Reporter:Holly t

Trail Conditions: Open

Snow Cover: Base less than 7 inches – 16 inches snow

Date of Report: February 1, 2022

Area Report:

February 1, 2022 – 7:14am 27 degrees – High of 32 today

The Groomer Tracking System AP (GTS) shows grooms left the Groomer Barn & headed north & northwest on 10W/13N grooming it all.  To include all the 13N loops far north, all of 10W & 7, Wisconsin River section of 10W/13N.  That area has the best snow & riding.

Way to much sun yesterday.  Trails have soften up everywhere.  Best riding in Eagle River is 10W/13N heading north out of Eagle River as it has the most woods cover.  With the sun yesterday & more today trails on the northside of roads, like 10E are very soft with snirt & burn through areas.  Southside of the road trails, like 10E are still fine.  Heading west of Eagle River on 70W trails are Poor & need snow.  Heading south on 17S toward the Sugar Camp trails is still Fair to Good as it is on the west side of the road.  Trail 7 aka Paint Ball Field is Good as it is in the woods.  It comes out at Cty Hwy H near the Kathan Inn.  Heading east on 10E the one that is on the southside is in Good shape.  Heading back to town on the west side 10E which is the northside of the Hwy 70E has snirt, snow & burn throughs.  So ride north for the best trails.

The warm up ends today.  32 today with 2 below tonight. Starting tomorrow for most of the week 10’s or less with double digits BELOW ZERO. Next SNOW on Saturday.  Start Dancin’

Catfish & Eagle lake trails marked & OPEN.  To be safe stay by the orange reflective barrels.  DO NOT think the entire lake is safe.  Several sleds have gone in the water far from the barrels.

Please KEEP DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE!  Trails Need More Fresh SNOW

See ya on the trails!

Trail Report – : Rhinelander, Wisconsin – February 1, 2022

Reporter:Hodag SnoTrails

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: Hanging tough

Date of Report: February 1, 2022

Area Report:

The trails are in overall “good” condition.  There is some variation out there from fair to very good.  I feel comfortable in rating them good overall.  All of the fire lane type trails are very good, snow covered and flat.  The exposed trails (like Trail 8 – along the highway) are thin with snirty areas.  There isn’t enough snow to fill in deep holes so there are some bumps that can’t be filled without pulling all of the base off the trails.  The tight corners are down to the ice base, so be aware of those while riding.

The lakes are all marked and not showing any signs of slush.  There are multiple roads across Boom Lake so use extreme caution when traveling on that route.  The snow cover on the lake is low, so the ice fisherman can travel about anywhere so there can be truck tracks and / or plowed roads in multiple locations.

There is one trail closure on the Hodag Sno-Trails system: Trail H4 from Boom Lake to the intersection just north of River Rd. This is basically the “land” route to not running Boom Lake.  The trail is closed at this point.  We have been just notified that this is a permanent closure.  Running the lake is the reroute.  The club is continuing to look for another “land route” but it takes time and money (unfunded – club trail).

Keep an eye out for grooming activity at anytime.  We continue to double-groom on days we need to for coverage of one of our groomers.  The guys have been keeping up during this spell with a groomer down.  I believe the trail conditions have not suffered at all during this time.

The trails are holding up with the volume of traffic and lack of fresh snow.  We do need fresh snow, but don’t use that as an excuse not to ride.

Get out and have some fun, it’s a limited season in length.

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 2-6″

Date of Report: January 31, 2022

Snowmobile Information:

I will still rate our trails good, but fair is on the horizon. 29 with sun today, and warmer tomorrow. Trail 17, the grade, is like the top of my head – there is hair yet, but it takes a lot of arranging to make it look nice. We need snow. The groomers are trying to pull what they can out towards the middle, especially in the corners in the Raven Lake area. All of the corners are blown out and icey so caution is advised. Trail 5 into the casino is great. 17 north near and at the marsh has little or no snow. People headed north I would still recommend trail 1, Stearns Lake Road to East Boundary trail then hook up with 51. It is thin also but the sleds are working the banks, and I can keep my sled cool and it struggles with thin conditions. We will only groom a couple of times this week, then look at it near the weekend. I ran the whole circuit this afternoon, and it was great riding, just need to be cautious in spots. Mark

EAGLE RIVER TRAILS
ALL CONDITIONS

January 31, 2022 – 7:28am 15 degrees – High 28

What a weekend of riding & riders in Vilas County! Heavy, Heavy traffic in Eagle River & the whole County.  Trails are showing wear & there are all conditions on the trails.  Taking the middle of the road they range from Good to Fair to Poor.  What we need to improve conditions is lots of new SNOW! Base is less than 7 inches. Some areas it’s getting very snirty & is soft & even mushy in many areas.  So…START DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE if you haven’t already.  The plus right now is that temps are dropping into the low teens or single digits or even below zero at night. Flurries yesterday brought maybe 1/2 inch of fluff.

The Groomer Tracking System AP (GTS) shows everything groomed except Granpa Grahm & Chanticleer to Eagle Lake which are spurs off 10E AND Trail 3 aka Manske Swamp.  Long night for the drivers. Saw one go by grooming 10E at 1am this morning.  When you see them move over to let them by. Give ’em a thumbs up!!!

Catfish & Eagle lake trails marked & OPEN.  To be safe stay by the orange reflective barrels.  DO NOT think the entire lake is safe.  There have been several sleds going into the water this winter.  ALL were no where near a trail or the barrels.

Sure would like trail photos so I can post to the report to let other riders see the real time conditions.  Send them to info@baysidelodgingrentals.com

EAGLE RIVER TRAILS
ALL CONDITIONS
VERY HEAVY TRAFFIC

January 30, 2022 – 7:45am – 16 degrees – High of 18 – Snow Flurries 6 miles east of Eagle River!!

Holy Moly! Heavy traffic this weekend.  Many riders.  Many large groups.  Trails everywhere have different conditions.  Areas of soft mushy SNOW & hard icy sections.  East of Eagle River on 10E the one way heading away from Eagle River on south side of Hwy 70E is SNOW covered.  SNOW soft but pretty deep until you get way out where wide corners have burn throughs.  Heading west on 10E to town on the northside there are areas of snirt especially where the trail under tree cover.  Snirt when you cross roads.  Road routes everywhere burning through.  Riding through Eagle River & past the cool Ice Castle there is soft mushy SNOW cover.  From Hwy G crossing north of town on 10W/13N trail was wash boardy with all the traffic. Trails all the way up to the Log Cabin in downtown Conover improve from the wash board. Some corner blow out. Tons of traffic.

The Groomer Tracking System AP (GTS) shows everything groomed except Trail 3 aka Manske Swamp north of Eagle River that runs between Trails 10W/13N& 17N & a small section of Granpa Grahm aka 1S that heads to Eagle Waters.  Long night for the drivers.  When you see them move over to let them by. Give ’em a thumbs up!!!
