Trails Good

January 30 2019 6:56am – 22 below zero – High of 5 below

Another very cold morning in Eagle River.  22 below right now & will probably drop just a bit more when the sun comes up.  Same cold tomorrow, Wednesday with high of 6 below & low of 17 below. Friday the cold is forecast to break with high of 13 & low of 5.  This will continue through the weekend.  Could see some sleet on Sunday & then SNOW next Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday forecast by the weather guys.  Stay tuned.

All in all trails are GOOD but very icy under the Snow.  Pays to slow down.  Straight away. Curves.  Everywhere.

No grooming in Sno-Eagles Country due to the temps.  Dangerous for the drivers & very hard on the equipment.

Not much in the line of problem areas to report.  High hill section on Trail 70W.  A few spots on the north side of 10E. Road crossings. North part of 13N heading out of town is choppy. With the cold 10/13 aka Wisconsin River bridge & 3 aka Manske Swamp are frozen tight.

Might want to reconsider riding today.  If you do wait until mid to late afternoon.  Here are some cold weather tips:

  • Do not ride alone
  • Download the “MapItVilasCo.” app See link below
  • Tell someone where you are going
  • Make sure your gas tank stays full. Stop for gas as you ride
  • Stop more often & drink warm drinks
  • Be sure you phone is fully charged.  Store in the inside pocket of your jacket.
  • Dress in layers

Worth repeating is that:

Sno-Eagles Country has 2 areas that have one-way trails.  10E is a one-way trail from the ERRA Sports Arena all the way out to Nicolet Mini Mart.  The other is the 13’s up near Buckatabon Bridge & Bauer’s Dam area.  Clearly marked with DO NOT ENTER signs.  Plus trail signs are backwards if you are going the wrong way.

EAGLE LAKE TRAIL & CATFISH LAKE TRAIL ARE MARKED & OPEN. Stay by the reflective orange barrels.

THINK SNOW!!!

See ya on the trails when it warms up!!!
