EAGLE RIVER TRAILS
Poor to Good

If you rode yesterday & riders did there was every condition out there possible.  We did not ride yesterday as we were getting ready for a cross country ride to Mercer, WI this morning.  Going to be a real adventure.   Will post some of the adventure ride tomorrow with my report.

A friend did ride & he sent me a report.  Yesterday morning rode to Conover on 10W/13N out of town.  At connect to took 13N to Conover & reported great  The Conover one way is closed for the season & gated.  That’s up near Bauers Dam.  He headed to Sayner on 10W/7.  In the AM trails were holding up ok.  Sun & temps were burning through some in open areas.  Soft snow. 10/13 in town trail bad. Slush & burn through.  Did not ride west on trail 70W or south on Trail Alt 13S.  In & out of town is hard as road are bare for the most part.  Woods riding should still be ok.  Freezing over night is causing very very icy in the AM & late at night.  Please if you are venturing out SLOW DOWN & use extreme  caution & RIDE RIGHT.

As for grooming, the Groomer Tracking Systems shows

East trails – 10E to Three Lakes connect to include 9Mile trail.  Other spurs NOT groomed

North trails – 10W/13N from groomer barn to Conover connect.  17N to Trail 1 intersection. 3N aka Manske swamp.

Northwest trails – Wisconsin River Bridge section of 10/W/13N.  The 2 way of the 13 trails heading north to Bauer’s Dam.  10W/7 trails west except the Uncle Kent trail that takes you to Hwy G

South trails – Alt 13S to Three Lakes connect.

Not sure where the season is headed.  Snow in the forecast but going need a lot to help.  Good it’s cold at night.  START DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE!!!

Eagle & Catfish Lake trails are marked.  Please stay by the orange reflective barrels. Surface is very hard still with moguls. With the warm up surface slush.  SLOW DOWN. Remember not all lakes are safe.

Again, off trail riding is a big problem.  PLEASE STAY ON THE TRAIL & Take the Snowmobilers Pledge.

THINK COLD!!!  Keep DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE!!

See ya on the trails if you are ridin’, today!

Trail Report – : Conover, Wisconsin – February 12, 2023

Reporter:snobuddies

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 8-12″

Date of Report: February 12, 2023

Area Report:

All trails including the Cemetery trail were groomed late last night into early Sunday AM. Trail Boss Chad said there was more good than bad when grooming. He was able to pull corners back in. There are some high travel spots that have taken a beating with sled traffic and the warmer temps during the day. These areas are down to the base.

Remember that with the warmer temps, the snow will soften and push out in corners. Under that is the ice base. This makes the corners slick. Enjoy the ride and slow down.

We are watching the forecasts closely and adjusting grooming times accordingly. We may cut back a few days this week due to temps. If we can get thru the next few days, there is colder temps coming and some potential snow. We need a good dump to freshen the trails up. Keep doing the snow dance.

News and Reports:

If you find a condition that you need to report to the Conover Sno-Buddies like a down tree, water on the trail, etc, either message us on Facebook, use the contact page on our website, or even notify a local establishment. They know how to get a hold of us to fix the issue.

  • A reminder to ride between the orange blazers. Along Hwy K West, there were several 100 trees removed this summer to place new electric poles. Most of the stumps are still there. If you were to hit one, it could ruin your trip quickly. Ride Right ➡️ Ride Safe.

Warm up continues  Trails still have ice base & are soft SNOW covered out of town.  No change on that. In town trails still have base in most areas.  Snow has lots of moisture, so conditions are wet in town.  Again out of town riding is your best bet. Expect quick changing conditions.

Husband took a short ride yesterday east of town with both of our sleds.  10E from the 2 way section by Cenex is snow cover to the 9mile trail.  9mile trail is snow covered.  Friends rode 10E to Three Lakes trail TL5 aka Kimbel Creek trail all the way to Three Lakes.  Reported snow covered.  10E one way snow covered all the way to the ERRA Sports Arena.  Other friends rode north on 10W/13N after getting in the woods snow covered.

As for grooming, the Groomer Tracking Systems shows

  • East trails – 10E to Three Lakes connect to include 9Mile trail.  Other spurs NOT groomed
  • North trails – 10W/13N from groomer barn to Conover connect.  17N to Trail 1 intersection. 3N aka Manske swamp.
  • West trails – Wisconsin River Bridge section of 10/W/13N.  All of the 13 trails heading north to Bauer’s Dam.  10W/7 trails west except the Uncle Kent trail that takes you to Hwy G

Temps up & down. Common for February.  The temps at night are going below freezing at night.  Many low teens or single digits.   Bunch of SNOW patterns in the forecast but nothing firming up.  Stay tuned.

Eagle & Catfish Lake trails are marked.  Please stay by the orange reflective barrels. Surface is very hard with moguls. With the warm up surface slush.  SLOW DOWN. Remember not all lakes are safe.

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 12″-16″

Date of Report: February 11, 2023

Area Report:

For the most part the trails have been holding up fairly well. With day time temps reaching the upper 30’s expect to encounter some rough stretches, blown out corners, and icy corners. Especially on heavy traffic weekends. One of our groomers will be down a few days for repairs so expect to encounter grooming equipment during the day as well as during the night. We’ve been running two shifts on one machine so chances are you’ll encounter one somewhere on our trails system day or night. With that being said use caution when entering a corner. Thanks and be safe out there

Snowmobile Information:

Keith and I groomed the whole circuit. Trail 17 gets a little thin up in the Powell marsh around the bridge, sleds are currently going out into the marsh and bypassing the bridge. Trail five into the casino is good. Raven Lake area was thin in spots, but Keith worked it over several times to level it out the best he could. It’s like giving Picasso finger paints, there’s only so much you could do. Trail 17 south of the Raven all the way to Woodruff had plenty of snow, and we groomed it back the best we could. F trail running down to Gunlock Lake Road is excellent. Trail one, Stearns Lake Road, going north, has adequate ice and snow on the edges, and as the sun warms up today, the people that dodge the banks should tear some down. Northern Hornshoe trails are in amazing condition, considering the lack of snow. Last year I would report excellent.  I went on patrol yesterday and ran into a considerable number of sleds, so I think this weekend will have some heavy traffic. It’s 20° right now at 7:30 AM, so things have set up the best they could. It’s going to be bright sunshine and 43° today, so still a decent day for a ride, but the next two days will probably take their toll. The lakes are all good, except the fence which is not marked. When I was grooming last night, I saw quite a few sleds coming off the trail that takes you to the Landing off 47 so they’ve been out there. It’s going to be busy today, so slow down on the corners, and stay right. Enjoy the weekend and be safe. Mark.

EAGLE RIVER TRAILS
Mixed Bag – On Average Fair

Warm up continues  Trails still have ice base & are soft SNOW covered out of town in most areas.  Snow has lots of moisture, so conditions are wet in town.  Again out of town riding is your best bet. Expect quick changing conditions.

Conditions yesterday were a mixed bag.  Trail 10 in the one way sections is snow covered from where is starts near the ERRA Sports arena east to the Cenex gas station on both sides. Heading east & west. Some areas thin.  Heading onto Taylor Lk Rd east past the ERRA Sports area & Pine Ln are icy in spots.  Enough icy to ride along the edge .  After crossing Bloom Rd & back onto the trail section of 10 is ragged in the wide open areas.  Under cover better.  From the connect with 13 “the grade” into town the first section is still snow covered & Good to the first road crossing.  The section along the road heading north has snow but is squirrelly soft snow. From the intersection with Trail 70W that heads west & through town mushy & wet.  Very little base.  Like this ’til past Trackside.  From there to Hwy G soft moisture filled snow.  That’s as far as we went.

  • 10W/13N from the groomer barn to Conover connect
  • Wisconsin River Bridge section of 10W/13N to intersection on the west side
  • 13N to the Bauer’s (Buckatabon connect) to Conover connect
  • 10W & 7 to Sayner/North St. Germain connect
  • Uncle Kent club trail off 10W that comes out at Hwy G
  • 17N to Trail 1 to Eagle Lake

Temps up & down. Another stretch of warm much like the one in January. Looks to be a weather pattern coming that should bring SNOW & dropping temps starting Wednesday night.  Forecast looks like a SNOW producer.  Stay tuned.

Eagle & Catfish Lake trails are marked.  Please stay by the orange reflective barrels. Surface is very hard with moguls. With the warm up surface slush.  SLOW DOWN. Remember not all lakes are safe.

Again, off trail riding is a big problem.  PLEASE STAY ON THE TRAIL & Take the Snowmobilers Pledge.

Report from groomers last night was good. They said it went well considering it was nearly 50 degrees on Wednesday. It is cold right now, but that evil sun is out. This is going to turn the snow soft and corners will push out reveling the ice below. Please, ride carefully and slow down for corners.
Keep doing the snow dance, we need some fresh snow to freshen up the trails.
We are watching the temps and will groom as long as it gets cold at night to set it up.
