Trail Report: Land O’ Lakes, Wisconsin – December 25, 2016

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 8-10 inches

Date of Report: December 25, 2016

Area Report:

Trails are very rideable–there is some dirt in the corners but most are in good shape. The warm up and rain looks like it is going to miss us for the most part. A little freezing rain would actually be good for the trails. I have ridden all 4 local clubs trails in the last 2 days and was pleased with conditions. Not going to be perfect but not too bad either. No reason to stay home.

News and Reports:

Merry Christmas!

Hope to see many of you in Land O Lakes this week.

Trail Report: Sayner, Wisconsin – December 24, 2016

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 3 inches avg on the trail

Date of Report: December 24, 2016

Area Report:

Merry Christmas from the Sayner / Star Lake Barnstormers!!!

The area received from 1 1/2 to 3 inches of fresh white gold yesterday. While we still need more to completely fill all the holes and ruts – what came down will certainly help. Conditions right now will vary anywhere from good to poor. You should be ready for anything.

A couple area lakes have been marked. Many have NOT been marked. DO NOT cross any lake unless you can see the crossing has been marked.

We still have logging going on in a few areas of our system. The operations can start or stop without notification. Even when the processors move out – trucks will still be hailing out loads of logs. Watch for logging ahead signs, logging trucks, and logging equipment. PLEASE DO NOT hassle the loggers. If they get hassled – they have the right to shut that section of trail down. PLEASE BE PATIENT and stay out of their way. Watch for signals from the loggers and follow them. They might tell you to please wait or to go around.

Please ride safe and stay on the trails! Slow Down and Ride Another Day!!!

Trail Report: Lake Gogebic, Michigan – December 24, 2016

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: Getting Better All the Time

Date of Report: December 24, 2016

Area Report:

Present reports have indicated that conditions are rideable, however there are still some wet areas out there.    We posted a ride on our FB page of Trail 1 that was shared by Casey at the Lake Gogebic Motel so check that out.  We’ve got a bit of a warmup forcasted for Monday,  but after that our temps should get back to mid teens and hopefully conditions will continue to improve after that.  We did have some additional snow yesterday which helped out.   There is snow in the forecast for Christmas Day and John Dee is predicting between 12-24” between Dec 27 and Jan 1.    Our access trail from the Lodge to the main trails has been groomed and groomers have been out on the trails with drags and grooming will continue as permissible.   We have to get through the beginning of the week and then hopefully cold and snow will make for a great New Years week here on Lake Gogebic.   We are going to head out tonight and hopefully on Christmas Day and we will let you know what we encounter.

Jim has been working really hard and today he will be putting the finishing touches on new bathroom remodels in the Walleye and Northern.   I will share photos later and that makes a total of 7 new tiled showers at the Walleye Lodge!!!       This lodge business is not for the faint of heart and probably more than we bargained for – but we’ve come a long way.   We are blessed to have great guests and are grateful to all the support and love that you’ve shown to us.    We work hard to create a nice experience and take enjoyment in helping to make your trip to the UP a very memorable one.

From our family to yours – we wish you a very Merry Christmas and send our fondest thoughts for a Healthy, Happy and Prosperous New Year!!!

Jim, Mary Beth & Anthony Eismueller

Trail Report: Conover, Wisconsin – December 23, 2016

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 8″ – 9″ in the woods

Date of Report: December 23, 2016

Area Report:

We received about 1+″ of wet snow this afternoon & evening. Both groomers are out tonight. Trails today are still conservatively rated fair with some good areas mixed in. Sunday/Monday forecast looks questionable. Let’s hope we stay on the cold side of the question. The incorrect sign at intersection #718 (45 & 8E/8W has been corrected.

Twin Haven via the new trail; Trail is nice except for the last 3/4 mile where it turns off the grade. This section must be ridden slowly. For those running along the power lines N from North Twin boat ramp, you now have a stop sign at the grade, E/W traffic has the right of way.

Lakes are not marked yet, stay off until they are marked.

Expect most all businesses to close early Saturday night & be closed Sunday. If you are out riding during that timeframe be sure you have enough fuel & carry snacks/ water.

News and Reports:

Don’t forget you need a WI trail permit to ride the state’s groomed trail system. Aggressive riding causes more trail damage than slower, less aggressive riding. Until the base gets built up & we get more snow to work with, groomers can only do so much to repair damage.

Trail Report: Boulder Junction, Wisconsin – December 23, 2016

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 5-7

Date of Report: December 23, 2016

Area Report:

The trails continue to be in fair condition, and the forecast for today is for a couple of inches of fresh snow. The down side is that they are predicting 40s for Sunday and Monday with rain and sleet, lets hope they’re wrong. We won’t be doing any grooming until Monday , if we get snow, as we have family obligations too. Have a nice Christmas, and hope for snow. My report on Monday may be later in the day , as we will be traveling in the morning. Lou Milewski, Trail Boss, Boulder junction Snowmobile Club
