Boulder Junction Trail Report 3/8/2021

Well, our season is coming to an end. Vilas County Snowmobile Trails will close today at 11:59 P.M.,

We were fortunate to get the snow last week that extended our season for a week. We continuously groomed up through this past Saturday night.

We would like to thank everyone that visited our area and supported our businesses and the Boulder Junction Snowmobile Club.

Also, we would like to thank all of our volunteers that helped prepare our trails this fall and all of our groomer drivers that groomed around the clock this season.

If you are in our area on Saturday, April 24th, please stop in and support our club at our last fundraiser of the year. Our Cabin Fever fundraiser will be held at Gooch’s 2 from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M.,

See you next year!

Area Report:

Well folks, the fat lady has been standing at the microphone clearing her throat for the past week.  Now she has finally started singing.  The Vilas county snowmobile trails will officially close Monday, March 8 at 11:59 pm.

While it was a short season, it was not the shortest!  This season we were open for 66 days, but the 2010/2011 season was only open 65 days!  FYI, my records go back 16 seasons and longest season was 111 days.  The average is 84 days.

I want to send out a big thank you to all of our map sponsors and pit stops.  Without you, we wouldn’t exist.  And, of course, thank you to everyone who rides our trails and supports our sponsors!

See you next season!!

Tomorrow morning the Vilas County Forestry, Rec & Land Department will post the official PSA announcing the closure of snowmobile trails in Vilas County with date & time. This following a majority vote by the 11 member clubs of the Vilas County Snowmobile Alliance.

Announcement from Howard Wolf, President of the Sno-Eagles Snowmobile Club:
“We have pulled the plug on grooming for the season.”  “Thank you to everyone for your support to the Sno-Eagles Snowmobile Club.”

End of season riding in much of the Sno-Eagles, Eagle River trails.  While trails are open it is “Adventure Sledding” with all conditions.  Trail 10W/13N that runs through town amazingly is still covered with thin crusty snow.  The one mile section 10E/Alt13 that heads south out of town is still in GOOD condition.  Heading south at the intersection on Alt13 is FAIR at best with POOR in the wide open areas.  10E has all sorts of conditions. FAIR, POOR & even some GOOD.  The one way trail on south side of Hwy 70E heading east has the best conditions.  The north side one way heading west for the most part is POOR & has many bare areas or water.  Heading north & west out of town will be the best better but except more & more POOR.  Avoid wide open areas as much as possible.

Catfish & Eagle Lake trails will be removed today Sunday on Catfish Lake. Sunday or Monday on Eagle Lake.

If you are going to ride do it today!

Area Report:

7:02– am Currently 7 – High 36
Trails FAIR to POOR in open areas
Some GOOD to FAIR in wooded areas
Trails in all of Vilas County are OPEN
GTS Trails app shows groomers out in the last 24 hours

Grooming continues out of town section north & northwest.  They are:

Trail 10/13 in town – Heading North from Groomer Barn ALL of 13N, 10W & 7N EXCEPT Trail 13C one-way trail as you near Bauer’s Dam Buckatabon Lake area.
Trail 3N aka Manske Swamp which is the connect between Trail 10/13 & 17N
Trail 17N
If you haven’t bought a trail map click here to get one. Sno-Eagles  Or download or go to GTS Trails which shows grooming in the last 24, 48 & 96

Trail riding is still out there but it may take some endurance to get there or might want to trailer to locations to find the SNOW.  Trails 10W/13N beyond the intersection west of the WI River crossing has SNOW.  Might consider trailering up to Bauer’s Dam & riding south & west on 10W/13N from there.  OR trailering to either the ERRA Sports Arena east of Eagle River on Hwy 70E.  Trail 10E is a one way trail on both sides of Hwy 70E.  The southside is in covered to beyond MJ’s Wayside.  Then heading toward Three Lakes. Road route sections are patched with ice or bare.  End of season riding.

No off trail riding please.

Catfish & Eagle Lake trails are marked with orange reflective barrels.  Deep surface slush on both lakes. Plus some ice fishing holes near the trail.

For me sledding is done for the season.
