Boulder Junction Trail Report 2/1/2021
Our trails received substantial traffic this weekend. Our groomers were out every day this past weekend trying to keep our trails rideable. At this point, we desperately need more snow to improve our trails.
We are out grooming today with 8W, 51, and 2W groomed early this morning and 8E being groomed late morning. The balance will be groomed later today.
Generally all our trails are very thin with icy corners, and quite a few brown snirty sections. Our trails range from fair to good, but our road trails are still very good to excellent.
When passing through town whether you are on Corridor 8 or Corridor 15, please use the marked trails, follow the signs, and observe the 15 mph speed limit. Also, no snowmobiles are allowed on downtown Main Street.
We are watching a possible moderate to heavy snowfall predicted for late Thursday into Friday followed by cold temps for the weekend. If this happens, our trails finally should be in great shape.
If riding in our area, ride safe, respect others, and have a great time!
Trail advisory: If riding on the Boulder Junction airport spur trail, please stay on the edge of the runway parallel to the road in both directions. Damage has been done to the runway and if it continues, we could potentially lose access to this trail.
Speed Limit advisory: We have received numerous complaints from residents in town that sledders are speeding on marked snowmobile routes through town and are riding off the marked routes. When riding on town roads adhere to maximum speed of 15mph.
Think snow!

Official Trail Report: All Washburn County Snowmobile Trails are open at this time. Trail conditions are fair with a 4 to 6 inch snow base. Trail conditions do vary right now due to lack of snowfall. A fresh snow is needed to upgrade our conditions from fair to excellent. Lake ice conditions are not completely safe at this time so please ride with caution. Clubs are out grooming the trails, so please aware and watch for active trail grooming and trail maintenance. Fingers crossed for a good snowfall to get the trails in great conditions!
Reported by the Long Lake Chamber of Commerce: The lake was last groomed on January 24th after receiving 2 to 3 inches of light powdery snow.

Trail Conditions: Fair
Snow Cover: couple of inches
Date of Report: February 1, 2021
Area Report:
The trails are in fair condition with a few “good” areas. The club has been out grooming regularly. There are some good areas – mainly on the trails that incorporate the forest roads (smooth base). Most of the trail system is “fair” due to the uneven terrain and frozen swampy areas. There is enough to ride, just lower the expectations of conditions due to minimal base.
All lakes are marked and are good to go.
More snow is expected later this week. This could be a well needed boost to the base.

Groomers were out last night grooming. The “grade” through town, alt13/3S to Three Lakes, 70W to St. Germain and 17S to Sugar Camp were groomed. Suggest buying a Sno-Eagles trail map to help with location of trails.
All in all trails are in pretty good shape. Ranking them Fair to Good. There was a fair amount of traffic this weekend so that impacts them. 10E is snow covered but has a lot of traffic. The section between Bloom Rd & Loon Lk Rd that is tree covered is thin. South to Three Lake is pretty good. West to St. Germain connect on trail 70W & south to Sugar Camp connect on 17S should be better as it was groomed last night. Heading north 10/13N is Fair. Was groomed several times this past week & has improved. 10W & both 7’s are Fair to Good.
Been writing this all season but off trail riding continues to be a problem throughout Vilas county. What this is doing is jeopardizing trail easements & will cause trail section closures. Please once again stay on marked trails.
Catfish & Eagle Lake trails are marked with orange reflective barrels. Please stay by the barrels to be safe. The lakes are marked by the businesses on the lake so stop in & thank them when you’re out riding.
ONEIDA COUNTY trails are now OPEN. Report is that all lakes are marked. Be sure to stay be the markers & do not cross an unmarked lake trail.
Three Lakes Trails club was able to get the trails in Forest County they groom open. REST OF FOREST COUNTY IS NOT OPEN

An additional 8-10″ fell throughout the county over the weekend. Trails are about as good as you can get for our area. Some spots may be getting bumpy from drifting and traffic but groomers should be out this week! More snow forecasted for Thursday. Enjoy the ride!

Snowmobile Information:
This morning when I got up there was about 3″ of fresh snow on the ground. Hardly enough to have much of an impact but it was welcomed. I rode with a group based out of Fence Lake area Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Amazing rides for how thin the base is. Hug your groomer operators. They are working miracles with not much material.Trail 17 is thin to OK in spots – a lot of rock picking. Trail 1 up Stearns Lake Road is snow covered, but not a lot loose for lubrication. Fence Lake is well marked and nice riding. Heavier traffic Friday and Saturday, but you can tell people are taking advantage of the heavy snows south. One of our group was due to stay up until Thursday and chose to head home to Beloit to ride his home trails as they got whacked again last night. John Dee is predicting some heavy stuff for next weekend. Lets hope it happens. Wolf
