Trail Report – : Conover, Wisconsin – February 8, 2025

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 5-8”

Date of Report: February 8, 2025

Area Report:

We groomed the entire system on Thursday night. Some areas covered good, others were thin on snow. We also cleared some down branches along the way. Thank you to the sledders that stopped and cleared some along the way too. It is appreciated.

It is snowing today, looks like 2-3” of a wet heavier snow. We are planning on going out tonight to do what we can with this new snow. Temps are supposed to drop and stay cold next week with a chance of more snow Friday and Saturday.

Remember to yield to the groomers. Most I met on Wednesday did just that. Stopped off of trail for me to pass or waited for me to get to a spot where I could pull off. One thought he could ride on side of snow bank past me. Thought he was going to tip sled over and hit the plow on front of groomer. I know I would have won that battle. I was in the process of backing up to a junction where it aloud them room to pass. We will signal by killing lights or flashing brights to signal it is clear to pass. Ride Right, Ride Safe.

News and Reports:

Trail 12 from the RR grade TIN 732 to County K TIN 731 has ruts from ATVs. There isn’t enough snow to fill the ruts. We put signs at each end of the trail for Caution Next 1 mile and Rough Trail. Use caution when traveling this area.

The Cemetery Trail from TIN 724 to TIN 725, and south to TIN 727 at Church Rd is thin for snow cover. You will find a few bare spots, There is a hill between TIN 725 and TIN 726 at Lindberg Rd that was bare from sleds going up it. The swamp area did freeze up, so it is good to go.

To see where the Groomer is at, check out  Groomer Tracker  Half the cost of the app comes back to Conover Sno-Buddies to support grooming operations.

Holy E O Meat Sweats Batman. We had the smoked sampler at Gresham Lodge. They smoke their own meat and they take on Lazy Ace. Wow, good stuff Maynard. OK, so I have about 700 miles in five days. Hornshoe trails are about the same as the last week.Thin, but solid. Watch 17. The rest is good. If you go north, it gets scary. There IS snow, but it is thin, and sugary. PLEASE watch your corners. It is icey. I see a LOT of sleds that are happy to be here, but not experienced with what we have. A LOT of sleds that blow out the corners, and slide across the lane,  and even a lot of blowouts on the roads where they honk on it and the rear end blows out. Wow, a lot of sleds, and traffic, yesterday, and today. GREAT, to see the people, and the business, come in, but take it easy. I am NOT going to talk about the forecast. Ever watch the Muppet Show ? The two old guys in the balcony? ” Waldorf, you old fool, why do you keep telling these people it is going to snow?” ” Because I mess with their minds!” “At least they still have a mind! Hah!” 62 year old body, and a 12 year old mind. I try, but Mother Nature is an ornery beast. Mark

EAGLE RIVER TRAILS
OPEN – Fair to Early Riding
Oneida County opens today at 8am
Forest County open Saturday at 8am

No change in the trail conditions but the weather guys are predicting 2-3 inches of SNOW starting 2am Saturday morning. Snowing off & on Saturday ’til dark.  Sure hope they are right this time.

20’s for highs today & tomorrow then teen or single digits during the day for the next week.  Night time temps will drop below zero Sunday.  Below zero every night for the next week.  So what we have isn’t going anywhere.

GTS Groomer app is a good place to see what was groomed.  Last night nearly a full grooming with the exception of:

  • Trail 10E – this is a one way trail on both side of Hwy 70E.  Heading east on the south side is in good shape from the ERRA Sports arena all the way out.  Heading west back to town has burn through & snirt in spots.  So ride out east & swing over to Phelps or Three Lakes.  Oneida County opened at 8am today.  Forest County opens tomorrow, Saturday at 8am.
  • Heading west out of Eagle River no grooming overnight.
    • Trail 70W toward St. Germain is hard frozen snow base with not much loose snow. Snirt on the high hill just before the connect to St. Germain BoBoen trails
    • Trail 13S that connects to Sugar Camp trails that OPENED at 8am is snow covered for the most part. Few snirty spots.  Pick up a map as there is a re route at the Sugar Camp connect
    • Trail 7 aka Paint Ball Field is snow covered with some light snirt under the pine trees just before the connect with Sugar Camp at Hwy H.  Sugar Camp trails are hard but good.

Catfish Lake & Eagle Lake Trails are marked with orange reflective barrels.  Stay by the barrels as there is no guarantee the rest of the lakes are safe.

With Pond Hockey on Dollar Lake by the Chanticleer Inn trail 1 that crosses Eagle Lake may have congestion.

Special Shout out to Dollar Lake Retreat, Chain Lake Log Lodge – Bayside Rental & the Eagle River Area Chamber for sponsoring the Sno-Eagles Eagle River area SNOW TRACKS Snowmobile Trail report!!!

Trail Report – : Hayward / Sawyer County, Wisconsin – February 6, 2025

Reporter:haywardlakes

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 0-5

Date of Report: February 6, 2025

Area Report:

A general update on some conditions.  There will be more reports to come in the next couple of days as we await the next snowfall.

Our county received 1-3” last night, with most of the county getting 2”.  Over the last 5 days many riders we have spoken to reported to have been pleasantly surprised, but they have stayed mostly on those main trails.  They have reported the Seeley Hills between Lake Namakagon and the Chippewa Flowage as rideable and fair. Some stretches that were good and some stretches that have bare and rocky spots, which is to be expected.

We still need more snow, but trails are rideable, but we need more snow to be able to groom properly.  A few groomers have been out to pull in what they can from the sides and have reported that the new snow has laid down nicely.  More groomers plan to go out tonight and pan. Lake riding has been great and continues to be but use caution as there are still a lot of ice heaves, so please stay on the trails.

We will report back in a few days after our next round of snow.

Trail Report – : Rhinelander, Wisconsin – February 6, 2025

Reporter:Hodag SnoTrails

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: minimal

Date of Report: February 6, 2025

Area Report:

Oneida County Trail system opens on Friday, February 7th @ 8:00 am.  The trail system is in early season condition and rated “poor” at this point.  There has been very little snow to work with.  The club has panned the trails where it makes sense.  There will be sticks, rocks, holes that will be on the trail bed.

I do not recommend any long-distance riding at this point.  If you know the trail system, and can navigate via the forest road trails, railbed trails, or marked lakes, you will have the best chance to trail ride and/or visit a local pitstop.

Hopefully, more snow falls to significantly improve the current conditions.

Lakes should be considered unsafe if they aren’t marked.
