Date of Report: March 10, 2026

Area Report:

Effective immediately, all Bayfield County SNOWMOBILE/ATV/UTV trails are closed for the season.  Last week, trails in the southern half of Bayfield County were closed but the north remained open. Warm weather and rain over the weekend have caused very wet and inconsistent trail conditions in northern Bayfield County.

ATV/UTV trails will re-open when conditions allow as determined by Bayfield County Forestry and Parks. Historically, sometime in May. The Tri-County Corridor and ATV/UTV road routes remain open as usual.

Reporter:snobuddies

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover: Thin

Date of Report: March 9, 2026

Area Report:

With the warm temps we have had this last week and now, the Vilas County trails will temporarily close at 8am on 3/10/26. This allows us to reopen the trails if we receive enough snow. All the clubs will have to go out and pan/inspect their trails before reopening. So, just because it snows, doesn’t mean the trails are open again.

This was a great year with the trails open 81 days. A lot better than the last 2!

General meeting at Bauers Dam on Tuesday evening. The Big Cash Raffle winner will be drawn at the meeting. Hope to see everyone there.

Trail Conditions: Poor

Snow Cover: Dwindling Fast

Date of Report: March 9, 2026

Area Report:

Vilas County has officially announced a TEMPORARY closing of the trails effective 3/10/26 at 8:00 AM.

By calling it temporary, they leave the possibility of reopening if conditions allow for it.  There is some snow forecast this week, but high temps still in the mid to upper 30s.  Not a lot of promise.

If they don’t reopen, thank you to everyone that rode the Barnstormer trails this season.  We greatly appreciate the support you’ve given our club and our local businesses.

Don’t forget about the drawing to give away a 2025 Polaris 650 VR-1!  There is still time to purchase raffle tickets!  The drawing will be held at Sayner Pub on March 14 @ 5:00 PM!

Here are a few statistics going back as far as the 2005/2006 season.  The average number of days the trails have been open is 78, with the longest season being 2012/2013 at 111 days!  This season was 81 days.  The earliest we’ve ever opened is December 9, that was in 2010.  The latest we’ve ever opened was January 17, that was just last season!

Trail Report – : Phelps, Wisconsin – March 6, 2026

Reporter:Phelps Snowmobile Club

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 10″-12″

Date of Report: March 6, 2026

Area Report:

Warm weather and sunshine are not our friends.  Trail conditions have deteriorated this week.  Bare road routes, crossings, and open areas of the trails.  Vilas County is still open.  Good snow can be found in the wooded trail areas.  Even if you are staying in town, trailer a little way can get some good riding conditions. Warm temps and rain tonight will not help either.  Hopefully more snow and cooler temps are coming!

News and Reports:

Please be aware that the hill on Corridor Trail 6 W is very icy and hard to traverse.  Watch the corners as they are very icy.  Stay safe and Ride Right!
