We have plenty of snow right now.All of the gates are open and By tonight,Trail 2 from Iron Mountain To Norway and over to Hwy 8 will be packed.By this Sunday nite,all of our system will be Packed by our Piston Bully.All of the swamps are being bypassed,not frozen.We will start grooming next week.12-23-19.Be very careful,there is a lot of snow on the trails and you could find,Trees and branches buried just under the snow.You could see water and other unknown obstacles in the snow.Remember-The Right Side Is Mine!

Oconto County Snowmobile Trails Open Friday, December 20, 2019

Oconto County snowmobile clubs and volunteers have worked tirelessly to get the Northern Oconto County Snowmobile Trials cleaned up, groomed and ready for your snowmobiling enjoyment. There are a few sections of trail that are not open. Those sections are detailed on the attached map. The southern trails remain closed as the majority of those trails are on Ag land that have not been harvested or swamps that have not frozen over.

The nine snowmobile clubs in Oconto County work together with the Oconto County Forest Administrator, who gives the final approval before trails may open. Once the Southern trails are approved to open, the announcement will appear on the official Oconto County Trail Report web page https://www.ocontocounty.org/trail-reports/ . For your own safety, and that of the club groomers and volunteers- please stay off the southern trails – do not ride on closed trails. For more information, please contact the Oconto County website or the Forest and Parks Department at 920-834-6995.

Red Arrow Snowmobile ATV Club (Townsend) – Life is good in Townsend today. The County has decided to open our trails in the north part of the County on Friday December 20, 2019. They will be all freshly groomed, but the forecast is for warm weather? When out riding this year please be sure and drive only on the groomed part of the trail. There are many hidden dangers buried under that snow.

Paul Bunyan Riders Snowmobile Club (Lakewood) – Will update soon!

Chute Pond Snowmobile Club (Mountain) – Chute Pond Snowmobile Club trails will partially open this Friday, December 20th, in fair to good “early season” condition. Exceptions are from INT#451-INT#453 (from east of Hwy 32 behind the Junction to Jack Pine Rd), and from INT#447 north to the 18 Corridor trail near Cooked Lake (the northern pipeline trail). DO NOT ride the closed trails- they have not been cleared from the July wind storms because the swamps are still wet and have not allowed equipment to get in to work on those areas yet.

As for the rest of the trails, there will be some bumps, dips, and ruts to deal with as the groomers continue to work on the trails. Be aware that any off-trail riding- even to take one ski off to “grab a little loose snow”- could be dangerous. The July wind storms have devastated many areas of our forested trails, and there are many trees and limbs on the ground just off the edges of the groomed trails.

Riders are urged to reduce speed, and ride with extra caution, as the trails look very different since the storm. You are encouraged to carry a portable hand saw if possible, since limbs and branches continue to fall onto and over the trails.

SNOWMOBILE TRAILS IN EAGLE RIVER
& ALL OF VILAS COUNTY ARE NOT OPEN.
Set to open at 8am Friday, December 20!!!!

Just a bit chilly this Wednesday morning. 7 below moving our way up to 9 degrees above for a high today. Groomers that were out last night panning & grooming laid a great trail!

The last 2 clubs will be inspected today & tomorrow by the Vilas County Parks & Rec Department. Moving to the opening date of December 20th! Did I say that’s FRIDAY at 8am!!!

A ton of very hard work was put in by Sno-Eagles volunteers and volunteers of the other 10 clubs getting the trails ready this year. Ton of SNOW. Trees & limbs all over the trails. Wet mushy area. Water in the swamps. Lots of packing to freeze ’em up.

Last words this morning. Lake trails in Eagle River will not open on Friday. Check with other clubs to learn about their lakes. The Oneida County Snowmobile Trail System will NOT open on Friday.

Winter Snowmobile and All-Season Trails (As of 12/17/2019)

Snowfalls from the past couple weeks have left our area with up to 22-30″ of snow in many places, however, many trails remain CLOSED to snowmobile traffic at this time until the clubs can get out there and properly groom and prepare the trails for use. Many swamp areas have not frozen over at this time. The clubs and the Douglas County Forestry Department are actively working on preparing and inspecting trails for safe frozen conditions in wet areas, removal of any deadfalls, and proper signing before opening. PLEASE check the trail you intend to use is open and do not trespass on private property. It is critical that we respect the landowners who allow us to utilize their property. It just takes one owner to deny the use of their land for a trail to be permanently shut down, so please be courteous and wait for the trails to officially open.

Cross Country Ski Trails (As of 12/17/2019)

Douglas County Ski Trails – All service roads and parking lots are plowed. Crews have started packing the trails, but they are not ready to be groomed yet. Additional updates will be provided once they are groomed.

Superior Municipal Forest – All trails north of 42nd Street (Red, Green, Blue, and Millennium) are groomed and the track has been set on the appropriate trails. The outer purple is groomed and tracked as well. Overall ski conditions are excellent!

Pattison State Park – No data at this time.

Brule River After Hours Trail – The entire trail system has been groomed and tracked. The trail is still soft in areas that crews are still working on the snow base. Overall the trails are fairly smooth and will improve as temperatures drop.

Trail Report – : Hayward / Sawyer County, Wisconsin – December 17, 2019

Hello Riders!

As you know the Sawyer County trails are OPEN and the Chequamegon Forest Trails are OPEN and until more freezes each trail varies in how rideable they are depending on where they lead. The county land and forest trails as well as the Tuscobia are where you’ll find the best riding. We have approximately a 16″ base. Our lakes and swamps are not frozen enough to be safe yet so those trails leading to swamps and lakes are not open yet with the exception of Moose Lake,which has been staked. We have received heavy snow fall this month and it’s a wonderful sight! However with the snow fall that hinders the freezing process a bit as it provides a layer of insulation.

The trails in the Seeley Hills area and 3/5 towards Lost Land Lake and Moose Lake have been groomed several times. The Tuscobia in the Winter area has been groomed. Also the Tuscobia from Birchwood to Couderay has been groomed as well as to the Rusk, Washburn and Barron County lines has. The Wild River Trail from the Rice Lake area up is open. Trail 8 on the Sawyer County and Washburn County side will be groomed on Wed. Trail 3 gates in the Birchwood area are open. Like any other private property trails that you find the gates to be open ride at your own risk as they are not groomed yet and there may be down debris from the recent snow storms this month, if the gates are not open please absolutely do not go around them.

Surrounding areas: The Clam Lake area is open, Rusk Co is closed, Bayfield Co is scheduled to open today, Ashland Co is open but not yet groomed, Washburn is partially opened and Barron is partially opened. The note from Barron Co is they are having a little set back as many of their trail cross fields and there is still standing corn as farmers are trying to get their corn cut but have had a setback due to weather so they are working on some reroutes.

It has been a long time since we have had this great snow and this much so early in December, we have a great start to the season!

Trail Report – : Lake Gogebic | Bergland, Michigan – December 17, 2019

We received over a foot of snow so far this week and our temp this morning was 12 degrees.

Trails are being groomed daily in most of the Lake Gogebic Area. Trails are all reporting in good condition.

Trail 1S: Gogebic Area Grooming and their volunteers were out for 2 days clearing Trail 1 on the West Shore. There is enough snow to make snow bridges to get across the wet and washed out areas and hoping to have this trail open by Christmas!

Trails 13 North and South The drag went up 13 North and Marenisco’s Groomer went South on 13 breaking trails once more. Trail 100 and 102 also got hit.

Trail 8W between Bergland and Wakefield – still some wet spots. Use caution.

Trail 8W: is open and snow cover is good.

Trail 102: there is a new reroute about 4 miles before trail 11. The trail is marked well and the reroute was a very nice turn out. (Temporary Re-Route)

Past the Root Cellar, there is more logging. You will have to travel on East Shore Rd approximately 2 mile further then before to get back onto trail 13. A new reroute will take place. Please follow the signs marked 13. (Permanent Re-Route for the 2019-2020 Season).

Trail 100: Logging is happening between Stagecouch Rd and the Slate River (very end of Lake Gogebic) Marshall Creek Bridge has been fixed so you can get to Marenisco from trail 100. (Permanent for 2019-2020 season)

Trail 1 from Trail 100 to Trail 8: Closed until further notice as logging is taking place until the end of December. You still can access the Gogebic Lodge and we plan to maintain it up to the Lodge, so we can get up and run.

Please stay on the trails, respect private property, do not drink and drive, and above all else, drive safely. The signs on the trails are there for rider’s safety so please DO NOT remove or destroy them.

Snowfall:

Lake Gogebic Area has received a total of 84.5” of snow for the season and Keweenaw County has received 114.2″ of snow for the season.

Riders are all reporting good to great riding conditions!

Ashland County Snowmobile Report December 18, 2019
The Ashland County snowmobile trails opened December 12. Even though we have received a lot of snow, trails are reported at this time in poor condition. We have 3 groomers out trying to get through the trails. Down trees and deep snow is making this difficult. Be cautious in the swampy areas for standing water. Please bear with us and STAY ON THE TRAILS. Be respectful of the farmers land! Stay on trail, as much of the Ashland County snowmobile trail system uses private property and could be lost if the property owners experiences issues. The most common complaints are snowmobiles not staying on trails or going off into fields that are not part of the trail, and loud noise from non-stock muffler systems. Respect the trail system so that it remains open.

THE VILAS COUNTY STATE-FUNDED SNOWMOBILE TRAIL SYSTEM WILL OFFICIALLY OPEN AT 8:00 A.M. ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 20 FOR THE 2019-20 SEASON.

The volunteers that make up the eleven snowmobile clubs in the Vilas County Snowmobile Alliance (VCSA) have been working hard to get the Vilas Snowmobile Trail System open in a timely manner. The last round of snow storms resulted in a lot of trees down throughout our trail network. The ample snowfalls insulated the wet areas resulting in clubs having to pack snow in these areas. The cold temperatures will assist in the freezing.

Please stay off area lakes until trails are clearly marked going across them.

Trail Report – : Spooner and Washburn County, Wisconsin – December 17, 2019

Some Washburn County Snowmobile Trails have officially been opened for the snowmobiling season. Open trails will include the Wild Rivers Trail (Trail #35), a portion of the rail grade connecting Wild Rivers Trail to Shell Lake (Trail #39), a portion of Trail #8 east from Wild Rivers Trail to the intersection with Trail #39 (From County intersection #13 to intersection #35), and Trail #39 from Trego north to intersection with Trail #8 (From County intersection #11 to intersection #35).

All other Washburn County snowmobile trails do remain closed at this time. Unfrozen wet trails still persist throughout much of these closed trail segments.

Trail conditions on open trails will be very good, with a 6 to 10 inch compacted snow base. Enjoy the snow!

13 degrees this morning on the way to 19 for a high today. The well over 2 feet off trail & over a 1 foot on trail SNOW is not going anywhere. Teens or single digits for highs during the day & below zero of nearly below zero until Thursday. Cloudy to partly cloudy.

Sno-Eagles Eagle River trails were inspected by Park & Rec department last Friday. The Parks & Rec Administrator & his assistant both went out to inspect splitting the trails up to speed up inspections. Several club members road along for safety & to see first hand any needed corrections. Several other clubs remain to be inspected. Moving to the opening date of December 20th!

In the meantime groomers are out panning & grooming the trails to prepare for the opener. Check out Sno-Eagles Facebook page for a grooming video.
