Reporter:Phillips/Park Falls Chambers

Trail Conditions: Excellent

Snow Cover: 16-20

Date of Report: January 29, 2020

Area Report:

The Price County Trail system consist of over 500 miles of scenic trails, great places to stop to fill up on fuel, food and beverages. The trails are maintained by 9 clubs and reported by the two Chambers.

We invite you to take a trip and see all that Price County has to offer.

****There is a reroute on Trail 120 that will be in effect all season. The reroute is on the Northern section that eliminates the old 120 trail from FR 519 to the intersection of 120 and 121. Reroute takes you NW up FR519 to Sheep Ranch to FR522 then connects to 101. This eliminates a very bad part of the swamp.****

We are happy to report the trails around Solberg Lake, and the Phillips area in general, are in Very Good to Excellent condition and are being groomed on a regular basis including all the swamps and previous wet spots. Solberg Lake has a few rough spots on the section to Lugerville heading west where the slush we had last week has now frozen, so take it easy through that area, it is pretty easy to see it. Most of the lake along the marked trail is good. Logging continues north of Solberg Park on 112 and north on 121 towards Hick’s Landing. Happy Trails!

Trail report for January 29, 2020 – Trails are good. With the weather staying in the 30’s for highs the trails remain soft and get bumpy quickly. Get out early to ride the good trails. We are finally back to full strength after having some mechanical problems with our drag. A big thanks to everyone involved getting that problem fixed. It looks like the weather will continue to stay mild for the next few days. We will continue to groom and do what we can do make your ride more enjoyable. I was out on the trails yesterday and the trails were great! Thanks Groomers! Be aware that groomers can be out at any time of the day or night and take all directions from the groomer. Stay on marked trails! Remember to be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride.

Snowmobile Trails

Red Arrow Snowmobile ATV Club (Townsend) –  1/28/20

All of our trails are in very good to excellent riding condition, except between intersections 510 & 512.

Paul Bunyan Riders Snowmobile Club (Lakewood) –  1/27/20

Groomers were out Sunday night. Took some doing getting them smoothed out after Sunday’s traffic in the warm weather. Still plenty of snow but it’s getting to warm before they set up. We will continue to groom nightly.

Chute Pond Snowmobile Club (Mountain) – 1/26/20

hute Pond Snowmobile Club trails are open, groomed on a regular basis, and in good to very good condition on the NST (RR grade from Suring to INT#605) and all trails west of the NST. There is a Park & Ride adjacent to the trail on the north side of Main St (Hwy 32) in Suring, which is our southernmost access point. The wooded trails to Boulder Lake, Animal’s, the Mountain Lakes trail to Halfway Bar, and the 18 Corridor west of the NST are all in good to very good condition. The wooded trails east of the NST are in good “early season” condition, which means there will be some bumps, dips, and ruts to deal with as the groomers continue to work on the trails. The 18 Corridor east of the NST is a nice ride all the way to Crooked Lake. Be aware of a water hole/icy spot between Nelligan Lake Rd and Crooked Lake- you’ll need to go around the edge of that spot. On our eastern trails, watch for possible slushy and/or wet/icy/rough frozen areas.

The trail from INT#472 (at Old 64) north to INT#455 (18 Corridor) has re-opened. Please use extra caution in this area as it will not be groomed for a while as we wait for the ice under the snow to develop more. The previous water hole will be icy, so go slow through that area.

Exceptions: Trails that will remain closed indefinitely are from INT#451-INT#453 (from east of Hwy 32 behind the Junction to Jack Pine Rd), and from INT#447 north to the 18 Corridor trail near Cooked Lake (the northern pipeline trail). DO NOT ride the closed trails- they have not been cleared from the July wind storms because the swamps are still wet and have not allowed equipment to get in to work on those areas yet. The closed areas are tangles of fallen trees in a swampy area- you don’t want to go there.

Cautions for the entire season: Be aware that any off-trail riding- even to take one ski off to “grab a little loose snow”- could be dangerous. The July wind storms have devastated many areas of our forested trails, and there are many trees and limbs on the ground just off the edges of the groomed trails. Please stay safe- stay on the groomed trails. Riders are urged to reduce speed and ride with extra caution, as the forest and the trails look very different since the storm. There are numerous logging operations that will be ongoing throughout the season. Please use extra caution in these areas. No Chute Pond trails cross any lakes or rivers- use extreme caution on all frozen surfaces. You are encouraged to carry a portable hand saw if possible, since limbs and branches continue to fall onto and over the trails. Please- ride sober, stay to the right, and stay on the marked trails.

Bagley & Brazeau Joyriders – 1/28/20

The trails are getting soft due to the frost coming out of the ground, this week. We do have a good base. The trail to Suring is getting thin in spots but very ride able. The marshes and low areas still need time to freeze up, before we can groom, then maybe the end of next week. Where the trails are groomed they are good to very good condition. Pipeline is in fair condition due to ground getting soft.  The groomers will be back on the trails all day Friday.

Gillett Sno ATV Riders – 1/27/20

Trails took a beating this weekend with a lot of traffic and the warm temperatures, we were not able to groom since Friday due to the warm temps. With the way that the weather looks staying below freezing the groomer will be out nightly to try and fix trails and have them set up for good weekday riding and going into next weekend. Please stay on trails and use caution as some trails have water that started to run onto trail near road crossings, Trails look to have held up nicely considering the warm weather.

Oconto Falls Sno-Jokers – 1/25/20 CLOSED.

Lena Sno-Drifters – 1/25/20 CLOSED.

Chase Sno-Chasers – 1/27/20 CLOSED.
