Trail Report – : Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin – March 5, 2018

Reporter:Manitowish Waters Chamber

Trail Conditions: Poor

Snow Cover: 16-22 inches

Date of Report: March 5, 2018

Area Report:

Our trails range from poor to fair to good in some spots. The forecast is for some snow and clouds over the next few  days. We still have a very solid base, an inch or 2 would make for some pretty good riding. This is the time of year things can change pretty quickly so we will do our best to report as conditions change.

News and Reports:

A big thank you to the Manitowish Waters Chamber for mailing maps out for us and their help in reporting trail conditions.  Also a  huge thank you to the groomer operators who volunteer their time to make our trails the best they can be!

Snowmobile Information:

The Manitowish Waters Sno-Skeeters snowmobile club was founded in 1968 and is one of the oldest snowmobile clubs in existence today in Wisconsin. Located in the very northwest corner of Vilas county, Manitowish Waters borders the Lake Superior snow-belt country. With average snowfalls of 150 inches and over 25 miles of professionally groomed trails, the area is one of Vilas County’s top winter vacation areas.Manitowish Waters , Wisconsin - Snowmobiling Conditions & News

The Manitowish Waters trail system is a unique hub network directly linking into 5 other trail systems. With Minocqua/Woodruff to our south, St. Germain/Eagle River to our southeast, Lake Gogebic to our north, Presque Isle/Winchester to our northeast, Mercer and Hurley to our northwest and Lac du Flambeau/Price County to our west, our area residents and guests can choose from a variety of daily or overnight destinations for scenic riding with excellent pit stops along the way.

The Manitowish Waters Sno-Skeeters maintain an active grooming schedule for the area’s trail system. Coordinated efforts with the surrounding communities provide continuous smoothly-groomed trails in this northwest sector. The Sno-Skeeters own and operate some of the newest grooming equipment on the market today. Support the club by attending their special events or contributing to the “trail pigs” at local establishments along the trails. Or show your support by becoming a member!

Enjoy, and please ride responsibly and safely!

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 7-10 inch base

Date of Report: March 5, 2018

Area Report:

All of the Washburn County snowmobile trails are OPEN! Trails are in great condition with a 7 to 10 inch base even after the warm days last week. It is looking like we will be receiving some fresh snow overnight and into Tuesday morning. With the timing of the new snow, all trails may not be groomed right away. Please be aware that the base might be a little slim at road crossings with a snowy dirt mixture. Always use caution on the trails as volunteers are out grooming daily to keep them in the great condition they are already in. Enjoy the trails!

Area Report:

We will re-commence with grooming when we get more groom-able snow. 6 City – 6E 50% in woods good…remainder poor. 6W(Consolidated) 80% still good, some bare spots in the open. 11/14 good/fair, some bare spots. West side to the U.P. is your best bet for continuation of decent sledding. Rainbow Creek culvert on 11(Hwy. O) tricky when crossing. When exiting to the U.P. on 11,… follow the new signs.

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 8-10 inches

Date of Report: March 5, 2018

Area Report:

Trail report for March 5, 2018 Poor to Fair condition. With the continued warm weather over the weekend our trails really took a hit. The trails are down to just the base in spots and can be bare and icy in spots. Road crossings and road routes are down to the bare blacktop so use caution riding in these areas. In the woods away from town the trails get much better but can still have ice and bare spots. It is expected to get in the middle 30’s today which will continue to degrade our trails but tonight we will get a storm system with about 2” to 4” of snow in the Northwoods.  We will have to see how much we will get by tomorrow morning. Pray for a lot of snow! Remember to be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride.

Trail Report – : Price County – Park Falls, Phillips & Prentice, Wisconsin – March 5, 2018

Reporter:Price County Tourism Department

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 0-12

Date of Report: March 5, 2018

Area Report:

Price County snowmobile trails are in good condition. The trails have a good base in most areas. Corners are getting icy,  bare spots are starting to show in some areas, approaches to road crossings are becoming bare, and road routes are bare. Two to four inches of snow are in the forecast for Monday into Tuesday. Conditions can improve or deteriorate quickly.

Some Price County trails are on private land. The use of the private land is a PRIVILEGE, not a right. Please stay on marked trails, especially across fields. There have been many complaints from landowners due to snowmobilers not staying on the trail and riding all over their fields. To avoid having these TRAILS CLOSED, PLEASE respect the private land that is open to snowmobiling and stay on marked trails.

Several miles of trail are open for winter ATV and UTV riding including the Flambeau Trail System, Solberg Trail, and Georgetown Trail. The Price County portion of the Pine Line Rail Trail (Prentice to Ogema), Snowmobile Trail 189 (Ogema to Timm’s Hill), and Snowmobile Trails 116, 181 and 118 (Prentice area loop) are also open to winter ATV and UTV riding when the trail is officially open to snowmobile use and the temperature is  28 degrees or colder.

Area Report:

March 5, 2018 – 7:25am

VILAS COUNTY TRAILS ARE OPEN
Snowmobile Trails Can Remain Open Until Midnight March 31st
Conditions permitting

Very little change in the report this morning.  Trails on average are FAIR.  In town trails are POOR frozen spots of  SNOW & ice in the mornings.  As it warms up during the day the SNOW & ice thaw & get mushy and wet especially at road crossings.  Many of the road trails for the most part have no snow on them.  Especially those running north & south.  Moving out of town conditions improve but it is a struggle to get to them without a bit of adventure sledding.  In woods trails particularly way out east, north & southwest are FAIR with even some areas of GOOD but this is getting far & few between. That would be 6 miles or more.  Trailering & dropping off to ride might be good.

Partly cloudy today with high of 33 & then 20 overnight.  Snow Showers tomorrow.  Stay tuned for totals.

Here are some continuing areas to be aware of:

The section of the Chanticleer Inn Trail off of Trail 10E that takes riders to Eagle is mushy & wet at the entrance heading to the lake but is passable.  Trail Boss is monitoring that area and will close if conditions continue.

Trail 1N logging operation continues in the section between the Town of Washington Town Hall & Eagle Lake. With the log piles and icy grainy conditions in that section it would be good to slow down. Minimal grooming due to the logging operation.

Catfish Lake Loop & Eagle Lake Trails are marked with orange easy to see reflective barrels.  Please stay by the barrels to be safe.  Reminder that the Catfish Lake Trail that ran from Braywood to Lumpy’s is not open.  Please do not trespass on private land.

To keep the riding season going it’s going to take everyone Doin’ the SNOW Dance & THINKING COLD!!

See ya on the trails again real soon!

Trail Report – : Conover, Wisconsin – March 3, 2018

Reporter:snobuddies

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 12-14 inches

Date of Report: March 3, 2018

Area Report:

Trails in Conover are now in FAIR condition.  Even with the dumping of about a foot of new snow last week, temps have warmed up and the sun has been out causing a reduction of snow and base.  Road crossings and road routes are thin or bare.  March riding is usually like this as we can pick up some big snows, the sun can come out and turn things from good to poor in a hurry.  Still good riding but you may have to be flexible with your route.  As always, ride right, ride safe and keep the track side down.
