Trail Report – : Phelps, Wisconsin – January 30, 2025

Reporter:Phelps Snowmobile Club

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 5″-8″

Date of Report: January 30, 2025

Area Report:

Trails remain in fair condition. Today’s weather did not help with plenty of sunshine and highs in the low 40’s.  Trails have been groomed but are showing rough patches and plenty of snirt.  2″-4″ are in the forecast for late Saturday night through early Sunday morning.  And it looks like more chances into next week.  Let’s hope they are right.

Trail Report – : Bayfield County, Wisconsin – January 30, 2025

Reporter:BayfieldCounty

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 3-6

Date of Report: January 30, 2025

Area Report:

Conditions are variable throughout the county ranging from Poor to Good.

The warm temps this week have really deteriorated trails that were previously in Fair condition.  Trail conditions vary drastically throughout the county. Snow is more plentiful in the north; the more inland you go, the more snow there is.

Dual use trails: we ask that AVT/UTV’s do not travel on groomed trails when the temps are above or around freezing. Ruts left in the trail in these low snow conditions will be near impossible to remove. Please use good judgment when out riding your ATV/UTV in these conditions.

Trail closures: Closures in Drummond and White River areas are due to low snow conditions and private property concerns. Do not go around “Trail closed” signs.

Wisconsin’s Northwoods is the best overall place in North America for SNOWMOBILE TRAIL RIDING and FAMILY SNOWMOBILING, according to the readers of Snow Goer magazine. In addition to winning the BEST TRAIL AREA and BEST AREA CATERING TO FAMILIES categories, the Northwoods tied for second with the Yellowstone area in the voting for Best Overall Snowmobiling Area.

Situated on the edge of THE LARGEST OF THE GREAT LAKES, Lake Superior, Bayfield County, Wisconsin is home to 433,582 acres of public land that provide endless trails for snowmobilers. We have over 600 miles of groomed trails along with over 1000 miles of ungroomed forest roads for your riding pleasure. Our annual average snowfall is 73 inches.

Trail Report – : Conover, Wisconsin – January 30, 2025

Reporter:snobuddies

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 3-5″

Date of Report: January 30, 2025

Area Report:

We groomed our entire system on Wednesday night. We both went out thinking we would just hit the middles for humps, and inspect the trail system for down trees and signs. Surprisingly, the trails panned in fairly well. There are a few corners that are bare, along with a few road crossings. But overall, the trails looked fair to good. Thursday is going to be a warm day, if we can survive this one day warm up, trails should be good. More snow is in the forecast for Saturday.

News and Reports:

Trail 12 from the RR grade TIN 732 to County K TIN 731 has ruts from ATVs. There isn’t enough snow to fill the ruts. We put signs at each end of the trail for Caution Next 1 mile and Rough Trail. Use caution when traveling this area.

The Cemetery Trail from TIN 724 to TIN 725, and south to TIN 727 at Church Rd is thin for snow cover. You will find a few bare spots, There is a hill between TIN 725 and TIN 726 at Lindberg Rd that was bare from sleds going up it. The swamp area did freeze up, so it is good to go.

Trail Report – : Boulder Junction, Wisconsin – January 30, 2025

Reporter:boulderwi

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 1-4″

Date of Report: January 30, 2025

Area Report:

At 8:00 am it is 20 degrees out with sunny skies and a high of 40 degrees for the day and a
chance of light snow on Saturday.
We groomed 15N/6E Monday pm, 15S/11 Tuesday am, 8W Tuesday pm, and 2W Wednesday
pm. All these trails were rough prior to going out grooming.
Our trails are in fair to poor conditions with a 1”- 4” base with some icy patches, and dirt and
gravel is starting to come through our base. Our road trails are in good condition and our road
and town routes still have enough packed snow on them. This will probably change after todays
high temp near 40 and the sun being out.
The entire county is in need of snow and some clubs have discontinued grooming until we get
some substantial snow.
Look for an updated trail report on Monday, February 3rd .

Trail Report – : Hurley, Wisconsin – January 30, 2025

Reporter:hurley@hurleywi.com

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 4″

Date of Report: January 30, 2025

Snowmobile Information:

The snow was very sticky tonight as the temperature was rising. Unfortunately the predicted high for today is in the 40s. With any luck, the 5″ of new snow we received in Oma this morning,, will hold up for colder days this weekend. We groomed trails to the Island and Pine Lake areas tonight, and to Hurley this morning. Grooming operations will cease today with the warmer temperatures, and will start again on Friday. Please stay on the trails, control your speed with the changing conditions, and have fun!
We were lucky enough to see Dave from Snowmobile Wisconsin TV tonight, who said our trails have been good considering conditions aren’t like normal seasons. We thank him for visiting our slice of Iron County trails.

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 2-6

Date of Report: January 29, 2025

Snowmobile Information:

OK, I was going to wait until Thursday, but with the MS riders moving in, I figured I’d bump up a day. We’ve had a few light puffy one to 2 inch snows that look good in a snow globe but don’t amount to a lot, but it’s enough to put a smile on the trail in spots.  It really helped with the road access that I use  to get out to Stearns Lake.I rode them the last two days and it’s doable. Just need to pick the right areas. 17 is suspect out in the sun, but good in the woods. Raven Lake area is good. Our lakes are amazing. Just watch the heaves on fence. Today vice president Ken took Matt and I from Flambeau Lake up to trail 23 which is River Road. It was an amazing ride up to 182. Just make sure you don’t have Wimpy carbides. I stopped at the Tacklebox on Flambeau Lake. He was not open until tomorrow Thursday, at least the bar part, but it’s good to know that they have fuel right there on shore. Really nice guy. Met a group of MS riders at Harrison’s that are planning their rides. They are looking forward to the Northern Hornshoe lunch on Friday.TTFN Mark

❄️ Trail Report as of 1.29.2025 ❄️

Mercer Sno-Goers:
All groomers are out tonight making those trails flat before the warm up coming Thursday. Trails are thin, icy in spots, and rocks showing. Conditions vary from fair to poor but are rideable. We are still in early season riding conditions. Please slow down out there, everybody’s safety should always be on your mind.

Silent Sports Reports:
MECCA Trails:
Mercer picked up two inches of lake effect snow early this morning. Groomers are out setting track and laying down corduroy on the skate lanes. Surface is a bit soft.

Winman Trails:
SKI: Crew was out early this morning regrooming the entire system after about an inch of new snow yesterday. Not that amount we were hoping for, but still nice to receive a fresh layer and groom the entire system.
Joel was out on Tuesday with the leveling drag continuing to make minor adjustments as we can with any new snow to provide the best skate deck possible. Total base is 4-5 inches so not a lot of depth to work with but happy to have full coverage and “A Ski” conditions.
Overall very good to excellent ski conditions today and the temperature is almost ideal. Get out and enjoy.

FAT BIKE: All fat bike trails were groomed Monday morning. There is about an inch of new snow on top of a firm base. We are going to hold off on grooming until Friday. That way any ice that may form on Thursday during warm conditions can get reconstituted with the snow.
Plan is to temporarily close the fat bike trail system on Thursday at 11am and reopen at 5pm. This will protect the base and prevent ruts with the warm, sunny weather on Thursday afternoon.

SNOWSHOE: Snowshoe trails are open and will be a great option. Snowshoes are required. Remember, we offer free to borrow snowshoe in the chalet if you need.

SLEDDING: Sledding hill is open and in great condition. As always, parents please monitor your kids if they are on the sledding hill for everyone’s safety.
