Where is the SNOW?

Good morning. Temps still bouncing up & down.  16 overnight with a high of 39 today.  Tomorrow high of 39 with a low of 25.  A schiff of SNOW on the ground, which is finally freezing up.  So you know what you need to do…….THINK COLD.  Then we can start doing the SNOW DANCE.

Vilas County Forestry, Recreation & Land department started trail inspections yesterday.  Don was out inspecting Lac du Flambeau, Boulder Junction & one other club in the western part of the county.  It will take this week & part of next week to complete inspections for all 11 clubs

Eagle River Sno-Eagles are busy finishing up trail work.  Trailing signing, brushing & doing re routes.  Trail 13 that heads west of Eagle River has a re route in the section that comes out on Oak Lane by the Pine Gables Restaurant.  There is new construction going on so the club has done a temporary move over of the trail.  The club is working with the Vilas Forestry, Recreation and Land department to complete the permanent re route which will be in place for the 2021-2022 season.  If you are familiar with that trail rather than the 2 corners at the west end by Oak Lane it will go straight ahead.

There are still many wet mushy areas.  The night time temps are sure helping that.  But it needs to stay in teens or single digits at night to get the trails frozen tight.  During the day it would be great if it would only get into the 20’s during the day.

Right now Vilas county we are still in deer hunts. So the trails cannot open until all hunts are done & SNOW & TRAIL CONDITION PERMIT. The 9 day season ended at dusk last Sunday.  This past Monday the 10 muzzleloader season started.  That ends on December 9.  Then one more hunt.  The 4 day antlerless hunt which ends on Sunday, December 12.

It won’t be long now!  Can’t wait to see ya all out on the trails!

THINK COLD!
