EAGLE RIVER TRAILS
Expect ALL Conditions
Icy – Snow cover – Bit more SNOW today

March 14, 2022 – 8:07am – 18 degrees – High 37 – Low 16

More SNOW in the forecast this morning.  1-2 inches of more wet packy SNOW.  Will extend riding for a little long.  Starting tomorrow temps will jump way up during the day into the 40’s.  The icy event last week & cold temps at night created a really hard ice/snow base.  So at present it’s holding.  With the warm temps coming that won’t last for ever.  If you are going to ride do it now.

All conditions out there & boy it’s icy everywhere so please slow down.  More SNOW than expected on the trails to offer lubrication was a surprise.  Best riding is east & north.  Expect all conditions.  Trails on north side of trails are not very good & thin. Open areas really icy or snirty.  Better than I thought it would be out where I live east of Eagle.  Getting closer to town it goes down hill.  Later when coming back home on the south side of Hwy 70E trail closer I got to home the better it got.  North out of town section that under the trees was washboardy but snow covered.  Riding today too.  Another report tomorrow.

Groomer Tracking (GTS) shows no grooming over night.  Sno-Eagles have stopped grooming as even with this snow trails are hard ice underneath.  Groomers need more loose snow to make a difference.  With that said the trails over all are staying smooth due to cold overnight temps.

Biggest complaint I have been hearing all season is about off trail riding. Folks the Clubs of Vilas County work very hard to secure easements from private landowners & folks we are losing many due to off trail riding. There is NO LEGAL OFF TRAIL RIDING ANYWHERE IN VILAS COUNTY. So PLEASE NO OFF TRAIL RIDING.

Catfish & Eagle lake trails marked & OPEN. Stay by the orange reflective barrels.  DO NOT think the entire lake is safe.  Several sleds have gone in the water this season far from the barrels.

Get out & ride might be near the end. See the Fat Lady.  Not singing but getting ready.

See ya on the Trails one last time today & maybe tomorrow!

Trail Conditions: Open

Snow Cover: 8-12″

Date of Report: March 13, 2022

Area Report:

I’m marking trail conditions as Open, but the trails are in very good shape as of this afternoon. We received about 2″ of fresh snow overnight which helped on any trail that was bare or road trails. We will be suspending trail grooming Sunday night. With the predicted warmer temperatures coming this week, I don’t know if grooming will resume.

On Wednesday, the Vilas County Snowmobile Alliance has a meeting and I’m guessing one of the topics will be on weather or not to close the trails. I will post that information when it is announced.

Trail 3 still has the gravel section where it is coming up through the snow. The patch is roughly 250 ft long . Please ride safe ride right and for the conditions.

News and Reports:

March 17th – Corned Beef & Cabbage Benefit at Club 45. Serving from 4:30pm to 9:00pm Cost $15

Snowmobile Information:

Please stay on trails. We are starting to have some off trail riding on private property and on the xc-ski trail. This has been the worst season we have had with off trail riding. More than one landowner has threatened to pull trail access. We ask you respect the land owners and the other clubs trails.

Also noticed several corners where sleds have lost control in an icy corner and have left the trail. Please ride right, stay right!

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 20″

Date of Report: March 13, 2022

Area Report:

For this late in the season the trails are not too bad. They do however have icy corners and sections. There are a few bare spots appearing and growing but they are for the most part flat and have a good quality ride to them yet. It’ll be interesting to see what happens this week with more snow coming in but then warm temperatures after that. Be safe and have fun.

EAGLE RIVER TRAILS

Icy – With new snow cover

March 13, 2022 – 7:06am – 15 degrees – High 34 – Low 14

2 inches of wet packy SNOW overnight.  Warm up to 34 by mid to late afternoon.  Couple more inches of SNOW moving in early morning on Monday. SNOWING until about lunchtime.  Followed by temps in mid 30’s by late afternoon.  By Tuesday the temps will be in the 40’s for the rest of the week.  So if you plan to ride do it today & tomorrow.

Great to get some wet packy SNOW on top of the really icy & hard base.  SNOW should hold as it will be overcast most of the day.  Overnight low 20’s into the teens. It’s late season riding so expect all conditions with the conditions changing quickly.  Plus trails will be fast (icy) everywhere.

Groomer Tracking (GTS) shows no grooming over night.  Sno-Eagles have stopped grooming as even with this snow, trails are hard ice underneath.  Groomers need more loose snow to make a difference.  With that said the trails over all are staying smooth due to cold overnight temps.

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 8-12″

Date of Report: March 12, 2022

Area Report:

I came in at 3am from grooming the east side of our trails. They all panned out nice except one section. The entire Sno-Buddies system was groomed Friday night into early Saturday morning. Only trails skipped was spur from Trail 3 to Chicago Ave and Dublin’s spur – that all was done Wednesday night. We still had enough snow to fill in moguls.

Only section I had trouble filling in with snow was Trail 3 east of US-45 where it winds around thru some corners. There isn’t much snow over there to pull into corners. Other than that, all the trails covered nicely. There will be ice under the snow, so slow down in corners. Suppose to stay cold this weekend, hopefully no sun. The March sun has been strong.

Trail 3 still has the gravel section where it is coming up through the snow. The patch is roughly 250 ft long . Please ride safe ride right and for the conditions.

March 12, 2022 – 7:52am – 7 below – High 16 – Low 9

March weather continues.  SNOW moving in around lunchtime. 1-2 inches.  Then a warm up for the next week.  Looks like Winter might be coming to an end.  Will be reporting ’til the end.

Trails are really icy & crusty.  Better out of town & under cover.  East of town the one way heading east is still pretty good & SNOW covered.  It’s on the south side of the road.  Less breakdown from the sun. North after getting through town & out of town under cover is pretty good too.  Adventure sledding time.

Groomer Tracking (GTS) shows no grooming over night.  Sno-Eagles have stopped grooming as the snow is frozen & crusty.  Groomers need loose snow to make a difference.  With that said the trails over all are staying smooth due to cold overnight temps.

Trail Report – : Phelps, Wisconsin – March 12, 2022

Reporter:Phelps Snowmobile Club

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 12″-18″

Date of Report: March 12, 2022

Area Report:

The trails in Phelps are in good condition.  Not much if any new snow for quite some time.  Last grooming was done on Wednesday night as the cold front was coming through.  That made for a nice level, firm trail base.  traffic has been down and trails are great.  Not sure how long we can say that.  Now is the perfect time to get that final ride/trip in.  We will be grooming as weather allows.  Please check back for updates as the trail conditions allow.  Thank you to all that made your way through the Phelps trail system.  We hope you enjoyed yourselves and that you plan on coming back.  If out riding, please be carefull.  Trails are packed and fast but the corners are very icy.  Please slow up for the corners.  You never know who is coming from the other direction.  Stay on the trails and keep our landowners happy.  Without them, there wouldn’t be trails to ride on.

Snowmobile Information:

March 31 is the latest that trails can be open in Wisconsin.  Please check before you ride to make sure the trails are open.  Weather and trail conditions will determend when the trails will close.

Boulder Junction Snowmobile Club Trail Report – Friday, 3/11/22:

It’s 12 degrees out with clearing skies this morning.
Last night we groomed 15N, 6E, and 8W.
Our trails are still in good shape, but checking with snowmobilers and other clubs, there are some poor trails in adjoining areas. The Cross Country Cruisers out of Arbor Vitae have suspended grooming and report rough conditions and the grade out of Minocqua towards Lac Du Flambeau has minimal snow coverage.
With warm temps arriving on Sunday and mid to high forties all of next week, we will probably quit grooming this weekend.
Get out and enjoy our trails while you can!
