Snow Cover: Need Snow
Date of Report: February 23, 2017
Area Report:
Its hard to know what to say at this minute, accept to tell you currently the trails are less than poor. Most of you probably know there is a winter storm approaching the area. I am calling it “Winter Storm Crap-Shoot” because forecasts are all over the place. Some say freezing rain mixed with snow. Some are calling for 8 inches or more. From what all of them are saying, it sounds like, by Saturday morning, we should have at least 5 or 6 inches on the ground. But – this is going by the forecasts, so if that is way off, please don’t shoot the messenger.
All I can really tell you right now is what we have currently before this “storm”. Exposed areas are melted down to nothing or very little. There is this mythical “great riding in the woods still”. Does it exist? Once again it depends on your idea of “great riding” and unless you get helicoptered in, how do you get there. Yes – almost everywhere the trails are shaded there is still snow. The good part is that those areas will not take much new snow to make that area “great” again. But the areas that are gone, will take way more to make them decent. So suffice to say, whatever we get starting tonight and into Saturday – it will be a wide ranging mixed bag of conditions. The snow will probably be very wet so steering at times might be difficult.
Be VERY careful on the lakes. Just like at the beginning of the year – if you don’t see markers – stay off.
We still have the areas where there is logging taking place. Those areas right now are junk. IF you so right through a logging area, stay out of the way and DO NOT hassle the loggers. They can and probably will shut the trail down of they get hassled. They have that option.
Please continue to watch for logging ahead signs, heed their warning and obey the posted speed limits.
PLEASE! Lets be careful out there!!!
