TRAILS FAIR to GOOD
Fresh SNOW wanted

3 degrees this morning with a high of 28.  Happy to report overcast this morning & does not look like the evil sun will be out until later this afternoon or maybe not at all.  There is a slight chance of SNOW this morning.  Looks to be just a schiff.  Best chance for SNOW is Sunday when the weather guys are calling for 1-3 inches.  Start Dancin’

As for the trails they are FAIR to GOOD. The thick icy base under the SNOW is why the trails are holding.  Still loose SNOW over the icy base but it is fatigued & icy too. Another reason to Do the Snow Dance.  Riding you will notice the back end of your sled slipping around. Might even notice the track slipping.  So slow down to be safe. Corners everywhere are icy. Some covered with SNOW. Others blown out with high berms so slow down so you can stay on your side.  As you ride stay on the right side to be safe.

It is amazing the great job the Groomer Drivers are doing with the trails.  Spoke to lots of them who can’t believe that the trails are still holding. Did not get far out myself so can’t report on far in the woods trails.  Here is what was groomed last night:

  • In Town trails
  • 3S to Three Lakes connect
  • 10E to Bloom Rd
  • 70W/13S to the intersection of 17S
  • 17N to Manske Swamp aka trail 3N
  • Manske Swamp – 3N
  • 10W/13N  including Wisconsin River Bridge to Conover 3 trail

Trail 1N logging operation continues in the section between the Town of Washington Town Hall & Eagle Lake. Right now there are logs in piles along sections of the trail. With the log piles and icy grainy conditions in that section it would be good to slow down. Very icy corners. Minimal grooming due to the logging operation.

Catfish Lake Loop & Eagle Lake Trails are marked with orange easy to see reflective barrels.  Please stay by the barrels to be safe.  Have not ridden out either lake myself in a while. Spoke to several who had & there is no surface slush even with the sun as of yesterday afternoon. Reminder that the Catfish Lake Trail that ran from Braywood to Lumpy’s is not open.  Please do not trespass on private land.

Time to say goodbye to the Ice Castle for 2018.  The Eagle River Area Fire Department will be taking it down today, Tuesday, for safety reasons.  Can’t wait until next season!

Celebrate Snowmobiling Snow Show is set for this Sunday, February 18 at the Derby Track Expo Hall.  From 11am-4pm.  Admission if FREE!

Hello Riders!

It was another great weekend! Groomers have been out  getting trails ready again! There is about a 4-8″ base out there. There are some icy spots around corners but the majority of the trails, wooded ones in particular are reported to be in really VERY GOOD to EXCELLENT shape as are the lakes!

Surrounding counties are reported to be in GOOD condition as well!

Thank you to all groomers, volunteers and club members!

Get out and ride!

Trail Report – : Keweenaw Peninsula / Houghton-Hancock, South Range, Copper Harbor, Michigan – February 12, 2018

Reporter:tpeters

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 34″ to 43″

Date of Report: February 12, 2018

Area Report:

It’s a chilly, sunny day here in the Keweenaw.  All the trails are open from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor.  The groomers are out and the trails are in great shape.  The trails were a busy place this weekend, as always.  This week is letting up a bit, but the whole week and into the weekend is going to stay busy.  The weather will warm up a bit for the next couple of days, but the nights are still going to be cold.  A few inches of snow are predicted here and there, but no big storms.  You better plan your trip up north to ride, before you know it, the season will be over and the grass will be green!

While out on the trails, respect private property and others on the trail, stay off all water, its not safe, slow down, and save the drinking for after the riding!

Happy Trails!

Trail Report – : Sayner, Wisconsin – February 12, 2018

Reporter:SaynerStar Lake Barnstormers

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 24 inches (+/-) in the Woods

Date of Report: February 12, 2018

Area Report:

Our trails remain good on average. Close to town and heavily traveled sections are poor to fair while further in the woods they are good to very good. Most corners are VERY icy. We could REALLY use some new snow to work with.

News and Reports:

There are logging operations in the following locations: Trail 9 between Hwy 70 (TIN 364) and Ross Lake Rd (TIN 225). There is also logging in the Jean Lake Rd area of Trail 7 North, between TINS 227 & 800. The logging, in this area, should be in the woods away from the trail.

(TIN = Trail Intersection Numbers)

Please watch out forlogging areas. Slow down and stay out of the way of the loggers. DO NOT hassle the loggers. They have the right to close down sections of any trail they are logging near or using. If they get hassled too much, that is exactly what they will do – shut that trail down. The logging operations can run at anytime of the day or night. Loggers use some of the trails to drive in and out. So please be watchful in logging areas for trucks on the trail. Logging operations in any of these areas can start and/or stop without warning. So even if you ride in an area and there was nothing going on one day – it can start back up the next day.
