Date of Report: December 12, 2016

Trail Report: Conover, Wisconsin – December 12, 2016

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover: 7-8 inches

Date of Report: December 12, 2016

Area Report:

After review, it was decided this morning that trails will open Noon Thursday Dec 12th. Expect early season riding conditions. Lakes will not yet be safe. Wait until the lake trails are marked before heading out on the ice.

We received maybe 4 inches of snow Sunday, with at least 1/2 of that after dark and after it had been forecast to have ended, go figure. 7-8 inches is typical in undisturbed areas of my yard. The snow is quite fluffy, so not the best for building a base but it’s snow.

Below zero lows & single digit highs for the next few days, we will be making ice.

Trail Report: Spooner and Washburn County, Wisconsin – December 12, 2016

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover: 2 to 4 inches

Date of Report: December 12, 2016

Snowmobile Information:

All Washburn County Snowmobile Trails are closed at this time. Lower temperatures have arrived and we are hopeful that the lakes and swamps will freeze soon. Once everything has frozen up and we receive more snow, we will be getting out to groom the trails. Check back for updates!

Trail Report: Sayner, Wisconsin – December 12, 2016

Area Report:

Vilas County State Funded trails officially open at noon – this Thursday – 12/15/2016. Lakes will not even be close to safe. STAY OFF!!! Please don’t go by the ice fishermen on the bay of Big Arbor Vitae. Those guys would be out there if there was a floating piece of paper to stand on!!!

Until we get significant snowfall – trails will be in early season condition. It will be hit & miss. There will be ruts and holes that need more snow to be able to fill them. Some areas will be decent. Caution is always advised.

Slow down and ride another day!!!

Trail Report: Sayner, Wisconsin – December 11, 2016

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover: 4 inches avg

Date of Report: December 11, 2016

Area Report:

Please stay tuned for our trails to officially open. At this point they will NOT open tomorrow (12-12-2016). Please remember: when a target date is announced in advance of our trail opening, it is always followed with “conditions permitting”. Currently what we have on the ground, if it were to be panned, would not leave a decent trail. It would end up hit & miss and actually – mostly miss – with a lot of rough sections which would be dangerous to ride. The northern part of the county does have more snow than the southern part.

At least speaking for the southern part of this county, it is just as well that we don’t have a lot of snow on the ground. It was a wet fall and we need the forecasted sub-zero cold for the following week to freeze up wet areas of our trail beds. Too much early snow prevents the trail beds from freezing.

As I already mentioned in a different post: Most area lakes have frozen over. However, it will be sometime before any are marked with a crossing. Until the crossing is marked – NEVER EVER cross or go out onto the ice!!!

Stay tuned for an announcement of when our trails will OFFICIALLY open! Another target date will be announced soon!

Trail Report: Eagle River, Wisconsin – December 11, 2016

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover: 4 inches on average

Date of Report: December 11, 2016

Area Report:

Vilas County Snowmobile Trails Are Currently Closed
11 CLUBS OF VILAS COUNTY WILL DECIDE TOMORROW ON THEIR INDIVIDUAL CLUBS OPENING DATE.

Snow today in Eagle River!  3-4 inches of SNOW in the forecast! Today & tomorrow highs near or just above 20.  Then we head into the deep freeze.  Single digits during the day & below zero at night.  This just what is needed to keep freezing up the trails.

Right now the Trail Boss has enlisted snowmobiles to run back & forth over wet areas to move the freeze up along by compressing the snow & slush.  Reports this is working.

Should have a target date for Sno-Eagles, Inc. trail opening sometime tomorrow.

Keep THINKING COLD and yes Do the Snow Dance!

Trail Report: Conover, Wisconsin – December 10, 2016

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover: 4″

Date of Report: December 10, 2016

Area Report:

Trails are closed until at least December 12th in Vilas County. Trail inspections have been taking place the past several days and a decision to open or not will be made Monday. Most area lakes are now ice covered but far from safe.

News and Reports:

I had posted some trail updates in my last report but they were lost in the Snowtracks format change. Here they are again:

Trail  numbers near town have been changed to more accurately follow traffic flows thru the area. The 2016-2017 map shows the new numbering. If you have doubt, follow the signs.

There was a miserable “S” curve & hill at the west end of our WI River bridge along Hwy K. It was bad on a sled & worse in a groomer. That curve is now gone & hopefully the straight hill will be less icy.

The intersection just East of the town park area to head South to Eagle River has been moved about 1/4 mile closer (west) to town. Coming from the East you will see closed gates where you used to turn, don’t panic. Signs have been moved too.

The trail to Twin Haven & the lake was rerouted to align with the next phase of the Conover/Phelps bike trail. New map & signs show the change.
