Trail Conditions: Excellent

Snow Cover: Amazing

Date of Report: December 26, 2022

Snowmobile Information:

I went out on report patrol at 10:00, and ended up with 120 miles. Conditions are the best on our trails I have seen in three years. There are a lot of lower hanging trees on our club trails we could use some help with, as do a lot of clubs. Trail 17, the grade, is excellent. We did not groom a couple of days, but the trail is great – even up in the Powell Marsh. Trail 1., Stearns Lake Road, has a good layer of ice, and plenty of snow to bang on, and pull down. Trail 5 into the casino is great. F trail along highway F is good, and will get worked now that Keith and George fixed the negative power coupling on the falcon. No word on any lakes yet, so stay tuned on that. Lot of low branches, and some on the trail – please stop and toss them aside. But, no rocks or gravel poking out. Sled traffic was light this morning, but picking up. A lot of work was done this last week by a lot of great volunteers so we could open Friday. When we were selling raffle tickets for the Northern Hornshoes, a lot of people thanked us for the great trails, and the work we do. Thank your clubs, our sponsors, and our landowners. Ride safe. Trail Conditions: Unknown

Snow Cover: 20+

Date of Report: December 26, 2022

Area Report:

Good morning from Gogebic Area Grooming.   We received 20+ inches and in some areas reported to be 30+ inches of snow.  Groomer Greg went up 102 yesterday and the snow is very deep and has classified this most recent snowstorm as 2022 Snowmageddon!

Trails will continue to be opened up but at this time no drags will be pulled and grooming will not commence for a couple of days until everything is back under control.

Please bear with us as we are doing everything possible as quickly as possible.    There is some great riding to be had in the next few days and we will be working hard to ensure we get our trails ready for you to enjoy!

EAGLE RIVER TRAILS
OPEN – EARLY SEASON RIDING

Did you ride yesterday?  Chilly one. High of 6. No wind gusts.   Overall found the trails in GOOD Early Riding.   Not a lot of traffic.   Most of the in the woods trails have branches down.  Didn’t find any trees. Wide open trails like on Trail 10 north & west of town there was drifting from the wind.  Some of the driveway crossings were plowed shut so watch for that. Trail 3 aka Manske Swamp  & Trail 17S heading to the Sugar Camp trails connect still have a mushy spots.  All in all a good ride.

As for weather. This Wednesday the temps are going to pop up to the 30’s during the day & low 20’s at night.  Weather guys are forecasting mostly cloudy.  There is SNOW & sleet forecast.  This will last through the New Year.  Stay tuned.

Grooming in full force.  Here is what was groomed Christmas night:

Trail 10W/13N to the Conover connect
Trail 10W aka Wisconsin River Trail
Trail 7 to Sayner/St. Germain connect
Club Trail 10 aka Uncle Kent Trail heading south to Hwy G
Trail 13/7/17 that begins behind the Dairy Queen in town completely groomed.
(13 connects to St. Germain, 7 aka Paintball field connects with Sugar Camp, 17 connects to Sugar Camp running along side of Hwy 17S)
Alt Trail 13S to the Three Lakes connect

As to the 2 lake trails in Sno-Eagles/Eagle River trail, Catfish & Eagle.  Neither are marked so not safe.   Daily checking of ice depth.  Should be marked this week.  Watch for updates.

Two last reminders. Please no off trail riding.  Also as you ride you might meet a groomer.   They are big & can’t pull over for us.  So pull over & let the driver direct you.  And oh ya give ’em a thumbs up.  They groom so we can ride!!!

Keep DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE!!

See ya on the trails again real soon!

Reporter:Matt Winters

Trail Conditions: Open

Snow Cover: 18″-22″

Date of Report: December 24, 2022

Area Report:

The trails are officially open for the year and are in good early riding conditions. The swamps are not froze over enough to support grooming equipment yet so expect to encounter some short stretches of ungroomed, rough trail here and there. Use caution when riding through these areas as you may encounter open spots. Expect to encounter a number of hanging  branches in the trail from a recent ice storm. The area lakes are doing well for this early in the season but some have a layer of water between the snow and ice mainly along the shoreline’s. Be safe, have a Merry Christmas, we’ll see you out there.

OPEN – EARLY RIDING

First day of ridin’ is in the books.   Inch or 2 of new SNOW yesterday & a lot of wind.  Gusts over 40MPH so sure there’s drifting on the trails in the open areas.  Didn’t ride yesterday, but did notice some driveway crossingS have trail plowed shut.  Be aware of that as you ride.

Grooming in full force building a base.   Spoke with the new President, Keith.  He told me trails in Early Season Riding.   Manske Swamp, Trail 3 and a portion of Trail 17S just south of the Paintball Field, Trail 7 have mushy spots.  Wisconsin River Bridge, Trail 10/13 heading west is good to go and tight. Buy a map Trail 10/13 heading north has 2 small reroutes.   One due to landowners closing trail due to off trail riding.  The other is to get us off a section of Adams Rd north of town. Part is back in the frozen swamp & highland & off Adams.

2 weather alerts on my app this morning. Wind gusts will continue with some Lake Effect Snow.   Later today more heavy SNOW & blowing.   Going to a lot of drifting.  4-8 inches in the northwest part of Vilas County. 1-3 inches for the rest of the county.   Low of 1 tonight

Going to be COLD so dress warm, stop often, have a phone with you, and most important let someone know where you are riding.
