Winter Snowmobile and All-Season Trails (As of 2/28/2020)

Currently, ALL of Douglas County trails are open. As temperatures start to warm up, please watch for trail closures in the updates. Please note, deer have been reported on trails, so please keep an eye out while traveling.

PLEASE check the trail you intend to use is open and do not trespass on private property. It is critical that we respect the landowners who allow us to utilize their property.  It just takes one owner to deny the use of their land for a trail to be permanently shut down, so please be courteous and wait for the trails to officially open.

The following all-season trails are currently open to ATV, UTV, and Snowmobiles:

Snowmobile Trails

Red Arrow Snowmobile ATV Club (Townsend) –  2/28/20

he groomer’s were out last night shaving the ice to hopefully provide some cooling snow for engines and slides. Cooling has been a problem in recent days because all the snow has frozen down, it really worked yesterday as we were able to shave up a layer of snow off the frozen trail. The season may be growing short.  Temps dropped throughout the week, then warm into the weekend. The trails should remain fine in VERY GOOD RIDING CONDITION, though icy with a few bare spots starting to show up!! throughout our system, except between intersections 510 & 512, which I would  rate as marginal riding condition, with much dirt starting to reappear.

Paul Bunyan Riders Snowmobile Club (Lakewood) –  2/26/20

All 3 groomers were out last night. Trail boss Bob Prasser reported lot of bare spots and lot of ice. We always give you a honest trail condition report and without a significant amount of snow this might be the last weekend of grooming.  Please be careful on the corners and hills. Swamps are starting to break up

Chute Pond Snowmobile Club (Mountain) – 2/26/2020

Chute Pond Snowmobile Club trails are open, groomed on a regular basis, and in fair to very good condition. Most trails east of Hwy 32 are in fair to good condition and the snowcover is thin. Most trails west of Hwy 32 are in good to very good condition, with a flat, hardpacked trail. The warm weather has caused some bare/burned out spots, and the melting has caused some slushy/icy areas. Our team of groomers will continue to work the trails to keep them in the best condition possible. The season is not over- there are still many miles of great trails to ride- there are just some ugly spots here and there. Some fresh snow would help improve the trails, but that may not happen. This may be the last weekend with really nice trail conditions- next week the warm weather returns.

NEW DETOUR: There is a new detour route from INT#447 that runs north and west and intersects with the 18 Corridor trail at Riverview Rd (see map- detour is shown in red). Thank you to the Towns of Mountain and Riverview for allowing the use of the unplowed town roads to complete this detour. The detour route is groomed and marked.

Exceptions (see map): Trails that will remain closed indefinitely are from INT#451-INT#453 (from east of Hwy 32 behind the Junction to Jack Pine Rd), and from INT#447 north to the 18 Corridor trail near Cooked Lake (the northern pipeline trail). DO NOT ride the closed trails- they have not been cleared from the July wind storms because the swamps are still wet and have not allowed equipment to get in to work on those areas yet. The closed areas are tangles of fallen trees in a swampy area- you don’t want to go there.

Cautions for the entire season: Be aware that any off-trail riding- even to take one ski off to “grab a little loose snow”- could be dangerous. The July wind storms have devastated many areas of our forested trails, and there are many trees and limbs on the ground just off the edges of the groomed trails. Please stay safe- stay on the groomed trails. Riders are urged to reduce speed and ride with extra caution, as the forest and the trails look very different since the storm. There are numerous logging operations that will be ongoing throughout the season. Please use extra caution in these areas. No Chute Pond trails cross any lakes or rivers- use extreme caution on all frozen surfaces. You are encouraged to carry a portable hand saw if possible, since limbs and branches continue to fall onto and over the trails. Please- ride sober, stay to the right, and stay on the marked trails.

Bagley & Brazeau Joyriders – 2/28/20

The trails took a hard hit from the sun and the heavy traffic last weekend, but they are still ride able. The groomers are working hard again, to give you at least 1 more weekend to ride. The trails are fair to very good condition. The best trails are the west side of Parkway Rd. We are not grooming in some of the marshes and low areas again, also watch for icy spots.

Gillett Sno ATV Riders – 2/24/20

With warmer weather the and no good snow in the near future we are going to have to close the spur off trails from the Nicolet State Trail.  The corners in the trails that run through the fields are beginning to become mud puddles.  The Nicolet State Trail will still be open from Shawano Line Road to Suring.

Oconto Falls Sno-Jokers – 2/28/20

CLOSED.

Lena Sno-Drifters – 2/26/20

Open.

Chase Sno-Chasers – 2/28/20

CLOSED.

Area Report:

With the season winding down this may be one of our last trail reports. Right now the trails are in fair to good condition. Routes on most roads are not advised and road crossings are bare. If you stay on the trails in the woods you won’t be disappointed. With temperatures warming up next week and no snow in the forecast this could possibly be the last good weekend to ride so make your plans and get up here!

Date of Report: February 28, 2020

Area Report:

Official Trail Report:  All Washburn County Snowmobile Trails are open at this time. Trail conditions are good with an  8 to 12 inch compacted snow base.  Caution is advised due to patchy ice conditions throughout the trail system. Due to recent warm temperatures, some logging activities have resulted in stretches of trail with little or no snow.

Groomer Notes (Please note: groomers are typically out on the trails daily, however, WCTA does not always receive an updated report directly from the groomer.)

2/24/20 – Trail 7a/140 were groomed today; overall they are in pretty good shape, the trails are hard pack with icy stretches. The groomer is only able to cut so deep with all the ice. Be aware of moguls, but overall trails are in pretty good shape (Submitted by Rolling Hills Snowmobile & ATV Club)

2/20/20 – The snowmobile trail on Long Lake was freshly groomed on February 19th after we received 5+ inches of snow!  (Reported by Pioneer on Long Lake & Long Lake Chamber)

A great weekend of riding is coming up. Near perfect temperature’s are expected. The entire Phelps trail system was groomed last night. Trails are solid which makes it a challenge to get them smooth. We’ve picked up a small dusting of snow which should help with cooling and lubercation.  Please ride safe. Corners will be icy so sloiw up coming into them. Enjoy the great Northwoods.

Area Report:

Trail report for February 28, 2020 – Trails are fair to good overall. The present temp is 10 above zero and sunny. The last couple of days has been mostly cloudy with cooler temps. This has really saved our good conditions. We have been grooming and the trails have been turning out rather nice with the little snow we have. With the increase in traffic over the weekend and the warmer temps possibly in the 40’s the trails could degrade very quickly. The good conditions may not last very long. We will have to wait and see. The corners and other areas are getting bare and very icy. Road routes and crossing may be very bare. Please use caution! Remember to be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride.

We invite you to take a trip and see all that Price County has to offer.

****There is a reroute on Trail 120 that will be in effect all season. The reroute is on the Northern section that eliminates the old 120 trail from FR 519 to the intersection of 120 and 121. Reroute takes you NW up FR519 to Sheep Ranch to FR522 then connects to 101. This eliminates a very bad part of the swamp.****

2/26/2020 Northwoods Hi-Riders

Trails in the Solberg Lake and Phillips area continue to be in Very Good condition and are being groomed. The freezing temps at night are helping to maintain the base. Some bare spots are beginning to show in open areas, and road crossings are bare. Brushing operations continue on Trail 141 and 102 around Solberg Lake, so be on the lookout. There is still plenty of good riding left, so don’t hesitate to get out there. Slow Down, Ride Safe.

Our trails are still being groomed twice a week and most are in good to excellent condition.  On trail 90 there is a power company working on updating power poles.  Use extreme caution.  That part of the trail is in poor condition.

2/25/2020 Prentice Bushbenders

Trails held up pretty well through the warm weather and sun. Roads, areas with dirty snow and bare spots were effected the most. These areas are deteriorating fast. The trails are still in overall good condition. Warm weather returns all next week with temps in the upper 30’s so get out and ride while we still can. Grooming operations will be determined on a day to day basis next week so be aware that the groomer could be out at anytime of the day or night. Have fun and be safe.

2/25/2020 Fifield Sno Drovers

The trails conditions in the Pike Lake area are from good to excellent.   Trail 101/10 between Pike Lake and Oneida County is getting a bit bare due to the heavy traffic and our lack of new snow.  The rest of the trails are still in very good to excellent condition and are being groomed regularly, although we have had to skip a couple of runs this weekend due to the warm weather.  The strong sun has melted some of the snow on routes that run on roads leaving bare spots and much ice.  Take great care if you decide to travel the roads and keep your speeds down.

2/19/2020 Driftsplitters

Driftsplitters trails are in excellent shape. The warm weather will not have much effect on the trails. Go riding have fun and be safe. We still have a logging operation in progress on trail 94 about 2 miles north of intersection 99. March 1st 8am to Noon Driftsplitters Potato Pancake breakfast at Happy Daze on trail 181 between Kennan and Catawba.
