March 19 2019 6:20am – 21 – High 44

Well the chances of getting to the end of the month are not looking as good as this did this past weekend.  Temps today 44 & then 38 on Wednesday followed by 47 on Thursday.  Then for the weekend 50’s.  The Vilas County Snowmobile Alliance has it’s monthly meeting tomorrow.  On agenda is trails.  So the 11 clubs will discuss the future of trail riding.

No grooming overnight.

As reported in town trails have degraded.  Here are some better riding areas.

The grade south to the 10E intersection.  Past the 10E intersection road sections bare & mush & water in some places.

Trail 10E starting from the ERRA Sports Arena & east is SNOW covered except the Hwy 70 bridge crossing.  Went out all the way to Military Rd.  Then onto Anvil Lk Rd.  All the way to Bald Eagle Lane all were covered.  Into the woods trail to Anvil Lake boat launch & campground.  All of this was covered.  Didn’t go any further.  But thinking it should be good all the way out with the exception of the areas that are wide open where it is probably has icy corners. Hasn’t been groomed for a bit so there are bumpy areas like the section from Spring Meadow Rd crossing to Military Rd.

Heading north on 3/13. This as you leave town.  At the intersection take 3 north.  10W/13N is closed.

Snow is crystalized so in the morning it is crusty & lubrication can be an issue.  Just dip into the snow along the edge of the trail.

These important updates continue:

There is 1 logging operations going on where there is a need to use parts of the trails. Trail 13N by Deep Lake Rd. Plus utility work on 7 near Sugar Camp on the high line.

Road crews are still out off & on winging road banks.  There are some parts of trails that run along highways that could be have chunky snow on them from the road clearings.  10E is one on the south side from where you come a steep hill to Townline Rd crossing near the Hwy bridge crossing.

EAGLE LAKE TRAIL & CATFISH LAKE TRAIL ARE MARKED & OPEN. Lots of slush so for the more experienced rider at this point.

The 2 one-way trail areas are 10E from the ERRA Sports Arena all the way out to Nicolet Mini Mart.  The other is the 13’s up near Buckatabon Bridge & Bauer’s Dam area.  Please be aware that for now signs will be buried in many locations.

Trails can & will remain open until midnight March 31 snow & conditions permitting.  Think we will make it?
