EAGLE RIVERS  TRAILS
POOR to GOOD
Working to rehab trails & open up drive & road crossings

February 26 2019 7:50am  – 14 below – High 12

Winter cold temps are back.  Tonight 1-3 inches of SNOW & another 1 or so tomorrow morning.

As the area recovers from SNOWMAGADON the groomer drivers are working double duty.  This amount of SNOW on the trails turns grooming into trail rehab. Large drifted area, high snowbanks, blocked crossing.  Long days working on the trails.  A BIG THANK YOU!!!

Yesterday trails 10E, 13N, Manske Swamp aka 3N, 17N, 17/7/13S, 3 aka 13alt reported by Trail Boss as groomed.

Riding is still sketchy.  If you decide to ride be prepared as it is also cold.  Charged phone & consider downloading the Vilas County MapIt trail app. Layer clothing.  Stop more often for warm drinks.  Let someone know where you are going.

Here are some important updates:

Trail 10W/13N aka Wisconsin River Bridge Trail is Closed Effective Immediately

There is 1 logging operations going on where there is a need to use parts of the trails. Trail 13N by Deep Lake Rd. Utility work on 7 near Sugar Camp on the high line.

The snowbanks at driveway crossing & road crossings will be even higher after crews get out to do road clean up.  Clean up continues & expect some blocked road & driveway crossings.

As trails get cleaned up trail signs will be buried in deep SNOW.  It will take clubs throughout Vilas County time to unbury or add post extensions to the existing signs.

EAGLE LAKE TRAIL & CATFISH LAKE TRAIL ARE MARKED & OPEN. With that said the SNOW will be way deep & will have drifts.  So expect dangerous conditions.  Might be best to stay off.

The 2 one-way trail areas are 10E from the ERRA Sports Arena all the way out to Nicolet Mini Mart.  The other is the 13’s up near Buckatabon Bridge & Bauer’s Dam area.  Please be aware that for now signs will be buried in many locations.  PLEASE BE SURE TO CHECK A MAP SO YOU KNOW THE LOCATION OF THESE TRAILS.

Let’s give the grooming crew the time to clean up.

If you like snow you are in the right place. We are grooming everything as fast as possible. Trees and branches hanging over the trail are slowing things down. First time in years I have whined about too much snow. Been buried in my yard, on the trail, on the lake, and off trail………Long tracks and paddles would be GREAT

WOW!!!  What a weekend.

Lots of riders had great trails.  With the warm temperatures and rain Saturday night, our groomers were unable to finish their sections.  Everything froze down Sunday night, so groomers were able to go back out today and will throughout the week.  The report back is that the trails are again turning out awesome!  There’s plenty of snow out there.  We will be riding for a while.  I will rate these trails as excellent.

Be sure to check out the ATV/UTV Ice Race on Saturday, March 2, sponsored by Twin Bridge Ski Team.  We will be there…hope to see you all.

They should be in very good shape for next weekend so come up and enjoy the trails as they will be some of the best riding of the season

Trail Report – : Lake Gogebic | Bergland, Michigan – February 25, 2019

Reporter:AJ’s Walleye Lodge

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 20+” in the last day!

Date of Report: February 25, 2019

Area Report:

This is my view of Lake Gogebic this morning as we dig out from Snowpocalypse 2019 where we’ve received over 20” of snow yesterday. Gogebic Area Grooming will be heading out to break trails soon, but they have one groomer down due to mechanical issues. Parts are being ordered today they hope to have it up and running by Wednesday. Groomers ask that you please be patient as it is going to take some effort to get the trails back in shape. We will update when we know that groomers are heading out. Temps are brisk today and don’t get much past the mid teens. Snow (again) in the forecast for Wednesday and then on Friday. The Lodge is open and Jim and Anthony are getting everything back in shape here!

Please be safe and use caution and good judgement.

Snowmobile report

Snow, snow, and more snow. Temps are only going to be in the teens for the highs the next couple of days with lows in the single digits. We received from 18-24¡å or more over the weekend with 40-60MPH winds. Last week we received 10-12¡å as well. Groomers have not been out since Sunday morning across the whole area. Trails are completely drifted across and road crossings have very large banks. Trails will be tough to navigate for the first half of this week as we work to bust them back open. We ask for your patience this week as we work to bring trails back into shape.

THE GOGEBIC RANGE TRAIL AUTHORITY reports on 2/21/19 grooming is ongoing. If you see a groomer please pull over and let them pass.

This beautiful trail is 12 miles of unplowed wide logging roads that wind their way through the Gogebic Range Hills before running 10 miles of rail-trail to Marenisco. PLEASE STOP AT ALL STOP SIGNS ON THE RAIL TRAIL! There is a significant logging presence on FR-8100 with dozens of log trucks hauling out daily. Last week an accident occurred with a log truck. Some friendly reminders:

KNOW before you GO. Take a couple extra minutes before you head out to check a map and plan out the day.

Stop at all stop signs completely stop at all stop signs. Look left-right-left.

Please remember to ride RIGHT and ride TOGETHER

Taking into account the above consider that the snow we are currently getting is fluffy and creates a large powder cloud, so allow extra space between riders due to reduced visibility.
