Trail Report: Crivitz, Wisconsin – December 28, 2016

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 3 to 6 inches

Date of Report: December 28, 2016

Area Report:

Well, there are three things that damage snowmobile trails, wind, temperature and sun.  Mother Nature gave us all of them.  After the melt down, our groomers went out to see what they could do.  The result is a lot of bare areas.  Although the trail is basically flat now, we do need some snow.  Some areas are rideable, but then again, you get around the corner and it is not good at all.  Our northern groomer said once you get north of Brandy Wine Lane its better, but you will still run into the occasional bare spots.

This has been a very busy summer and fall, working on permits to improve our trail system.  The Twin Bridge Park area has some huge changes thanks to the Marinette County Parks Department and Wisconsin DNR.  We have been able to take care of a culvert extension along Parkway Road north of County X.  We also, just finished the largest problem area in the park.  The swamp hole coming off the bridge has been rerouted slightly for a much safer trail.  We put in a culvert there allowing our groomers to get through, even early in the season!  Also, north of Twin Bridge Campground, were we had a wetland issue,  thanks to the new landowner, we were able to reroute with few problems to improve that area.  Landowners are such a big part of our trail system.  When you see them, thank them, wave and give them thumbs up!  Remember, use of their property is a privilege, not a right!

The Oconto county area of the trail has had our loyal excavator very busy.  He has bulldozed from Holtz Ranch Road north and over to LaFave Road, then…from Chickadee Road west to Boat Landing 11 Road.  He was even out there on a Sunday, trying to stay ahead of the cold weather.  THANK YOU VERY MUCH…

In addition to the new John Deere tractor that we purchased last year, we have now purchased another New Holland tractor for even better trail grooming.

If you do try to ride…please be careful.  There is a swamp hole north of Bucks Ranch Road on the pipeline.  Snowmobiles can make it through.  There is caution tape there, please be aware.  OUR WATERWAYS ARE NOT SAFE.  We need snow and colder temps.

Trail Report: Conover, Wisconsin – December 27, 2016

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 7″-8″ in the woods

Date of Report: December 27, 2016

Area Report:

Temps fell below freezing by yesterday afternoon & stayed below all day today. The groomers were out last night & really had things smooth & firmed up this morning. We had a dusting to maybe 1/4″ new snow today.

I took a quick 77 mile loop to BJ via 8W, 15N, 6E & 13S. Traffic was light near Conover & significantly higher to the west. Conover trails 8 & 13 were actually good but I am keeping my report conservatively at FAIR because I only rode corridor trails & not every trail got groomed last night.

Twin Haven via the new trail; Trail is nice except for the last 3/4 mile where it turns off the grade. This section must be ridden slowly. For those running along the power lines N from North Twin boat ramp, you now have a stop sign at the grade, E/W traffic has the right of way.

As far as I know the lakes are not marked yet, stay off until they are marked.

News and Reports:

Don’t forget you need a WI trail permit to ride the state’s groomed trail system. Aggressive riding causes more trail damage than slower, less aggressive riding. Until the base gets built up & we get more snow to work with, groomers can only do so much to repair damage.

He colder temps are suppose to stay through the week which is very good. We are expecting 1-3 of snow for Thursday and 1-2 Friday and Saturday. If we do get the snow then we will be out grooming. Posted by Club President – Barry Hopkins –
Just took a quick ride. The snow has settled a bit but are holding up just fine. In fact the freezing rain/snow we had last night is going to set up tonight into a great trail base as temperatures continue to drop. It has been windy so use caution, slow it down a bit and be on the look out for branches on the trail.

We don’t have any trails on the lakes, but I am urging you to stay off of the lakes: Warm weather & the weight of the snow has formed a lot of slush on top of what little ice we have.

We hope Santa was good to you! Have fun and remember to signal oncoming snowmobilers as to how many are behind you.
