TRAILS FAIR ON AVERAGE
Plenty of GOOD too!
Just returned from the Celebrate Wisconsin Snowmobiling VIP dignitary ride. Over 70 riders in 6 groups. Rode with the Yellow Group which left the Derby Track going behind the Snowmobile Museum to Trail 17N. Left turn on to Trail 3 aka Manske Swamp to intersection of 10W/13N Right on 10w/13N. To One Way Trail for a stop at Buckatabon Shelter for hot chocolate provided by the Sno-Eagles groomer drivers. From there headed out on Trail 13S to Trail 10W. West on Trail 10W towards St. Germain. Rode Trail 10W to Trail 7 heading to Eagle River to where it joins 70W. Stop for lunch at The Grill at the Eagle River Inn & Resort. Then back to town & the Derby Track.
All the trails we rode were groomed over night. Found Trail 17N win pretty good shape with the usual snirt on the north side of the road. Manske Swamp trail was smooth & snow covered for the most part. 10W/13N thinner SNOW with icy blown spots. The One Way Trail was filled with lots of white SNOW and smooth. 13S from the Buckatabon Shelter was mostly SNOW covered with some icy corners. 10W off of 13S was the thinnest. Also grainy, snirty & icy. When we hopped onto 7 toward Eagle River there was plenty of white SNOW again and trails smooth. 70W heading toward Eagle River was thin & icy on the high ridge area that is across the highway from the Wisconsin River. Great view from up there. In the woods 70W was better but still could use more SNOW & is icy. The section from Cloverland Rd to the highway crossing from the south side to the north side had SNOW but it was snirty. The last leg on the north side to the Eagle River Inn & Resort was SNOW covered. From the Eagle River Inn to Trail 13N/3 intersection behind the Dairy Queen was in not good shape. Very snirty, ice & thin of SNOW. The “grade” back to the Derby Track is in pretty good shape. SNOW covered. Our ride into town & back on the “grade” and 10E had all sorts of conditions. The “grade” was EXCELLENT both in & back. 10E on the north side heading to town is a combination of SNOW covered, ice, snirt & even few spots of dirt. 10E on the south side heading home is much better. All SNOW covered. All trails could use more SNOW. About an inch or so today & a bit of “wintery mix” that iced our helmet shields. Popped my shield open for most of the day. Snow pretty hard at 5:17pm 6 miles east of Eagle River.
Trail 1N logging operation continues in the section between the Town of Washington Town Hall & Eagle Lake. With the log piles and icy grainy conditions in that section it would be good to slow down. Minimal grooming due to the logging operation.
Catfish Lake Loop & Eagle Lake Trails are marked with orange easy to see reflective barrels. Please stay by the barrels to be safe. No surface slush. Reminder that the Catfish Lake Trail that ran from Braywood to Lumpy’s is not open. Please do not trespass on private land.
