Trail Conditions: Poor

Snow Cover: Ice base with some snow in the woods

Date of Report: February 16, 2023

Area Report:

Well folks, the current status is not what we hoped for, but not totally unexpected with the warm temps and more devestating was the rain.  The trails are in poor condition at this point.  They are down to a thin, icy base with bare spots.

I could not suggest looking forward to a long ride at this point.   We desperately need snow to change the present conditions.

Reporter:minocqua

Trail Conditions: Poor

Snow Cover: ice

Date of Report: February 16, 2023

Area Report:

Well the trails are in poor shape after the rain like i said it would be, nothing but ice and very slick, no snow for lube or steering, suggest you stay home until more snow, you would overheat and most likely end up in the trees. All we need is 6 inches of snow on top of our ice base and we should be fine so until then

Trail Conditions: Not Ridable

Snow Cover: Ice

Date of Report: February 16, 2023

Area Report:

With the rain, and now colder temps, the trails have turned into hard sheets of ice with little to no snow cover. We have not groomed the trails since Saturday Feb 11th.

The Vilas County Snowmobile Alliance is asking riders to refrain from using our trails until we receive more snow and can groom the trails. We are asking this for your safety, to protect your snowmobile and to protect our private landowners land.

Once we receive more info and grooming resumes, we will post an update here.

There are several activities going on in the northwoods this weekend, so come check those out and support our local establishments.

News and Reports:

  • A reminder to ride between the orange blazers. Along Hwy K West, there were several 100 trees removed this summer to place new electric poles. Most of the stumps are still there. If you were to hit one, it could ruin your trip quickly. Ride Right ➡️ Ride Safe.
  • To see where the Groomer is at, check out  Groomer Tracker  Half the cost of the app comes back to Conover Sno-Buddies to support grooming operations.

IMPORTANT UPDATE:  On 2/15/2023, the Vilas County Forestry, Recreation & Land Department issued the following announcement.

The Vilas County Snowmobile Trail conditions have rapidly deteriorated to poor conditions and we recommend they not be used.

For more information, please contact Todd Bierman, Parks and Recreation Supervisor at 715-479-5160.

Due to unseasonable weather conditions, the Vilas County Snowmobile Trail System has deteriorated to poor and dangerous conditions.  All grooming operations have been halted due to lack of snow to work with.  The current trails are very icy and grooming blades can’t cut the trail base to smooth it out.  There is no loose snow on the trail base for cooling or lubricating the slides.  They Vilas County Snowmobile Alliance is asking that you please refrain from using the snowmobile trails until more snow is received.  Once the clubs have some workable snow, grooming will start back up.  We are asking this for your safety, your snowmobile well-being and to protect our landowner’s property.  Please, if you are planning on visiting Vilas County, there are plenty of other activities to enjoy this time of year.  Please contact the Vilas County Tourism Department for more information at (715) 479-3649 or email them at: vilasadv@Vilascountywi.gov.

We don’t like to ask this but feel the need to be completely honest with you so that you have the most enjoyable time here in Vilas County.  Please be safe and if you haven’t already, join a snowmobile club and “Ride Right”.

Snowmobile Information:

Got the message from Keith that the Vilas County alliance has decided to keep our trails open, with the hope we get more snow. All 11 clubs are currently on grooming standdown. We are asking that people stay off the trails, as it is mostly bare ground or ice. Any grooming, or riding activity, will only damage what’s left of the base. Mark

The unseasonable weather has taken a toll on our trails.  This has left them in a unrideable condition The Vials County Snowmobile Alliance is asking snowmobilers to stay off the trails untill more snow comes.  This is something we really don’t want to ask but it is the truth.  Trails are all iced base with no snow for cooling or lubrication.  Not good for your machine or for staying on your side of the trail in the corners.  I know we all want to ride this holiday weekend but the conditions are not there.  There are plenty of other activities in the are this weekend.  Please contact the local or county tourism offices for information on those events.  Please click on the press release link below for more information.  We want youto stay safe and “Ride Right”

SNO-EAGLES
EAGLE RIVER TRAILS
Poor

Snowmobile trails have degraded to POOR & not safe. While the temps have dropped currently all are ice.  Here is a statement directly from the President of the Sno-Eagles Snowmobile Club, Keith Nettesheim:

“Trail Report

We’ve been receiving many inquiries if people should come up this weekend and how trail conditions will be.  As of today, all main routes are bare near town and solid ice on routes out of town.

Conditions are POOR.  We do not recommend riding this weekend or until conditions improve.

The temperature is finally falling below freezing, however this is leaving nothing bt ice everywhere making very hazardous conditions.  If you’re coming up for the weekend, there’s plenty of fun going on across the Northwoods with various events, but you’re going to want to leave the sleds parked.  We would rather be honest with you about conditions before you tear up your machines and are highly disappointed.  Grooming operations are on hold until we receive some snow to work with.  There is hope on the horizon with weather systems next week, bt it’s too far out to get too excited about.  Be sure to patronize our local establishments and sponsors to show your support.”

Eagle & Catfish Lake trails are still marked.  But recommend not riding.  Surface is very hard thick ice with slush & water over ice.

THINK COLD!!!  Keep DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE!!

See ya on the trails real soon!

Trail Report – : Walworth County, Wisconsin – February 15, 2023

Trail Conditions: Closed

Date of Report: February 15, 2023

Area Report:

Well a lot has changed since last report. All the snow is gone warm weather and rain is finally over. We have winter storm warning for tomorrow. We will wait and see what happens. It will be a tricky call on whether or not the trails open. First variable will be exactly how much snow we get. We will have to wait and see. We did get quite a bit of rain and the warm weather will return relatively quickly. We will post updates tomorrow. We will see how things look by this time tomorrow and determine if we can open for a short period of time or not. Stay tuned: check here, Walworth County Snowmobile Alliance Facebook page or call the snow phone (262) 742-2664 before you go out and ride! Thank you.
