Trail Report – : Land O’ Lakes, Wisconsin – February 26, 2018

Joe and I rode from Sunrise Lodge To Brew’s Pub for dinner and ran into Sandy from the Gateway and Dawn from the Pine Cone Cafe–relaxing after another hectic weekend. Trails were in good to excellent shape after day 1 of the warm up. We then headed west past Black Oak and into Conover trails—everything was excellent. Came home from the east and the Phelps and Frosty trails had been freshly groomed and were awesome. Did some off trail stuff til I got buried, but with lots of help from Joe we dug out and got home safe and sound! 2 more days of warm conditions—if we keep the sun away no worries. The groomers may have some work to do but I am confident we will have another good weekend of riding in Land O Lakes!

Area Report:

Sawyer County snow trails are OPEN and in EXCELLENT condition. We received well over 12 inches of snow in the past few days, and have a 6 to 12 inch base. Groomers have been out.

Trail 27/5 from Tuscobia to Rusk County line is still closed, as well as Trail 63N from Boedecker Rd to the Bayfield County line.

Lake trails are reported as in GOOD condition, please stay on the marked trails.

Trail Report – : Price County – Park Falls, Phillips & Prentice, Wisconsin – February 26, 2018

Area Report:

We received a total of 10 inches of fresh heavy, wet snow over the last few days. All snowmobile trails are being groomed on a regular basis and they are in very good to excellent condition after they are groomed. Road routes may become bare quickly due to warm temps predicted for this week. To view detailed trail condition reports, go to www.pricecountywi.net and click on the Reports link.

Some Price County trails are on private land. The use of the private land is a PRIVILEGE, not a right. Please stay on marked trails, especially across fields. There have been many complaints from landowners due to snowmobilers not staying on the trail and riding all over their fields. To avoid having these TRAILS CLOSED, PLEASE respect the private land that is open to snowmobiling.

Several miles of trail are open for winter ATV and UTV riding including the Flambeau Trail System, Solberg Trail, and Georgetown Trail. The Price County portion of the Pine Line Rail Trail (Prentice to Ogema), Snowmobile Trail 189 (Ogema to Timm’s Hill), and Snowmobile Trails 116, 181 and 118 (Prentice area loop) are also open to winter ATV and UTV riding when the trail is officially open to snowmobile use and the temperature is 28 degrees or colder.

Temps for the next few days will be near 40 with lows in the 20’s. We received 9-11″ of new snow this past weekend which will help the trail system. With our temp near 40 grooming will take place at night. Expect some rougher trails later in the day with traffic and grooming only at night. Use caution on corners they may be icy. Make sure you ride on your side of the trail, we want everyone to be safe.

PLEASE STAY ON TRAILS. WE HAVE BEEN GETTING COMPLAINTS THAT SOME HAVE NOT BEEN STAYING ON TRAILS, RIDING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN LOSE EASEMENT FOR OUR TRAIL SYSTEM SO PLEASE STAY ON TRAILS!!!!!!

THE GOGEBIC RANGE TRAIL AUTHORITY REPORTS:

Trail 2 from Hurley to Ramsay US-2 Crossing is very good. Watch for Icy corners as you head east out of Ironwood! As you depart Ironwood past Walmart heading east the horseshoe-turns around the Transfer Station are getting icy, please ride right & ride cautiously
The rail-bed trail ENDS on the east side of the Keystone Bridge. The club grooms the bridge to maintain it for local access. The “old” trail to Wakefield is closed east of Verona Road. Tickets will be issued if you ride on this closed trail.

Trail 2 from Ramsay Crossing to Wakefield is good. The trail has improved dramatically this week with all the fresh snow, but the corners are icy and by midday we expect the traffic to have swept the corners. There have been several near-miss accidents due to riders not riding on their side of the trail or blowing through icy corners. We need everyone to ride safely through there at a reasonable speed to keep everyone safe. The hill climbs to Indianhead Big Snow Resorts are snow packed and smooth.

Trail 2 from Wakefield to Marenisco is very good. There is active construction 5 miles east of Wakefield use caution. Watch for icy corners from Wakefield to US HWY. 2 trail crossing.

Trail 8 from Bingo’s to Tula Crossing is very good. The trail has lots of snow on it and is a wide seasonal county road that is not plowed and makes for a fun trail ride.

Trail 160 from Walmart to Montreal River(WI) is very good. This is a very scenic trail with spectacular views. ENJOY!! There is logging near the Lake Road area, please slow down, remember logging trucks have the right of way.

Trail 11S is good to very good. The first 2 miles of the trail as it heads south towards Wisconsin from Trail 2 is plowed due to logging. Please yield to all commercial truck traffic. The trail is in great shape and is groomed from the Vilas County Wisconsin Line to Trail 2 completely, regularly. There are still a few thin areas and areas that need more brushing but the trail is fantastic.

LAKE GOGEBIC AREA GROOMER REPORT

Trail Conditions from the 23rd.
Received about 4” of snow Sunday and about 1-2” overnight on the North Shore of Lake Gogebic. Light to moderate snows are forecasted for the remainder of the week and the forecast is calling for below average temperatures.
Gogebic Area Groomers have reported that they are out on our trails daily and that everything is in good to very good condition.

U.P. THUNDER RIDERS OF WATERSMEET GROOMERS REPORT:

Groomers are running daily

Trail 2 east of Watersmeet – to the 107 – good
Trail 3 south of Watersmeet to WI – good -this trail gets tons of traffic and it gets rough between groomings, use caution over the bridges
Trail 3 north of trail 2 to bond falls – good with icy corners
Trail 3 north of Bond falls – good with icy corners
Trail 2 west of Watersmeet – good
Trail 13 south of trail 2 – good with icy corners

PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS. RIDING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN RESULT IN THE CLUB LOSING EASEMENT OF THAT TRAIL AND YOU POSSIBLE GETTING A TICKET…..

All of the Washburn County snowmobile trails are OPEN! Trails are in excellent condition with a 7 to 13 inch base. Saturday evening brought a fresh 6+ inches of powder. The new snow has been great addition to the already good base and even with the warmer temperatures we are expecting to keep a good base. Please be aware that the base might be a little slim at road crossings as we had a snowy dirt mixture before the new snow. Always use caution on the trails as volunteers are out grooming the trails to keep up with all the new snow we’ve received, please note that some of the trails may not be groomed yet due to the timing of the snow fall. Enjoy the trails!

Trail report for February 26, 2018, Good condition. With all the snow we received over the weekend the trails were filled with powder snow. The trails were very good after we groomed but with all the traffic the trails degraded very quickly. We were out last night and groomed our entire trail system so this morning the trails will be super! If you wait until the end of the day before the groomers go out the trails can get humps and bumps. We have a warm front coming in and temps can be in the 40’s all week long. This is not good, and we will have to see how much the warm weather will damage our trails. There is a storm system expected on Thursday and we will have to see if it is rain or snow. Please stay on marked trails. Remember to be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride.

WOW! What a weekend! Between the ice base that was on the trail and the little bit of snow and sleet that we received, everyone agreed that the trails were much better than expected. Friends and I rode almost 300 miles over the weekend…mostly in the Iron Snowshoe area. Then to top it off, another 2+ inches of snow came early Sunday, which made the riding even better!

The groomers were out yesterday, last night and early this morning. They report back that the trails are in the best condition they have been in all season.

Ride with caution…some icy corners…some water showing up here and there.

The bunny in the woods was found this weekend. However, there are still other bunnies to be found along the trail. If fact, I’m going to go put some more out today. Good luck.
