As you explore the trails in Sawyer County, you’ll notice Association of Wisconsin Snowmobile Clubs signs along the way.  Don’t just zoom past–stop and snap a selfie with it.  If you post on Facebook or Instagram with #seldsawyer2020 you will be entered into a drawing!
There will be three winners chosen on March 3, 2021
$500 goes to the best photo submitted
$250 goes to two random selected entries

Area Report:

Welcome back as we start a new season, we are making good ice now , most lakes have around 4-5 inches in most areas so unlike last year where we had a foot of snow on top of 2 inches of ice at this time and you had to go around the lakes. We have little snow on the ground and a few clippers coming in but not anything major for a week. Will keep hoping for snow and keep you updated if anything changes, time for you folks to start snowdancing.

The entire Langlade County (Zones A & B) funded snowmobile trail system is closed until there is adequate snowfall.

Trails in Eagle River & All of Vilas County CLOSED

Very cold & clear this morning!  19 for a high today.  Terrific for ice building & keeping the swamps frozen.  Now what we need is SNOW!!!!

Vilas County Forestry, Recreation & Land department has completed 10 of the 11 snowmobile club inspections.  Once all are done it’s a waiting game ’til the SNOW gets here.

A few updates on the trails:

Trail 13 that heads west of Eagle River has a re route in the section that comes out on Oak Lane by the Pine Gables Restaurant.  There is new construction going on so the club has done a temporary move over of the trail.  The club is working with the Vilas Forestry, Recreation and Land department to complete the permanent re route which will be in place for the 2021-2022 season.  If you are familiar with that trail rather than the 2 corners at the west end by Oak Lane it will go straight ahead.  TRAIL WILL BE OPEN.

The best new is the lake spur off of the Eagle Lake Trail that takes you to Eagle Waters Resort is back open!!!  The owner Laura Koranda & adjacent landowners worked hard to make this happen.

Lake Effect SNOW over night
DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE?
Trails in Eagle River & All of Vilas County CLOSED

Lake Effect SNOW over night! Maybe an inch. Weather guys say a bit more today!  A start.  Night time temps have been for the most part in the teens freezing swamps & building ice on the lakes.  Report of 4 inches of ice on Eagle Lake. 

Vilas County Forestry, Recreation & Land department trail inspections continue. Don continues his inspections everyday. Will be complete this week. Then it’s a waiting game for SNOW & conditions.  There is a Vilas County Snowmobile Alliance meeting this Wednesday & trail conditions will be discussed.

All the hunts are now finally over.  Swamps are freezing & so are the lakes.  Just need more SNOW.

We received approximately 3 inches of wet snow yesterday.The county hasn’t certified the trails yet , so we have to pray the  weather stays cold to keep it for a good base. Stay tuned for updates. RR
