Trail Report – : Hayward / Sawyer County, Wisconsin – February 14, 2023

Reporter:haywardlakes

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 9-10 Inches

Date of Report: February 14, 2023

Area Report:

While we’d like to wait until Wednesday has passed to give a full weekend report, we know many would like just a bit of an update prior so we will give the best as possible as of today. Monday, we had warm temps and today is warmer with some rain in the forecast. While rain is never helpful the good news is we have a deep base, so our conditions should hold up. The temps are forecast to drop on Wednesday and hold cold for a few days. When this happens there could be some icy spots on the trails, specifically around corners. The groomers will be back out after Wednesday to smooth things out and they will pull some snow from sides into corners and stop signs/intersections as needed. The trails near and on the roads will have some bare and dirty spots as they are exposed to the elements and heavy traffic as well as salt from the plow trucks; so please DO NOT judge the trails by the ones near the roads. We have great wooded trails!  Also remember the roadside trials are mostly connecting trails and get you from point A to point B, so you do not need to be on them long. Wednesday night a little snow is in the forecast, just enough to clean up things.

The lakes report to be pretty good, on the lake trails with the traffic and the warmup and re-freeze they have smoothed out a bit, will still be some rough spots, but certainly rideable. Lake Hayward is not staked.

We will report after Wednesday, closer to the weekend, when groomers are back out smoothing things up for the weekend! If you are planning a weekend ride keep it on the schedule and get out there!!

We are not in control of Mother Nature and would like to be out there playing in the snow, just like you. If you do venture out, watch out for icy corners and hills, and changing conditions. Our operators report that conditions are still favorable for the weekend ahead, so we are still listing our trails as GOOD. Keep doing your snow dances!

LINCOLN COUNTY: All Zones open. ONEIDA COUNTY: Open.

Recent warm temperatures mean heavily trafficked and open areas are thin or bare. While wooded areas are better, forecasted rain means likely changing trail conditions this week. Continue to keep to marked trails only, especially on waterways.

ATVs are only allowed on designated trails when temperatures are below 28F. No UTVs.

As always, we remind riders to stay on marked trails. Off trail riding is trespassing and could result in closure or loss of trails and citations and fines for those who participate.

Some trails are in fair condition for riding – Trail #2, trail #107, Trail #16, Trail #116, Trail #113, Trail #18

Additional trails in poor to fair condition – Trail #111, Trail #15 S.

Trail 15N to intersection remains closed with a bridge issue

Trail #111 to Sidnaw is open but in need of more snow.

Temps are going back down as the week moves along…. and all groomers will be back out on the trails as soon as we receive additional snowfall.  We will update this report once we have new information to share.

Please be sure to give the Groomers you meet or pass along the trails plenty of room to navigate around each other and always try to stay on your side of the trail.
