Area Report:
General Countywide Report:
Trail conditions remain highly variable, with hard bases and icy conditions being reported throughout the county. Use extra caution when out on the trails. Some swamp crossings may still not be frozen and there are some trails that have only received minimal amounts of grooming. Approach all wet areas with extra caution and be prepared to turn around if the crossing appears suspicious. Be wary of low hanging branches, wet areas, downed trees and/or limbs, and other similar hazards that may compromise the trail. Use extra caution, be prepared to turn around or find an alternate route and stay on the trails!
See below for area specific reports. For the most up to date report of trail conditions, please contact the local snowmobile club.
Drummond Snojacks: all trails will be groomed before the weekend, with the exception of 63 north of Grand View. Trails are in fair to good condition, with hard packed snow and ice. Trail 63 and Trail 4, north of Grand View in the Mason area, continue to be rideable, however, snow cover is very light. There are some bare areas in the Bibon Swamp. As a reminder to trail users, most of the trails in the Mason area are on private property. Please stay on the trail. Don’t cut corners or look for shortcuts.
Namakagon Trail Groomers: 2 to 4 inch base. All trails are groomed (with exception of bigger marshes). Trails are in fair to good condition.
Valhalla Area: Trails in the Valhalla area remain in good to very good condition. Trail 63 spur trail from USFS to Corridor to Trail 31 is no longer being groomed until we receive more snow. Trail 1 North of Valley Road in Bayfield has open water but you can get around it to get to the casino.
Iron River Area: Iron River area trails are in good condition with the exception of Trail 4 from the Tri-County Corridor to the Mason area. Trail 4 has been groomed, but has very thin base. It is rideable, but expect some icy or bare spots. All other trails have a hard base with some icing on the corners and hills.
Frosty’s Vintage Riders (Mason/Delta Area): trails in the Mason/Delta area are thin, with some bare spots, but rideable, with a hard and icy base. Be extra cautious when approaching icy corners and hills.
South Shore Trail Club (Port Wing, Herbster & Cornucopia Areas): Trail 1 west of 41 is in good condition. Trail 1 east of 41 is currently in fairly rough shape, but is scheduled to be groomed on 1/17 and will be in good condition. All trails are rideable, but please use extra caution.
A portion of Trail 40 (Wally Polk) was recently plowed, but is still open. If riding this section of trail be aware of logging activity, including haul trucks. To get to Port Wing, an alternate route would be Trail 43 to Trail 66 to Trail 3.
Barnestormers (Barnes Area): all trails in the Barnes area have been groomed and are holding up well despite the general lack of new snow. The trail conditions improve when heading further north. Trail 31 south of Mulligan Creek Road remains closed until a few repairs are completed and conditions improve (more snow).
Waino Riders (Northwest Corner of the County): Trail 1 from Brule to Highway 13 remains in good shape, with some icy stretches.
Washburn Valhallers: Trail #13 North from Washburn to Valhalla area was groomed 1/15 and remains in good shape. The base is much thinner when closer to Washburn, but rideable. Expect a few icy corners and only a few bare spots.
Trail #63 (Moquah Spur) was groomed 1/15 and is in decent condition; the base is very thin in spots closer to the Tri-County Corridor, but still rideable.
Trail #33 from Valhalla to the Spur was also groomed 1/15 and remains in good shape. Trail #31 North from the Spur to the top of Valhalla is being groomed on 1/16 and will be in good to very good condition.
Trail #13 South from Washburn to the Tri-County Corridor will be touched up on 1/17. It is thin with a few bare spots, but has a mostly solid, flat base.
