Trail 10W/13N aka Wisconsin River Bridge trail is
CLOSED FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON

March 17 2019 6:30am – 9 – High 36

Winter continues in Vilas County.  As for Eagle River the temps really dropped over night.  9 degrees this morning!  No additional SNOW overnight.  Will be 36 for a high.

No grooming overnight.

In town trails have degraded.  Here are some better riding areas.

The grade south to the 10E intersection.  Past the 10E intersection road sections bare & mush & water in some places.

Out east on 10E starting where the one way starts at the ERRA Sports Arena & east.  There are some corners that were exposed to sun that are icy & yes the road trail section out in the Anvil Lake area that are bare. Also thin on the north side of the trail heading west across the road from Catfish Lake Rd under the big pines.  The photo above was taken of 10E heading west, northside at 2:38pm Saturday, March 16, 2019.

Heading north on 3/13. This as you leave town.  At the intersection take 3 north.  10W/13N is closed.

17N is beginning to degrade in the open areas.

In the morning all trails crusty & icy.  As the day goes on the SNOW softens up. Plenty of SNOW to lubricate.

These important updates continue:

There is 1 logging operations going on where there is a need to use parts of the trails. Trail 13N by Deep Lake Rd. Plus utility work on 7 near Sugar Camp on the high line.

Even with the warm up there are snowbanks at driveway crossings & road crossings.  Road crews are still out off & on winging road banks.  There are some parts of trails that run along highways that could be have chunky snow on them from the road clearings.  10E is one.

EAGLE LAKE TRAIL & CATFISH LAKE TRAIL ARE MARKED & OPEN. Lots of slush so for the more experienced rider at this point.

The 2 one-way trail areas are 10E from the ERRA Sports Arena all the way out to Nicolet Mini Mart.  The other is the 13’s up near Buckatabon Bridge & Bauer’s Dam area.  Please be aware that for now signs will be buried in many locations.  PLEASE BE SURE TO CHECK A MAP SO YOU KNOW THE LOCATION OF THESE TRAILS.

HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY! Trails can & will remain open until midnight March 31 snow & conditions permitting.

Groomers will be running today/tonight and will continue to groom daily as the temperatures allow. Looks like we’ll be in the 40’s by Wednesday.

Trail Report – : Sayner, Wisconsin – March 15, 2019

Reporter:SaynerStar Lake Barnstormers

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: Depleated

Date of Report: March 15, 2019

Area Report:

Earlier this week, warm weather & rain hit the northwoods. It took what was the best snow-cover we have had in years and absolutely decimated it.

There is still riding but there is a LOT of ice out there. Unless we get some snow; cooling and slide lube will be a problem. The already slushy lakes are worse than ever. Many slush holes are full of ruts. There is still ice underneath, but a lot of water & slush on top.

Road routes that are plowed, have little to nothing remaining on them.

We need at least a couple inches of fresh snow to work with to return the trails to a better level.

March 15 2019 6:10pm  – 29  – Low 15 UPDATE

Temps have dropped & a skiff of SNOW over night. Less than an inch.  Teens at night throughout this weekend.  30’s during the day.  Cloudy.

No grooming overnight.

Trail conditions are about the same.  SNOW is soft during the day when temps rise.  Crusty in the mornings with temps going down into the teens or low 20’s at night.   Plenty of SNOW to ride on with varying conditions to include icy.  In town SNOW is the softest.  Water at the edges of all road crossings & later today expect some on trail sections.  The crossing just past Friendship House that takes you to the rec bridge along Hwy 45N is the worst where there is snirt.  Trails in many areas are solid & snow filled with top SNOW crusty.  Out of town going east is pretty good with downgrade between Loon Lake Rd to Bloom Rd & crossing the bridge near Boat Sport.  Otherwise pretty GOOD riding.  North the same conditions.  West the area from the Town of Lincoln Townhall out a distance is downgraded as well.  Rest is pretty darn good.  On the high hill on Trail 70W icy & rough.  Take Trail 7 aka Paintball Field to Sugar Camp Trail 15 & on to the alternate 70’s to St. Germain OR head north on 13N taking 10W/13N toward Sayner.    Note most road trails/routes are bare or low on snow. All in all what really surprised me was the lack of snirt at the crossings.  What is there is grey/brownish SNOW because of the softness & plenty of moisture.

These important updates continue:

There is 1 logging operations going on where there is a need to use parts of the trails. Trail 13N by Deep Lake Rd. Plus utility work on 7 near Sugar Camp on the high line.

EAGLE LAKE TRAIL & CATFISH LAKE TRAIL ARE MARKED & OPEN. There is surface slush on top & layered through the SNOW.  Hard ice under the SNOW.

With the warm weather and rain the last few days the trail conditions will vary greatly depending on where they are at. There will be overflow conditions from snow melt and rain scattered through out our trail system so use extreme caution when riding. We are no longer grooming on a regular basis and will only be grooming when temperatures and weather permit for the remaining 17 days before the trails close. As always, be safe and have fun. Follow our club on Facebook for pictures and updates on club activities. Thank you,  Prentice Bush Benders.

Snowmobile Information:

The Manitowish Waters Sno-Skeeters snowmobile club was founded in 1968 and is one of the oldest snowmobile clubs in existence today in Wisconsin. Located in the very northwest corner of Vilas county, Manitowish Waters borders the Lake Superior snow-belt country. With average snowfalls of 150 inches and over 25 miles of professionally groomed trails, the area is one of Vilas County’s top winter vacation areas.

The Manitowish Waters trail system is a unique hub network directly linking into 5 other trail systems. With Minocqua/Woodruff to our south, St. Germain/Eagle River to our southeast, Lake Gogebic to our north, Presque Isle/Winchester to our northeast, Mercer and Hurley to our northwest and Lac du Flambeau/Price County to our west, our area residents and guests can choose from a variety of daily or overnight destinations for scenic riding with excellent pit stops along the way.

The Manitowish Waters Sno-Skeeters maintain an active grooming schedule for the area’s trail system. Coordinated efforts with the surrounding communities provide continuous smoothly-groomed trails in this northwest sector. The Sno-Skeeters own and operate some of the newest grooming equipment on the market today. Support the club by attending their special events or contributing to the “trail pigs” at local establishments along the trails. Or show your support by becoming a member!

Enjoy, and please ride responsibly and safely!
