #13 between Ashland and Washburn has improved and will be re-groomed today.  We are grooming all week and with the warmer temps, we expect it to be a busy weekend.

WAINO: Waino Riders will be grooming today (2/17) or tomorrow (2/18).
