Trail Report – : Keweenaw Peninsula / Houghton-Hancock, South Range, Copper Harbor, Michigan – December 21, 2025

Reporter:Stretch

Trail Conditions: Open

Snow Cover: 20 inches

Date of Report: December 21, 2025

Area Report:

We have received a little over 70 inches of snow through out most of the Keweenaw area. The groomers have been out and most of our trails are being hit at least a couple times a week. It’s still like early season riding in the areas that haven’t received as much snow. We’re coming into Christmas week so ride right and ride safe.

Trail Report – : Sayner, Wisconsin – December 21, 2025

Reporter:SaynerStar Lake Barnstormers

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: Minimal

Date of Report: December 21, 2025

Area Report:

It’s a good thing we didn’t listen to all the naysayers that said we opened too early and that the trails would be trashed after one day!

Every sledder I spoke to over the weekend talked about how good the trails were!  My wife & I road yesterday & hit trails in Sayner, Star Lake, Conover, Phelps & Land O’ Lakes.  Even though it’s a very thin base, it was all fairly flat and so much fun!  We even saw Santa out on his Scorpion.  I heard the same reports from people who rode in the St. Germain, Boulder Junction and Presque Isle sytems.

Yes, we do need more snow, for sure.  Without it, we’ll begin to see more icy conditions as traffic increases over the holiday week.  For now, don’t hesitate to go out and enjoy what we have.

The Barnstormers will be grooming on a very limited basis until we get more snow.  Excessive grooming right now will do more damage than good.  Start doing your snow dances!!

Ride RIght & Ride Safe!

Mark your calendars for these upcoming Barnstormer events:

Wednesday, December 31 – Breakfast at Sayner Pub from 9:00 – Noon.  Blessing of the sleds at 12:30 under the arch.

Saturday, January 10 – Brats on the trail at TIN #217 from 10:00 – 4:00.

Saturday, January 17 – Breakfast at Stillwaters from 8:00 – 11:00.

Saturday, February 7 – Chili dump at The Murm from 2:00 – 5:00.

Sunday, February 15 – Pizza fundraiser at Hillside Tavern from 4:00 – 8:00.

Saturday, March 14 – Drawing for Snowmobile Raffle at Sayner Pub at 5:00!

Trail Report – : Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin – December 21, 2025

Reporter:Toulish1

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 3-8″

Date of Report: December 21, 2025

Snowmobile Information:

Ok, today was my first run. I did not see any sleds, but did run into trail boss Nick in the pickup. We both agreed for low snow, we are in good shape right now. Starting south at Mattke Rd, it is thinner down there. You see more gravel between there and F. F trail is thin, but runnable. 17 starting at Wishow Rd going north is great. There is an ice base with snow on top, so the more studs you have, the happier you will be. Trail 1 up Stearns Lake Rd has snow to run. If the plows don’t scrape to the dirt line, we are good for now. Raven Lake area is wide open, and good. Trail 5 into the casino is thinner, but good.17 from 5 north is great. I ran up to our Kiosk on the grade at the iron county line, and other than about 200 yards around the bridge, the grade is great. A couple of hearty souls have bypassed the bridge. No wet spots I could see. The high winds helped us in the marsh. Anyone thinking of riding south to visit will have a good run. Cold temps have been an asset. Nick said we will pan tonight, Sunday. I won’t be grooming until further notice, so if you see a blond guy that looks 7 feet tall in the tractor, that is my replacement. I would say Christmas will be good riding, just keep an eye on warmer temps, and sunshine. Have a Merry Christmas! Mark

Trail Report – : Conover, Wisconsin – December 20, 2025

Reporter:snobuddies

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 4-6”

Date of Report: December 20, 2025

Area Report:

I haven’t been out yet, but from the riders I have met have said the trails are better than they expected. They have found a few branches on the trails and were able to clear them. The base is thin but is holding up. The forecast is calling for a roller coaster of highs and lows. Hopefully we can survive the brief warm ups and get some more snow.

This is going to be early season riding with a lot of thin areas of snow. Swamps have been packed down, but are thin for snow coverage. With all the down trees across the whole county, you will find several areas with sticks and mulch on the trails. All the clubs have spent several days to weeks cleaning up to get to this point.

Please stay on the trails, riding off the trail to get fresh snow is trespassing and what leads to us loosing trails on private property.

If lakes aren’t marked with barrels, please stay off till they are marked. Don’t stray away from barrels on marked lakes.

Ride Right, Ride Safe

Trail Report – : Lake Gogebic | Bergland, Michigan – December 20, 2025

Reporter:AJ’s Walleye Lodge

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 8+ inches

Date of Report: December 20, 2025

Area Report:

Saturday, December 20th:
Bergland and Marenisco groomers have been out working and trails are reported to be in decent shape with some nice sections and also some not so nice. Caution is strongly advised. Lake traffic is not recommended at this time but we are getting closer each day. Gogebic Area Groomers appreciate the help from those riders taking down some of the whips and low branches. It’s slowly getting better but there are still quite a few out there so if anyone feels inclined, pack a shears and take some more out. At AJ’, we got brushed our AJ access trails, but there is still one turn that needs a tree taken out. If anyone feels inclined to removed that – there will be dinner for you at AJ’s! Thank you!!
Saturday’s forecast looks to be windy with steady snow showers for most of the day. All the riders who came into our place last night had nothing but favorable early season riding reports!
Here’s an update on Lake Gogebic Area Trail conditions:
• Trail 102: Bergland Groomers took two machines up 102 and it had it’s first groom of the season. Definitely not perfect but a step in the right direction.
• Trail 1 South: Groomed and in good shape from Marenisco north to Trail 100. Closed beyond that temporarily. South from Marenisco is groomed to PI. There are still some rough sections with quite a few whips/low branches yet.
• Trail 2: Groomed and smooth through Marenisco to the Trail 1 intersection.
• Trail 13: Rerouted at Trail 100 to the north and then heads east at Camp 6 Rd where it connects back into the old section. It’s panned all the way to the Trail 2/13 intersection but still lots of water and rough sections. Use caution!
• Trail 13 to Root Cellar is not opened, but hoping that it will be opened by the end of the weekend.
• Trail 100: Groomed from Trail 1 to M64 with some wet and rough spots. Panned from M64 to Trail 13 with some rough sections.
Forecast is calling for cold temps – some snow in the forecast – and keeping fingers crossed for a big storm over Christmas!
Thanks to all – looking forward to a great season and don’t forget to join a club where you ride: www.gogebicareagrooming.com!
