The trails have a 4″ to 6″ base and are in good to excellent condition.
We cannot stress enough to RIDE SAFELY and RESPONSIBLY. Trail conditions will vary greatly throughout the County. Always use caution when riding on lakes and frozen water as ice conditions will vary.
The clubs that maintain the Forest County Trail System are made up of volunteers who work very hard to provide the best trails possible. Please respect them while on the trail. When approaching a groomer or member doing trail maintenance, please slow down and move over so they can do their job.
5 inches of new snow has upgraded our trail system to good and very good in the woods, still have icy corners so slow down, no warm up in the near future so this weekend will be great for riding
And the momentum continues! Our trails were good going into the weekend and then we received approximately 3.5-5″ of fresh snow on Saturday that freshened them up making it a great riding weekend! Reports from around the county are that the TRAILS are GREAT to EXCELLENT! We have about a 4-8″ base on most of the trails. There was a lot of traffic this weekend on the trails so groomers are out cutting and smoothing the trails today and in the next following days. The forecast remains for the highs in the teens and lows into the negatives for the week so the trails will continue to stay hard and flat! Lakes are also in great condition and Lake Hayward trail is back open to riders.
Trail 5/27 from Tuscobia to the Rusk County line and trail 63 north from Bodecker Road to Bayfield County continues to be closed.
Surrounding counties also report to be in GOOD condition!
Thank you again to all club members and volunteers and all groomers for your dedication and hard work in to the wee hours!
Brrr, it’s cold!! And we have some nice fresh snow. Not quite as many riders in town this week. Not much new to report. All trails from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor are open and being groomed round the clock. Looks like temps will stay in the high single digits to low teens, with the nights being cold. Also a few inches of snow for the next few days too. The snow will keep the trails up. The weekend will be busy in town, with the MTU Winter Carnival starting Wednesday.
Respect private property and others on the trail, slow down, speed kills, stay off all ice, and save the drinking for after the riding.
We are getting closer to being able to open our trails for the first time this year finally! 4-6″ of snow fell throughout the county over the weekend. Heavier totals to the north. 3-4″ is forecasted for today and another 2 rounds later this week. Stay tuned for updates as our conditions continue to change. This morning was nice and cold -10F so things are starting to look good for hopefully a opening this week some time. Check back for updates. In the meantime keep doing whatever snow dance you are doing! It appears to be working. Please stay off trails that are CLOSED as you are trespassing.
All trails are open and they are in excellent to very good condition with ongoing trail grooming. The trails have about 3 – 6 inches of fresh snow as of Saturday. We received 6 to 8 inches of fresh snow over the weekend. Even though there was a lot of traffic, the trail/base held up very well. A few stretches are thin, but very rideable.
Groomers will be out throughout the week. The cold weather will also help hold the trail together.
I expect to see you all up here riding. Trails are great.
Thanks…

Trail report for February 5, 2018, Good condition. Over the weekend we received a few inches of snow and help freshen up our trails. There was a lot of traffic over the weekend. Our Groomers were out and able to lay out a nice flat trail. It is very cold this morning about -12 Below. It is expected to stay in the low teen for the highs and snow is probable towards the end of the week. We still have a very thin base and corners are bare and icy. The active logging areas still have very little snow. With the continued snow and cold will help thicken up our base. Mark your calendars for February 18th. We will have a Snowmobile Club fundraiser breakfast at the Headwaters. It’s a great breakfast so please support us. It’s less than two weeks away! Remember to be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride.
