Trail Report – : Antigo/Langlade County, Wisconsin – February 10, 2025

Reporter:langlade

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover: 2-6

Date of Report: February 10, 2025

Area Report:

THE ENTIRE LANGLADE COUNTY SNOWMOBILE TRAIL SYSTEM INCLUDING STATE FUNDED TRAILS ARE SCHEDULED TO OPEN ON WEDNSEDAY FEBRUARY 12th, AT 8:00 A.M.

ATVs are not allowed on snowmobile trails until 10 days after the opening of the snowmobile trails and when the temperature is above 28° F. ATVs will be authorized to utilize snowmobile trails on February 22, 2025. UTVs are not allowed on the Langlade County Snowmobile trail at any time system due to the weight and width of the machines.

The snowmobile clubs and Snowmobile Council authorize the trail opening times based upon their trail preparations and trail conditions. The Snowmobile Council chose to hold off opening until this week to get a more frozen trails base following the Saturday snow. This frozen base will assist in the trails staying safe and maintainable for a longer period, barring any extremely warm weather.

The Langlade County Snowmobile clubs, sponsors, and operators of the existing trails, have put in many volunteered hours brushing, signing, and grooming to provide snowmobile trails for your use. Please support the snow clubs, thank them for their efforts, and patronize their business sponsors.

All lake trails in Langlade County are considered unsafe and should not be utilized until they have been clearly marked by a local snowmobile club. As always, the Langlade County Forestry, Parks & Recreation Department recommends riders stay on clearly marked trails.

The snowmobile clubs spend a considerable amount of time working with landowners to be able to provide the exceptional trail system we have. Please respect private property and the efforts of the clubs to access private property; use of trails across private lands is a privilege. Always exercise caution when riding a snowmobile, the trails are in rough, early-season condition.

For questions regarding specific trail conditions please contact the local snowmobile club or visit their social media accounts or go to www.langladecounty.org/resources/trail-reports/. You may also contact the Forestry, Parks and Recreation at 715-627-6300.

We hope that you enjoy the Langlade County trail system this winter and thank you for supporting the economy and businesses of Langlade County!

We are leaving the conditions as fair.  There is a lot of snirt out there and it will probably be that way the rest of the year.  We are grooming and trying to give you the best experience as we can.  Cold temps forecasted for the rest of the week with not much snow in the forecast.  Please stay on the trails whether they are on land or the lakes.  Ice heave on North Twin which is big to our standards.  Please when out on the trails, slow down and ride sober.  We want you to come back and ride again.

Snowmobile Information:

Phelps is located in northeastern Vilas county, about 15 miles N.E.of Eagle River.in the heart of the Nicolet National Forest. We are away from the hustle and bustle of the mainstream, but not that far.

Corridor trail #6 passes within a block of town. Our trails are said to be the best around by both the locals and our many vistors. These trails will lead you to Eagle River, Conover, Land O’ Lake and the U.P. and Forest county to the east. Our nearly 40 miles of trails meander thru both national and private lands. These trails are groomed with a Sur-Trac by Snow Track.

We have many fine eating establishments (and beverages too) located on our trail system. There are also many motels and resorts to stay at while you are in our area.

Very busy weekend with lots of riders. Amazing what 4-5 inches of new SNOW can do!   Trails have moved to Fair in open areas to Good in woods areas.  As always best riding is out of towns. NEXT SNOW NEXT FRIDAY. Check out what was groomed below.

NOTE: Trail 10E out of Eagle River becomes a one way from the ERRA SPORTS ARENA all the way to Mikes Gas Station.  It runs alone Hwy 70E.  The south side of the trail is ONE WAY going EAST only.  The north side of the trail is ONE WAY going WEST (back to Eagle River). Intersections are clearly marked with ONE WAY trail signs.  Very dangerous to go the wrong way.

As to temps. For the next week day time highs will be in the teens with the exception of next Saturday. Temp bump up to low 20’s & SNOW.  No totals yet. At night single digits tonight & then below zero every night until Saturday when SNOW moves in.

GTS Groomer app is a good place to see what was groomed.  Last night nearly a full grooming listed below are trails NOT Groomed overnight.

  • Trail 10E – this is a one way trail on both side of Hwy 70E.  This includes Trail 1 toward Chanticleer, GrampGrahm that heads to Eagle Waters Resort & 9 mile.  Remember all Counties surrounding Vilas are now open.

Catfish Lake & Eagle Lake Trails are marked with orange reflective barrels.  Stay by the barrels as there is no guarantee the rest of the lakes are safe. Lots of lakes have ice heaves so be safe & stay by the barrels wherever you ride.

Trail Report – : Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin – February 9, 2025

Reporter:Toulish1

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 2-8″

Date of Report: February 9, 2025

Snowmobile Information:

We had about 6″ of snow Saturday. It really helped to bring us back, but there was heavy traffic this weekend, so my report is about where it was. Hornshoe main trails will be groomed today thanks to our neighbors Cruisers and their Piston Bully. I had a check ride today. Groomer Don will groom our club trails tomorrow with our Kubota. Our main grade trail 17, is thin from Mattke Rd, to Frying pan lane, then thin up in the Powell Marsh. Those areas can be bypassed by riding Fence Lake to the south, and taking trail 23, River Rd, off of Flambeau Lake to the north. Raven Lake area is very good with a couple of icey corners. A caution flag goes out in this area if you go off the groomed trail, there is a substantial bank on the edges now. There are also rocks left over from the construction under the snow. Trail 5 into the casino is excellent. Trail 1, Stearns Lake Rd, and East Boundary, was excellent after the snowfall, and marginal at best after plowing. I wish they could leave us some snow on the sides but I understand homeowners squeak louder than snowmobilers. Trail 1 down from 51 to East Boundary was pretty good last night after all the Saturday traffic. With Oneida County open, F trail is getting heavier traffic, better in the woods, worn on some corners, and thinner out in the open. Our whole trail system has an ice base that is holding well where the sun can’t get at it. Lake trails are great.Forecast is for cold temps this week, and small chances of snow each day. I was really impressed with how well we held up, and will probably do an update for the weekend on Thursday. We have our annual Midnite Trail Riders from Champion Wisconsin ride here so Jay and I will need to go reconnoiter a plan of attack where to run them Thursday. Thank You.  Mark

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 5-8”

Date of Report: February 8, 2025

Area Report:

We groomed the entire system on Thursday night. Some areas covered good, others were thin on snow. We also cleared some down branches along the way. Thank you to the sledders that stopped and cleared some along the way too. It is appreciated.

It is snowing today, looks like 2-3” of a wet heavier snow. We are planning on going out tonight to do what we can with this new snow. Temps are supposed to drop and stay cold next week with a chance of more snow Friday and Saturday.

Remember to yield to the groomers. Most I met on Wednesday did just that. Stopped off of trail for me to pass or waited for me to get to a spot where I could pull off. One thought he could ride on side of snow bank past me. Thought he was going to tip sled over and hit the plow on front of groomer. I know I would have won that battle. I was in the process of backing up to a junction where it aloud them room to pass. We will signal by killing lights or flashing brights to signal it is clear to pass. Ride Right, Ride Safe.

News and Reports:

Trail 12 from the RR grade TIN 732 to County K TIN 731 has ruts from ATVs. There isn’t enough snow to fill the ruts. We put signs at each end of the trail for Caution Next 1 mile and Rough Trail. Use caution when traveling this area.

The Cemetery Trail from TIN 724 to TIN 725, and south to TIN 727 at Church Rd is thin for snow cover. You will find a few bare spots, There is a hill between TIN 725 and TIN 726 at Lindberg Rd that was bare from sleds going up it. The swamp area did freeze up, so it is good to go.

To see where the Groomer is at, check out  Groomer Tracker  Half the cost of the app comes back to Conover Sno-Buddies to support grooming operations.

Holy E O Meat Sweats Batman. We had the smoked sampler at Gresham Lodge. They smoke their own meat and they take on Lazy Ace. Wow, good stuff Maynard. OK, so I have about 700 miles in five days. Hornshoe trails are about the same as the last week.Thin, but solid. Watch 17. The rest is good. If you go north, it gets scary. There IS snow, but it is thin, and sugary. PLEASE watch your corners. It is icey. I see a LOT of sleds that are happy to be here, but not experienced with what we have. A LOT of sleds that blow out the corners, and slide across the lane,  and even a lot of blowouts on the roads where they honk on it and the rear end blows out. Wow, a lot of sleds, and traffic, yesterday, and today. GREAT, to see the people, and the business, come in, but take it easy. I am NOT going to talk about the forecast. Ever watch the Muppet Show ? The two old guys in the balcony? ” Waldorf, you old fool, why do you keep telling these people it is going to snow?” ” Because I mess with their minds!” “At least they still have a mind! Hah!” 62 year old body, and a 12 year old mind. I try, but Mother Nature is an ornery beast. Mark
