Area Report:
Trails in Conover are now in Fair to Poor condition. With a lack of new snow and some sunny days, trails have taken a little beating. There are some bare spots and road routes are thin or bare. Does not look like any snow is in the forecast. Season is coming to an end so get out and ride. As always, ride right, ride safe and keep the track side down.

I rode our entire trail system Thur.and was pleasantly surprised
to find our trails were in good condition with a few the exceptions.
Road routes are getting thin and the logging area S/W of town along
with a few small areas out in the woods.
High temps are only forecast to be in the mid 30’s next week so if
that holds we will be in good shape.
Will report as soon as things change.

Hello Riders!
Good news to all that have been eagerly awaiting a trail report after having some warm days! Your patience has paid off as we come with good news! The reports from around the county are that trails are good to excellent still! Fortunately because we received such an accumulation last night that snow was a blessing that will bring riding through the rest of the week and weekend!
But wooded trails still have a up to a 6 inch base and the lakes are wonderful! So while mapping out your weekend ride look to the woods and lakes and minimize trails that are on or near the roads. The season isn’t over yet so hop on your sled and get out and ride this weekend!
**NOTE** Trail caution: Lake Hayward has OPEN WATER at the bridge.
Surrounding counties are also reporting to be good to excellent.

Trail report for March 9, 2018 Poor to Fair Condition The trails are very thin and down to the base in a lot of areas. The few inches of snow we got at the beginning of the week and the low amount of traffic made the trails ridable. With the temps in the mid 30’s and increased traffic over the weekend I don’t think our trails will stand up and will degrade very quickly. There are bare spots and puddles in some areas. We will just have to see how long it will last. We need more snow and colder weather! Remember to be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride.

Our trails are still fair to good. If you can believe the weather forecast, this will probably be the last weekend with decent riding. We took a short ride to Boulder on Trail #2 yesterday, and it was good to very good. There was a couple icey spots. Otherwise good snow coverage the whole way. Have also heard good things about PI, Arbor Vitae, Land O’ Lakes areas. White Thunder, Mercer has some great riding as well, it’s just tough getting through Mercer. The grade is very icey and some bare spots. Get out there and enjoy. There has been a lot of deer on the trails, so use caution and please respect them, give them some room and DO NOT CHASE THEM. You are in their home. RIDE SAFE.

Snowmobile Information:
The Manitowish Waters Sno-Skeeters snowmobile club was founded in 1968 and is one of the oldest snowmobile clubs in existence today in Wisconsin. Located in the very northwest corner of Vilas county, Manitowish Waters borders the Lake Superior snow-belt country. With average snowfalls of 150 inches and over 25 miles of professionally groomed trails, the area is one of Vilas County’s top winter vacation areas.
The Manitowish Waters trail system is a unique hub network directly linking into 5 other trail systems. With Minocqua/Woodruff to our south, St. Germain/Eagle River to our southeast, Lake Gogebic to our north, Presque Isle/Winchester to our northeast, Mercer and Hurley to our northwest and Lac du Flambeau/Price County to our west, our area residents and guests can choose from a variety of daily or overnight destinations for scenic riding with excellent pit stops along the way.
The Manitowish Waters Sno-Skeeters maintain an active grooming schedule for the area’s trail system. Coordinated efforts with the surrounding communities provide continuous smoothly-groomed trails in this northwest sector. The Sno-Skeeters own and operate some of the newest grooming equipment on the market today. Support the club by attending their special events or contributing to the “trail pigs” at local establishments along the trails. Or show your support by becoming a member!

VILAS COUNTY TRAILS ARE OPEN
Snowmobile Trails Can Remain Open Until Midnight March 31st
Conditions permitting
It’s March & we are at a time in the sledding season where the trail conditions news doesn’t change very much. Temps this morning are 15 degrees with a high of 31 today. 10 degrees tonight. For this weekend temps will be in the 30’s during the day and teens overnight. Evil sun will be out on Saturday. The trails really need some new SNOW. Base is either ice, crusty snow or frozen dirt.
Trails are FAIR-POOR. In town trails are POOR with frozen spots of SNOW & ice in the mornings. As it warms up during the day the SNOW & ice thaw & get mushy and wet especially at road crossings. Many of the road trails for the most part have little or no snow on them. After the light SNOW yesterday morning Bloom Rd was SNOW covered from the 10E intersection & south(right) heading to Lumpy’s. In woods trails particularly way out east, north & southwest are FAIR with even some areas of GOOD but this is getting far & few between. That would be 6 miles or more. A lot of adventure sledding to get there however. Trailering & dropping off to ride is a good bet.
No grooming at this point.
Here are some continuing areas to be aware of:
Trail 1N logging operation continues in the section between the Town of Washington Town Hall & Eagle Lake. With the log piles and icy grainy conditions in that section it would be good to slow down. Minimal grooming due to the logging operation.
The Northland Pines School Forest logging project has expanded to Trail 17N. It begins on the east side of Hwy 45N. From town that would be heading north and when you reach the 17N/3N intersection on the west side of the highway & cross Hwy 45N it begins just as you get across the road onto the trail. There are logs & equipment in that area. Slow down to be safe.
Catfish Lake Loop & Eagle Lake Trails are marked with orange easy to see reflective barrels. Please stay by the barrels to be safe. At the entrance to Eagle Lake on the south side off of Dollar Lake Rd there are some soft spots. Trail Boss is keeping an eye on it. Reminder that the Catfish Lake Trail that ran from Braywood to Lumpy’s is not open. Please do not trespass on private land.

Not much new to report. Trails in sugar camp are in fair at best conditions. With little snow in our last snowfall it was just enough to whiten things up again. You will encounter some snirty conditions along with some water in certain areas. Grooming has been cut to a minimal point at this time although we are still grooming until more fresh snow arrives. Some areas are no longer being being groomed due to swamps starting to develop some water in areas and the risk of damaging grooming equipment.These will be short sections but will have to be tolerated. Lakes are still safe to cross and may be rough in areas so maintain reasonable speeds while crossing. It is March and trail conditions will change as you ride although their is some good riding the further out of town you get so get out and enjoy the trails while we have the snow. United we trail divided we fail!

Price County snowmobile trails are in very good to good condition for the most part. We received approximately 4 -6 inches of snow on Monday/Tuesday. The trails have a good base in most areas. Some corners are icy, some areas may have thin snow cover or bare spots starting, approaches to road crossings are becoming bare in some areas, and road routes are bare. During March, conditions can improve quickly if it snows or deteriorate quickly with sun and warm temps. Trails are being groomed when conditions permit.
Several miles of trail are open for winter ATV and UTV riding including the Flambeau Trail System, Solberg Trail, and Georgetown Trail. The Price County portion of the Pine Line Rail Trail (Prentice to Ogema), Snowmobile Trail 189 (Ogema to Timm’s Hill), and Snowmobile Trails 116, 181 and 118 (Prentice area loop) are also open to winter ATV and UTV riding when the trail is officially open to snowmobile use and the temperature is 28 degrees or colder.
Some Price County trails are on private land. The use of the private land is a PRIVILEGE, not a right. Please stay on marked trails, especially across fields. There have been many complaints from landowners due to snowmobilers not staying on the trail and riding all over their fields. To avoid having these TRAILS CLOSED, PLEASE respect the private land that is open to snowmobiling and stay on marked trails.

Ashland County Trails are in good condition with a 1-6 inch base and have been groomed. note….Trail 25 North on Mineral Lake Road has some gravel, ride at your own risk in this area and use caution!
The 2017/2018 Ashland County Snowmobile Season will close March 31st weather permitting!!!!!!
