GTS Trails app shows groomers out in the last 24 hours

Trail Groomers were out again last night heading north & northwest.   Trails GROOMED are:

  • 10/13 heading north from the Groomer Barn located on Hwy 45N by the  Holiday North Gas Station all the way to the Conover trail connect
  • Turning onto 10/13 & grooming over the Wisconsin River snowmobile bridge
  • On the west side of the 10 heads west & 13 heads north – both ALL groomed
  • 10 & 7 join & 7 was also groomed to the Sayner/St. Germain trails

Best way to learn the trails is to buy a Sno-Eagles trail map. It also has the entire Vilas county trails on the backside.  Plus download the GTS trails app  It is available at the App Store.

It looks like we are heading into the “Adventure Sledding” part of the season. 10E is fine heading east on the south side of the road.  On the north side heading back into to town has burn throughs. Same with open areas on 70W.  More ice in the corners with some having heavy snirt.

Overnight SNOW did not produce totals as promised.  Maybe 2 inches+ when it stops SNOWING this around 8am.  Night time temps will drop starting tonight. Overnight temps starting tonight through the at least the next week will be in the teens to single digits.  This will hold the trails.  Need ya to THINK COLD for during the day.  Next SNOW is Sunday.  Stay tuned.

Please stay on the trails to keep them trails open.  Lots of off trail riding is causing a lot of problems.    Done preaching.

Catfish & Eagle Lake trails are marked with orange reflective barrels. Drifting on Catfish.  Watch for ice fishing holes on both lakes. The lakes are marked by the businesses on the lake so stop in & thank them when you’re out riding.

Ride it while we got it.  SEE YA ON THE TRAILS!

Trail Report – : Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin – February 23, 2021

Reporter:Toulish1

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: Fair to “yikes”

Date of Report: February 23, 2021

Snowmobile Information:

I apologize for a delay in my report. Last week Tuesday and Wednesday, I ran with Craig and Jill in Eagle River, as they had points to burn on a time share, good conditions. Then I was forced to abandon my post, and retreat south due to my position being overrun by women with cookbooks and at least (4) garbage bags of wine. I was allowed back into the county yesterday, and had to work on my furnace. Today I went on drive about. Trail 15, the grade, suspect. It’s brown. Last week we waited until 10:00 for it to warm up to zero, and today I saw a kid running on Stearns Lake road bare chested at 42 degrees. Stearns Lake is good on the south end, but up toward boundary trail it gets bald. Boundary Trail is thin. The trail along F has snow in the ditch, but unless you and your carbides are not friends, avoid the asphalt. I did what every reporter does, and went public. I met three guys at Black Bear, that said the same thing – good snow in woods yet, but bare where the sun gets at the trail, and avoid the asphalt trails. We are due for snow tonight, so lets hope for something good! Wolf

Trail Report – : Walworth County, Wisconsin – February 23, 2021

Reporter:Ryan Strand

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover: 12-18″

Date of Report: February 23, 2021

Area Report:

Trails are CLOSED as of 6AM this morning.  Today’s weather is going to hurt big time 45F and full sun in late February generally doesn’t fair well for wide open fields and a lot of road crossings.   The next 5-6 days sees fairly warm weather as well with no new snow.   Let’s hope this isn’t it for the year but right now it doesn’t look promising.  Yes the trails look nice right now but please stay off they are closed!   We need to protect our landowners property from any damage so we can continue to use their property well into the future.  If things turn around in the coming weeks we will report back.

Thank you.

Trail Report – : Sayner, Wisconsin – February 23, 2021

Reporter:SaynerStar Lake Barnstormers

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: Minimal

Date of Report: February 23, 2021

Area Report:

Riding reports over the past weekend were very good, even as the temps began to rise.

We are still grooming nightly.  Since we are not always able to hit our entire system every night, we’re usually getting to each trail at least every other night.  We’ve received a couple fresh inches of snow since Sunday and that has helped clean up some of the snirt.  It is still very dry and not packing well.  There is supposed to be another 2-4″ coming overnight tonight.  With the warmer temps, this “should be” a much needed wet snow!  Frankly, 2″ of wet snow does us more good than 10″ of fluff.  With temps expected to drop below freezing for the next couple days, we should hang on to some really good riding conditions!

I still maintain that 70% of our system is in very good condition, with some sections being excellent (the northern parts of trails 51 and 7).  20% is good condition, and 10% (mainly closer to towns) is fair.  This forecasted snow should improve these conditions.

The portage between Plum and Star lakes was groomed last night and left in very good condition.  Of course, this trail gets pounded with traffic, so it’s hard to say how long it will stay good.  Again, this is NOT a funded trail and our club DOES NOT get compensated for grooming it, which is why it doesn’t get groomed as often as the rest of our system.

  • Logging operations are continuing throughout the northwoods and in many areas where snowmobile trails are located.  Loggers have first priority!  PLEASE be respectful of them and make every attempt to stay out of their way.  DO NOT engage with them.  Loggers have a legal right to close any snowmobile trail where they are working.  They are being cooperative with the clubs and working with us the best they can.  PLEASE do not give them reason to close the trails.
  • Hintz’s North Star Lodge is currently closed.  Therefore, we have closed the trail leading to their establishment.  If and when they are open for business, we will reopen that trail.  Please respect them by not riding across their property.

Thank you for your patience and support.  Ride Right and Stay Safe!

A bit warmer this week, but trails will hold up just fine through it and we will have another great week and weekend of riding! We’ll update again closer the the weekend!

‼️Attention‼️ Right off of County Hwy F Enbridge is doing some work and had some equipment that is stuck on the trail off of Hwy F in Stone Lake. The trail is closed and there is equipment out there and it will have to be out there until the equipment is removed and the area restored. They are putting up safety fencing and lights. Thank you.
