Area Report:

All Clark County snowmobile trails are CLOSED for the season.  Please be aware riding on closed trails is trespassing and fines apply, not to mention it could cause long term trail closures!

Snowmobile Information:

Our club has been active for 31 years now.  We started out as a small club in 1988 named The Neillsville Rec Riders, designing ATV routes that accessed the Clark County Forest Trail System, via roads.  We then created our first cross county un-groomed snowmobile and winter ATV trail system from Neillsville to Granton.  In 1993 we purchased a used Bombardier groomer to start grooming our trail for snowmobiling.  In 1996 we expanded our snowmobile and winter ATV trail system from Neillsville to the Clark County Forest Trail near Hatfield. 

    In 1997 we added a tractor and new drag to our grooming fleet to keep up with the grooming schedule.  In 1999 we further expanded our growing trail system with a snowmobile trail running from Granton to Sherwood.  In 2001 we made a big achievement in trail devolpement by creating a snowmobile trail from Neillsville to Loyal, giving us a total of 56 miles in groomed snowmobile trails across private lands.   In 2002 we had to add a second tractor and drag to keep up with the high grooming demand.  After receiving heavy, drifting snows during the ’06-’08 seasons while continuing to get stuck with our tractors, we felt the need to add a newer tracked groomer to our fleet.

  We purchased a Piston Bully trailer groomer to keep up with the demanding trail grooming where our tractors fell short, in deep snow and eliminated 1 tractor and drag!  We groom our trails 20′ wide where ever possible and they are the best marked in the county, you won’t get lost on our trail system!   In 2010, we had to cease the operation of winter ATV use on all of our snowmobile trails, due to increasing abuse from disrespectful ATV’ers creating problems on private lands. Moving forward in 2011 we strive to keep up with the best snowmobile trails in the county and that is out main focus moving on.  Upgrading in 2017 we purchased a 2007 Prinoth BR180 tracked groomer adding two tracked machines to our fleet.

 The Clark County Forest ATV and Snowmobile Trails are maintained by the Parks and Forest Department as well as the 9 other clubs that maintain the rest of the trails in Clark County.  Our club would not be where it is today without the help and permission of the 89 landowners who allow us to cross their lands.  With out them we would have no trails.  All of our members that help out, donate their time and it is much appreciated when we get compliments on how well of a job we have done.

Area Report:

Trails close at midnight on 3/24/19.  Thank you to all who helped maintain the trails this season.  Big thanks to the land owners that graciously allow the trails on their property.  We had a good second half of the season with plenty of snow cover.

There were way too many fatalities in the area this season.  Hopefully, next season is a zero fatality season.

The 11 clubs that make up the Vilas County Snowmobile Alliance have unanimously voted to close the trails on Sunday, March 24 at midnight.   Here is the official statement from the Vilas County Parks & Recreation Department:

Well we almost made it to the end of the year.  Hope your sledding year was a good one.  See ya on the trails in 2019-2020!

The trails are starting to deteriorate quickly with all the sun and warm temperatures. The trials that have logging operations on them are down to dirt. There are water holes starting and swamps are getting wet also so if you’re sneaking out for those last couple of miles this weekend please ride safe and Watch for these areas.

Get out & get your last ride in trails will be closing Sunday March 24th 2019 at midnight. Grooming has stopped for the season. THANK YOU to all the groomer operator’s & clubs  for doing a fantastic job this season & keeping the trails smooth for everyone to enjoy. Remember to support a club year round, see everyone next December!! United we trail divided we fail!!

Trail report for March 22, 2019– Trails are fair. It is currently about 18 Deg above zero. The snowmobile trails will officially close at 11:59 P. M. Sunday March 24, 2019. The road routes and road crossings are very bare. There are puddles and bare spots on the corners and other areas. Please use caution. Away from town the conditions do get better and there is very low traffic. Our trails will continue to degrade over the next couple of days with the warm temps. I would like to thank everyone involved in making our trails top notch and the great job our groomers did. We had a great season! Remember to be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride.

Here are your current conditions
Our trail system will close Sunday March 24th at midnight. Trails are still in rideable condition in the woods. You may encounter a wet spot. Lakes are slushy and wet. Crystal lake has the barrels removed so we do not recommend that lake.
Travel like it is early season conditions.

Please stay on the trail, or you have a good chance of getting stuck. You must yield to the groomers, they have the right away. It is much easier to get a sled unstuck then it is a groomer.

Please, slow down and limit your drinking. Way too many fatalities in northern Wisconsin, and they all can be prevented.

Remember, stay as close to the barrels as possible. If you don’t see barrels, assume they are not safe.

Please respect our private landowners and stay on the trail. We have had a couple issues this year already and it always puts our trails in danger.

Use caution at all road crossing as they are icy.

Well the chances of getting to the end of the month are not looking as good as this did this past weekend.  The Vilas County Snowmobile Alliance had it’s monthly meeting Wednesday night.  The 11 clubs that make up the Vilas County Snowmobile Alliance have unanimously voted to close the trails on Sunday, March 24 at midnight.  So if you are going to ride do it quickly.

Sunny skies have taken a toll on most trails in Eagle River.  The warm days & cold nights had turned the SNOW into really crystallized icy SNOW.  Frozen in the morning then soft as the day went by.  Looks more like a frozen snow cone on the trails in the morning.  The base is still hard ice in most areas except in town.  Snirt & dirt appearing as well.

Better riding along the north border of Vilas County.  

No grooming.

These important updates continue if you choose to ride this last weekend of the season:

Trail 10W/13N aka Wisconsin River Bridge trail is CLOSED FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON

There is 1 logging operations going on where there is a need to use parts of the trails. Trail 13N by Deep Lake Rd. Plus utility work on 7 near Sugar Camp on the high line.

EAGLE LAKE TRAIL & CATFISH LAKE TRAIL ARE MARKED & OPEN. Lots of slush so for the more experienced rider at this point.

The 2 one-way trail areas are 10E from the ERRA Sports Arena all the way out to Nicolet Mini Mart.  The other is the 13’s up near Buckatabon Bridge & Bauer’s Dam area.  

Well we almost made.  Been a great season.  Here’s to another SNOWY 2019-2020 season!
