Trail Report – : Spooner and Washburn County, Wisconsin – March 7, 2018

Reporter:Washburn County

Trail Conditions: Excellent

Snow Cover: 7-13 inch base

Date of Report: March 7, 2018

Area Report:

All of the Washburn County snowmobile trails are OPEN! Trails are in great condition with a 7 to 13 inch base.Monday night we received 6 to 7 inches of fresh powder.  Because of the timing of the new snow, all trails may not be groomed right away. Please be aware that the base might be a little slim at road crossings with a snowy dirt mixture before receiving this fresh snow. Always use caution on the trails as volunteers are out grooming daily to keep them in the great condition they are already in. Enjoy the trails!

Trail Report – : Price County – Park Falls, Phillips & Prentice, Wisconsin – March 7, 2018

Reporter:Price County Tourism Department

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 1-12

Date of Report: March 7, 2018

Area Report:

Price County snowmobile trails are in good condition. We received approximately 4 inches of snow on Monday/Tuesday. The trails have a good base in most areas. Corners are getting icy, bare spots are starting to show in some areas, approaches to road crossings are becoming bare, and road routes are bare. During March, conditions can improve with snow or deteriorate quickly with sun and warm temps. Trails are being groomed when conditions permit.

Several miles of trail are open for winter ATV and UTV riding including the Flambeau Trail System, Solberg Trail, and Georgetown Trail. The Price County portion of the Pine Line Rail Trail (Prentice to Ogema), Snowmobile Trail 189 (Ogema to Timm’s Hill), and Snowmobile Trails 116, 181 and 118 (Prentice area loop) are also open to winter ATV and UTV riding when the trail is officially open to snowmobile use and the temperature is  28 degrees or colder.

Some Price County trails are on private land. The use of the private land is a PRIVILEGE, not a right. Please stay on marked trails, especially across fields. There have been many complaints from landowners due to snowmobilers not staying on the trail and riding all over their fields. To avoid having these TRAILS CLOSED, PLEASE respect the private land that is open to snowmobiling and stay on marked trails.

Trail Report – : Boulder Junction, Wisconsin – March 7, 2018

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 8-10 inches

Date of Report: March 7, 2018

Area Report:

Trail report for March 7, 2018 Poor to Fair condition. We received some snow yesterday and got about 2 inches. To the south of us they got more. I went for a ride yesterday and inspected half of our trail system. The conditions were pretty good overall. Near town it is very bare and snowmobile routes on roads are mainly blacktop. There are some puddles in some areas and parts of the trail were down to dirt with just the fresh snow covering it. The trail is very hard and down to the base but with the added couple inches of snow it made the ride enjoyable. The humps and bumps were at a minimum and there was very low traffic (saw some tracks but no sleds on the trail). With that said I don’t know how long that will last. I will be out today to inspect the rest of our trail system and it is snowing right now but no expected snow accumulations in the near future. The temps are expected to be in the 30’s for the weekend. We will just have to see how thing turn out. Remember to be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride.

Reporter:Threelakeswi

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 5-10″ in the woods

Date of Report: March 7, 2018

Area Report:

Here are your current conditions:

A couple of inches of snow yesterday will give the trails a little facelift. Trails in town are in poor condition with dirt showing in some spots and a hard ice brace in most areas. The trails in the woods are better with more snow. The sun is high and direct and does damage when it’s out. Use caution on the lakes as some ice is settling. The trails are rideable, but in late season conditions.

Lakes are all marked, please stay close to barrels.

Trail Conditions: Fair

Area Report:

March 7, 2018 – 6:30am

VILAS COUNTY TRAILS ARE OPEN
Snowmobile Trails Can Remain Open Until Midnight March 31st
Conditions permitting

At that time in the sledding season where the trail conditions news doesn’t change very much.  Temps this morning are at 15 degree with a high of 21.  4 degrees tonight.  For the future temps will be 20’s & 30’s during the day and teens overnight.  So the SNOW on the ground isn’t going anywhere.  Just that we need new fresh SNOW.  Over the last couple of days maybe 2 inches east of Eagle River.

Trails on average are still FAIR but late riding conditions.  In town trails are POOR frozen spots of  SNOW & ice in the mornings.  As it warms up during the day the SNOW & ice thaw & get mushy and wet especially at road crossings.  Many of the road trails for the most part have no snow on them.  Especially those running north & south.  Moving out of town conditions improve but it is a struggle to get to them without a bit of adventure sledding.  In woods trails particularly way out east, north & southwest are FAIR with even some areas of GOOD but this is getting far & few between. That would be 6 miles or more.  Trailering & dropping off to ride might be good.

No grooming at this point.

Here are some continuing areas to be aware of:

The section of the Chanticleer Inn Trail off of Trail 10E that takes riders to Eagle is showing signs mushy & wet at the entrance heading to the lake but is passable.  Trail Boss is monitoring that area and will close if conditions continue.

Trail 1N logging operation continues in the section between the Town of Washington Town Hall & Eagle Lake. With the log piles and icy grainy conditions in that section it would be good to slow down. Minimal grooming due to the logging operation.

The Northland Pines School Forest logging project has expanded to Trail 17N.  It begins on the east side of Hwy 45N.  From town that would be heading north and when you reach the 17N/3N intersection on the west side of the highway & cross Hwy 45N it begins just as you get across the road onto the trail.  There are logs & equipment in that area.  Slow down to be safe.

Catfish Lake Loop & Eagle Lake Trails are marked with orange easy to see reflective barrels.  Please stay by the barrels to be safe.  Reminder that the Catfish Lake Trail that ran from Braywood to Lumpy’s is not open.  Please do not trespass on private land.

Are you Dancin’?  Can’t hear you!

See ya on the trails again real soon!

Trail Report – : Hayward / Sawyer County, Wisconsin – March 7, 2018

Trail Conditions: Excellent

Snow Cover: 1-6 inch base

Date of Report: March 7, 2018

Area Report:

Hello Riders!

Good news to all that have been eagerly awaiting a trail report after having some warm days! Your patience has paid off as we come with good news! The reports from around the county are that trails are good to excellent still! Fortunately because we received such an accumulation last night that snow was a blessing that will bring riding through the rest of the week and weekend!

But wooded trails still have a up to a 6 inch base and the lakes are wonderful! So while mapping out your weekend ride look to the woods and lakes and minimize trails that are on or near the roads. The season isn’t over yet so hop on your sled and get out and ride this weekend!

Surrounding counties are also reporting to be good to excellent.

Thank you to all club members, volunteers and groomers. And thank you to all of you for choosing Sawyer County as your riding destination.

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 4 to 6 inches

Date of Report: March 6, 2018

Area Report:

Thank you Mother Nature!  We received 4 to 6 inches throughout the Iron Snowshoe Trail System.  We are back open as of noon Wednesday.  Our groomers need some time to get out there and get this trail back into shape.

Be aware of where you are.  Use caution in the lower areas as there could be standing water.  Also, icy corners are always a problem to be concerned about.

Please, Please, Please…respect our land owners.  Do NOT venture off the trail onto their property…always, but especially this time of year, as the ground may be soft.

Have fun…drive safe!

Trail Report – : Sayner, Wisconsin – March 6, 2018

Reporter:SaynerStar Lake Barnstormers

Trail Conditions: Poor

Snow Cover: Need more on the trail

Date of Report: March 6, 2018

Area Report:

Well these are the reports I just don’t like to give. Warm & sun just devastated our trails last week. I was waiting to update this report hoping we would get a dumping and I would have a positive report. However, this last winter storm “Quinn” just was not all that. 1 to 2 inches was about it. Road routes and exposed & heavily traveled sections had a lot of bare spots before Quinn so what we got is all there is in those areas. Its looking like whatever riding there is left – this week could be about it. As usually happens toward the end of the season,  we still have some good riding out there but you have to go over some junk to get to it. There is a chance for some snow Saturday, but the high is supposed to be 35. Then Sunday 39 and Monday 40. I sure wish I had better news. If you do ride, please be prepared for ice. Even with the snowfall we got today, it is still solid ice underneath in most areas.

News and Reports:

There are logging operations in the following locations: Trail 9 between Hwy 70 (TIN 364) and Ross Lake Rd (TIN 225). There is also logging in the Jean Lake Rd area of Trail 7 North, between TINS 227 & 800. The logging, in this area, should be in the woods away from the trail.

(TIN = Trail Intersection Numbers)

Please watch out for logging areas. Slow down and stay out of the way of the loggers. DO NOT hassle the loggers. They have the right to close down sections of any trail they are logging near or using. If they get hassled too much, that is exactly what they will do – shut that trail down. The logging operations can run at anytime of the day or night. Loggers use some of the trails to drive in and out. So please be watchful in logging areas for trucks on the trail. Logging operations in any of these areas can start and/or stop without warning. So even if you ride in an area and there was nothing going on one day – it can start back up the next day.

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 5-8 inches.

Area Report:

It is critical that we respect the landowners who allow us to use their property.  Please review the information below carefully before riding to confirm that you are using open trails.

Trail Report 3/6/2018

NE Quadrant

Most of the new snow missed this quadrant; however, we did receive about 4-6 inches of snow toward our Warming Shelter.  The rest of the quadrant received a heavy dusting.

The recent heat has taken a toll on trails, but they appear to be holding up well with the heavy snow pack we received.

Some icy spots/corners have appeared along with a few traditional thin spots.  Grooming is in progress and much has already been done since the weekend.  Most trails have been groomed or have plans to be groomed this week.

Logging in progress: Trail 4 East of Bellwood Pit Road (shot haul route).  East of Hawthorne the logging job T’s off and crosses our trail several times and signage has been upgraded in that area.

NW Quadrant

All trails in this area are in excellent condition with the exception of the Logging operation areas. All trails have been groomed and are ready for the weekend.  Watch for drainage ways as they start to open creating dips and/or refreezing creating icy spots.  Gravel Road connectors are starting to fade quickly with the warmer temps but many of the grader operators have been kind in leaving snow on the edge or even shoveling the snow banks.  Get out and ride before the end of the season! The time is now!

Logging operations continue on Trail 4 and Trail 41 between Bear Creek Bridge and Wanek Road.  On Trail 4 between Brietzman Lake Road and Big Balsam Road are also experiencing logging activity.  Brushing is ongoing in these areas that are not accessible until this time of year.  Please use caution and watch for equipment on these grails.

Please note – the parking lot located off Tuff Road is closed for the season and there is no trail access from the lot.

SW Quadrant

We have a significant amount of new snow, more to the south where it is wet and heavy.  Our groomers will be out as soon as possible, and the trails will be in good condition once we can get out there.

The wind has been strong and with the heavy snow, but please know there may be trees down in the trails, and possible hidden under snow! Ride with care if you go! It will take time to get our volunteers out there.

SE Quadrant
The snow is laying down nicely making for good trail conditions.  Trail 35S, Trail 5, and part of Trail 54 have been groomed.  Trail 41B and 41S to the Burnett County Line will be groomed by Thursday.  Trail 41N, Trail 35N, Trail 7, and Trail 27 will be groomed as time allows.

Trails 217 and Trail 17
Trail 217 and Trail 17 from Cabin Lane to Trail 8 are in fair condition.  There is now snow, but the base is icy and it is not groomed yet.

Wascott Trail 3 received 8 inches of new snow on Monday night as was groomed Tuesday morning and is in great shape.

Douglas County Ski Trails
The Douglas County Cross Country Ski Trails have been groomed and packed.  Conditions are expected to be good after the grooming.

The Superior Municipal Forest Cross Country Ski Trails as of March 3 are in excellent condition and has been groomed.

Pattison State Park has been groomed and tracked and is in excellent condition.

Brule River After Hours Ski Trail as of March 2 is groomed and in good condition.
