Trail Report – : Spooner and Washburn County, Wisconsin – January 8, 2019

Reporter:Washburn County

Trail Conditions: Poor

Snow Cover: 1 – 4″

Date of Report: January 8, 2019

Area Report:

Some Washburn County Snowmobile trails opened on Saturday, January 5th. Trail #8 both east to Sawyer County and west to Burnett County is open. And, the Wild Rivers Trail (Trail #35) from Minong (Jct. of Trail #8 and #35) north to Douglas County is open. All other Washburn County Snowmobile Trails are closed at this time. Trail conditions are considered poor, with a 1 to 4 inch ice and snow base, due to warmer than normal temperatures and rain.  Trail conditions do vary and riders may encounter ice, rough trails, some standing water conditions or no base at all. Some trail segments may be ungroomed. Generally, trail conditions are better in the northern portions of the county. Keep thinking snow so we can get the other trails opened as well!

Trail Report – : Land O’ Lakes, Wisconsin – January 8, 2019

Reporter:Phil

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: Snowing and White

Date of Report: January 8, 2019

Area Report:

Just spoke with the groomer, he said they skipped grooming the trails in Land O last night but they will be going out to do twice the amount of work tonight than they normally would do. The little amount of rain we got yesterday didn’t harm the trails too badly. It is currently snowing (big fluffy snowflakes). For not seeing much in the forecast, this sure looks promising. We have colder temps and snow in the forecast over the course of this week.

Trail Report – : Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin – January 8, 2019

Reporter:Manitowish Waters Chamber

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 6″ – 10″ inches

Date of Report: January 8, 2019

Area Report:

Our trails range from fair to good.  With the 4″ of heavy wet snow we received, I wouldn’t be surprised if we upgrade our whole system to good in a couple days.  You might have heard we had some light drizzle/ freezing rain today.  Don’t fret, this can actually help the trail base.  This is good packing snow and with colder temps coming tomorrow, the trails should set up nicely.

I had a chance to talk to riders this weekend and they were happy with the riding they had.

Sunday morning (about 4am) a couple of our groomer operators went out and were able to groom all of trail #6 up to Winchester.  THIS IS VERY ENCOURAGING NEWS! AND JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF HOW HARD OUR VOLUNTEERS ARE WORKING TO MAKE OUR TRAILS AS GOOD AS THEY CAN BE.

REMEMBER TO RIDE RIGHT, USE YOUR HAND SIGNALS, BEWARE OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND RESPECT OUR LANDOWNERS AND STAY ON THE MARKED TRAILS OR STAY HOME

News and Reports:

A big thank you to the Manitowish Waters Chamber for mailing maps out for us and their help in reporting trail conditions.  Also a  huge thank you to the groomer operators who volunteer their time to make our trails the best they can be!

Snowmobile Information:

The Manitowish Waters Sno-Skeeters snowmobile club was founded in 1968 and is one of the oldest snowmobile clubs in existence today in Wisconsin. Located in the very northwest corner of Vilas county, Manitowish Waters borders the Lake Superior snow-belt country. With average snowfalls of 150 inches and over 25 miles of professionally groomed trails, the area is one of Vilas County’s top winter vacation areas.Manitowish Waters , Wisconsin - Snowmobiling Conditions & News

The Manitowish Waters trail system is a unique hub network directly linking into 5 other trail systems. With Minocqua/Woodruff to our south, St. Germain/Eagle River to our southeast, Lake Gogebic to our north, Presque Isle/Winchester to our northeast, Mercer and Hurley to our northwest and Lac du Flambeau/Price County to our west, our area residents and guests can choose from a variety of daily or overnight destinations for scenic riding with excellent pit stops along the way.

The Manitowish Waters Sno-Skeeters maintain an active grooming schedule for the area’s trail system. Coordinated efforts with the surrounding communities provide continuous smoothly-groomed trails in this northwest sector. The Sno-Skeeters own and operate some of the newest grooming equipment on the market today. Support the club by attending their special events or contributing to the “trail pigs” at local establishments along the trails. Or show your support by becoming a member!

Trail Report – : Antigo/Langlade County, Wisconsin – January 8, 2019

Reporter:langlade

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover: 2-4

Date of Report: January 8, 2019

Area Report:

CLOSED until further notice. The Langlade County Snowmobile Ordinance prohibits snowmobilers and all-terrain vehicles from operating on the above trails. Anyone operating on the above trails will be cited.

Even though Langlade County received 2-4 inches of snow on January 7, it rained most of the day after the snow had fallen. Overnight temperatures were above freezing, so groomers weren’t able to get out to pack the heavy wet snow. Therefore, there is water sitting in swamps and field that are not frozen. The extended weather forecast is calling for colder temperatures. Please keep checking back.

Also, the Langlade County ATV trail system will remain closed until further notice.

Trail Report – : Rhinelander, Wisconsin – January 8, 2019

Reporter:Hodag SnoTrails

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 4-6″ with a good base

Date of Report: January 8, 2019

Area Report:

We received 3+ inches of wet heavy snow followed with some rain.  All of the groomers will be out panning the trails and will be completed within the next 48 hours.  The good news is this type of snowfall with the cold temps will set up well with the panning efforts.  The struggle continues to be the lack of snow to get the trails in world class condition.  The groomers will be working hard to make the trails as flat as possible, but there still isn’t enough to rate them as “good”.

The forest roads and trails with a good base will be fine.  The fields will still be a bit thin due the the high winds that could have blown some of the snow off.

All of the lakes are marked and are safe to cross – staying by the markers.

Please stay on all marked trails. It is an ongoing situation to keep all of our landowners happy that snowmobilers are respecting their property.

VILAS COUNTY TRAILS TO INCLUDE SNO-EAGLES TRAILS ARE OPEN!
Early Season Riding with FAIR conditions

January 8, 2019 6:40am – 30 degrees  with temps dropping quickly today

The 4-5 1/2 inches of wet packy SNOW is now panned or groomed in Sno-Eagles Country!  Saw the groomers heading out last night around 5:30pm.  One making the crossing in town heading south on 3S (aka “the grade” or Alt13).  The other on Trail 17N moving it’s way along the KartWay heading north.

Really lucked out with weather yesterday.  From around 11am-2pm there was a fine mist with a few periods of very very light rain.  Did little to the new SNOW.

Today we are at the high for the day already. Temps will steadily drop all day with a low of 8 degrees.  Temps in the teens or low 20’s until Saturday when the high will be in the high 20’s.  SNOW forecast Saturday.  Could be a little SNOW on Friday night too.  Stay tuned!

Reminder that in Sno-Eagles Country there are 2 areas that have one-way trails.  10E is a one-way trail from the ERRA Sports Arena all the way out to Nicolet Mini Mart.  So heading out east you are on the south side of the road.  Heading back into town heading west you are on the north side of the road.  The other is the 13’s up near Buckatabon Bridge & Bauer’s Dam area.  Clearly marked with DO NOT ENTER signs.  This can be dangerous.

EAGLE LAKE TRAIL & CATFISH LAKE TRAIL ARE MARKED & OPEN. Stay by the reflective orange barrels.  Do not drift away from the barrels as it is not safe to do so.  Remember not all lakes have trails so if you don’t see marker do not ride on it to be safe.  These are the only 2 lakes that are marked in Sno-Eagles Country.  No other lake trails.

Winter is back!  Continue DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE & THINK COLD!

See ya on the trails!

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 6 to 8 In The Woods

Date of Report: January 7, 2019

Area Report:

About 5 inches of heavy&wet snow fell early this morning. While we also got some rain later on, it made the snow even heavier. Once we get this gift of white gold groomed and packed; it will make a really awesome base that will hold for a LONG time. The trails will average out in great condition after tomorrow (Tuesday)!!!

Trail Report – : Hayward / Sawyer County, Wisconsin – January 7, 2019

Reporter:haywardlakes

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: Zero to 3 inches

Date of Report: January 7, 2019

Area Report:

Hello Riders!

Much of the county received rain last night into the early hours this morning. Some in the county did get a wintery mix so they got a bit of wet, heavy snow. Areas of the Chippewa Flowage received about an inch and a half to two inches of wet snow. The southern part of the county received rain and do not have good riding conditions yet. Again, the lakes and wooded trails in the center part of the county going north had pretty good snow that has now gotten a bit slushy with today’s warmer temps but the good news is the temps will drop back down tonight and will hold below freezing for the rest of the week so the lakes and woods will freeze back up. The open trails do have bare spots as well as some bare spots in the woods. Riders today coming from the north and traveling through the Seeley Hills, Flowage and back to the north are pleasantly surprised! Most certainly is rideable out there! Again, temps will drop down and stay down this week. We will update again after everything freezes back up and more reports come in. Snow is in the forecast early next week and no big melt down anywhere in the near future.

Bayfield and Price counties are open. Washburn and Ashland are partially open. Barron and Rusk are closed.

ATV/UTV trails are also open in Sawyer County in the winter. A few areas do have some closures and those are listed on the map.

Thank you to all club members and to all of you that make Sawyer County your riding destination!
