THE VILAS COUNTY SNOWMOBILE TRAIL SYSTEM IS OFFICIALLY OPEN

Trails are in early season condition. Please use caution as you may encounter rough areas in the trails that will require additional snow to improve conditions.   Do not cross any area lakes unless the trail has been clearly marked crossing the ice.

Stay on marked trails and enjoy our system responsibly.

A BIG SHOUT OUT TO ALL THE VOLUNTEERS WHO HAVE WORKED TIRELESSLY TO GET OUR TRAILS READY.

News and Reports:

A big thank you to the Manitowish Waters Chamber for mailing maps out for us and their help in reporting trail conditions.  Also a  huge thank you to the groomer operators who volunteer their time to make our trails the best they can be!

Snowmobile Information:

The Manitowish Waters Sno-Skeeters snowmobile club was founded in 1968 and is one of the oldest snowmobile clubs in existence today in Wisconsin. Located in the very northwest corner of Vilas county, Manitowish Waters borders the Lake Superior snow-belt country. With average snowfalls of 150 inches and over 25 miles of professionally groomed trails, the area is one of Vilas County’s top winter vacation areas.Manitowish Waters , Wisconsin - Snowmobiling Conditions & News

The Manitowish Waters trail system is a unique hub network directly linking into 5 other trail systems. With Minocqua/Woodruff to our south, St. Germain/Eagle River to our southeast, Lake Gogebic to our north, Presque Isle/Winchester to our northeast, Mercer and Hurley to our northwest and Lac du Flambeau/Price County to our west, our area residents and guests can choose from a variety of daily or overnight destinations for scenic riding with excellent pit stops along the way.

The Manitowish Waters Sno-Skeeters maintain an active grooming schedule for the area’s trail system. Coordinated efforts with the surrounding communities provide continuous smoothly-groomed trails in this northwest sector. The Sno-Skeeters own and operate some of the newest grooming equipment on the market today. Support the club by attending their special events or contributing to the “trail pigs” at local establishments along the trails. Or show your support by becoming a member!

Enjoy, and please ride responsibly and safely!

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 4-8 inches

Date of Report: December 31, 2018

Area Report:

Trail report for December 31, 2018 – Overall fair for early season riding. Since the opening on Saturday we have had a lot of traffic on Boulders trails. Our two day total for sleds on 15N was 902. Our base is still forming, and everything is still freezing up. Please use exreme caution! Stay on marked trails! All areas have very little snow and one good thing is that it’s not creating big bumps. Hopefully we will get some significant amount of snow and continued cold soon to increase our base and get the groomers out to smooth out the trail. This will only help fill in the ruts and other hazards. Have a safe and Happy New Year. Remember to be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride.

Trail Report from NorthWoods Hi-Riders Snowmobile Club
Solberg Lake Area, Price Co. Dec 28th.
The temperature has dropped and everything is freezing back up. The trails in the Solberg Lake area are rideable but only have a minimal amount of snowbase. I took a 20 mile ride this afternoon. The trails are rough, but there is enough snow to keep the slides from heating up. If you are gung-ho to go snowmobiling, you can ride, but use caution. Lakes in the area are not marked yet, but there are ice fisherman out there with snowmobiles and ATV’s. Do not cross a lake unless you know it’s safe.
Check with local businesses for further details

VILAS COUNTY TRAILS TO INCLUDE SNO-EAGLES TRAILS ARE OPEN!
Early Season Riding with FAIR & some POOR

December 31, 2018 7:48am – 22 degrees- Cloudy

Plenty of traffic this past weekend!  Trails are well ridden.

As reported there is either a thick ice base or thin ice base throughout the trails  Much thinner in town & in open areas.  Most out of town & in woods are SNOW covered.   About a 20% of SNOW today into this evening. Still SNOW covered trails with the most SNOW in the woods. High traffic has leaves working their way through.

The hard ice base is good for maintaining the trails but does make them slippery.  Slow down to be safe!

Trails 10E, 13N, 10W, 3S groomed last night.

EAGLE LAKE TRAIL & CATFISH LAKE TRAIL ARE MARKED & OPEN. Stay by the reflective orange barrels.  Remember not all lakes have trails so if you don’t see marker do not ride on it to be safe.

Need more SNOW so DO THE SNOW DANCE.  Cold has arrived!

Happy New Year & see ya on the trails!

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: another day of colder temps and flurries

Date of Report: December 30, 2018

Area Report:

Saturday was opening day and the trails help up well. Groomers were back out last night and all trails look good. Trails will deteriorate as the day progresses with heavy holiday traffic but the groomers will be out again tonight. Trail 6 just west of town has an exposed swampy spot where there is open water so use extreme caution.

Light snow showers predicted for today and tomorrow.

Happy New Year!

Trail Report – : Rhinelander, Wisconsin – December 29, 2018

Reporter:Hodag SnoTrails

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 4-6″ of new snow

Date of Report: December 29, 2018

Area Report:

Rhinelander Sno-Trails and Oneida County trails will open today (12/29/18) at 5:00 pm.  Lake crossings are only open if they are marked.  It could be another week before all lakes are deemed safe enough to mark (with barrels).

This is early season conditions.  Hodag Sno-Trails will have most of the trail system packed with the groomers at this point.  We have not been out with the drags, because there is just not enough snow for the drags to make a significant impact.

Can you go out and ride, sure, but be aware there could be rough areas, wet spots in the swamps and minimal base in the woods.  The club has been out working hard to make sure all the trails have been inspected, signed, brushed, packed are ready for more snow.  The tracked groomers have been out every day packing trails.  This activity flattens the trail base to make it smoother with fresh snow and drives down the swamp areas to allow them to freeze up solid with the nightly cold temps.

We need more snow, but the trails will be open for those who want to get out now.  Please stay on the marked trails, we need to keep all of our landowners happy, so we can maintain the trail system we have.

Area Report:

Hi Everyone,

Well, the BIG storm the weathermen called for fizzled down to mostly rain.  The little bit of snow that we did get, melted with the rain.  There is some snow forecasted for New Years Day, but it does not appear to be anything significant.  Therefore, our trails are still closed, except north of Hwy C for ATV’s and UTV’s.  Hoping to have better news for you soon.
