Trail Report – : Sayner, Wisconsin – December 29, 2025

Area Report:

Thank you all for your snow dances!  Last night’s storm dumped about 14″ in our area.  The first half was heavy wet snow, followed by dry powder.  While we need heavy wet stuff on the trails, it also caused a considerable amount of damage.  There are limbs & trees down throughout our entire system.

The initial intent was to get out and groom today and tonight.  However, we won’t be pulling the groomers out until we get through the whole system to clear trees.  Once that’s done, we’ll follow up with the groomers.  This is going to take some time, so please be patient with us.

If anyone is venturing out with their sleds today, be aware there may be sections of trail that are unpassable until trees are cleared.  Feel free to strap on a chainsaw and give us a hand while you’re out there.  Any help we can get today will be very much appreciated.   Once this is done, the trails are going to be amazing!!!

Trail Report – : Spooner and Washburn County, Wisconsin – December 29, 2025

Area Report:

All Washburn County snowmobile trails are officially open for the season. Following the recent snowfall on 12/28, local snowmobile clubs and county staff have been actively working to pack, groom, and prepare the entire trail system. Once all trails have been fully groomed, an updated trail condition report will be shared. If you encounter any trail issues such as downed trees, limbs, or debris, please report them to Washburn County Forestry at 715-635-4490.

Please remember that grooming and maintenance activities continue throughout the season. Use caution while riding, watch for trail equipment, and enjoy the trails responsibly.

Winter has arrived in Vilas County

Late report this morning.  Waited for update from the grooming guys. SNOW moved in late yesterday and continued all night into early AM this morning.  Heavy wet SNOW.  Perfect for grooming! Here is what was groomed yesterday

                    Trail 10E to include:
                    Trail 9mile connect to Three Lakes
                    Trail 1N – Chanticleer Trl
                    Trail 1S – GrampGraham Trl
                    Trail 10/13/3N – Whiskey Creek Trail

Today out grooming the rest of the system.  

Wind is gusting between 17mph & 33mph out of the north/northwest.  So if you ride watch for downed trees, branches & drifts in open areas. 

Vilas County & the Vilas County Snowmobile Alliance voted to use donated safety funds for beacon lighting.  It will be installed at the entrance/exit of lakes.  They will flash red, green & white.  This should help riders find the exit off the lake.  Clubs are installing.  Right click on the announcement to enlarge.

Hello Riders! We got around a foot of snow overnite and the club is working on opening the gates.This may take a few days.Remember,we wont be grooming yet.With the high winds we are getting,it may take weeks to remove all of the trees and branches on the trails.All the gates should be open by this Friday 1-2-26.Please watch for water and any other obstacles on the trails!   THINK SNOW!!!!

At 8:00 am it’s 15 degrees out with 10” of new snow on the ground since Sunday afternoon.
Our entire trail system was groomed Saturday night and early Sunday morning in anticipation of
the upcoming snow.
With this new snow and temps in the teens the rest of the week, riding should be very good all
week.
Today we will be going out to inspect and groom all our trails starting this afternoon and
finishing this evening.
Please use caution today if you are going out early to ride as you may encounter overhanging
limbs or fallen branches on the trail prior to us going out to inspect and groom the trails.
Please ride safe this week, enjoy our trails, and stop in and visit are local businesses during your
stay.
Look for an updated trail report on Thursday, 1/1/26.

Hello Riders!

We got anywhere between 8-12 inches of beautiful snow from Sunday into early Monday morning! Groomers will be out this afternoon/evening to get trails ready for the week. We will have updates as grooming progresses. Most of the lakes are staked and ready to ride, with the exception of Lake Hayward and Lake Chetac. We will update when those are staked.

One area of caution to note, Trail 18 getting on and off the Chippewa Flowage. The caution is marked, but be careful.

Lakes staked; Round, Spider, Tiger Cat, Lost Land, Moose, Chippewa Flowage, Callahan, Nelson, Grindstone, LCO, Whitefish, Big Siss, Little Siss, Sand, Holly

Not staked (have not been given an eta on those lakes): Chetac, Lake Hayward.

We got the snow!! 13 inched of heavy wet snow!! We are out with our equipment panning and clearing trails. If you ride please watch for groomers.  With the heavy snow & wind tree branches my hang low, or branches/ trees could be down on the trails so please use caution. Lakes will be marked before New Years. 

Our trails in Forest Co. are still not open. We will let you know when they do open.

The trail 7 from Spirit Lake to Maple Lake will be closed this season. 

When visiting downtown businesses please park your sled at the Shed the Sled, corner of Highway 45 and County Highway A. Please do not park in businesses’ parking lots or town roads.

Trail Report – : Conover, Wisconsin – December 28, 2025

Area Report:

Here we go, it started snowing around 2:30 this afternoon. Before that it was rain which took our trail base down to nothing. Along with the snow they are calling for, 8-12” , there is going to be high winds. With heavy snow and wind, this will bring trees and branches down on the trails. Hopefully it isn’t as bad as the Thanksgiving storm damage. 

Trail Boss Chad was on his way to the barn to get equipment ready. We may be out on the trails with the Tuckers checking for down trees and clearing them during the day time. 

Use caution crossing any lake trail. North Twin has been marked, and there is a large ice heave out in the middle of the lake. Pioneer Lake near Maple View Resort has also been marked with barrels. Stay near the barrels when crossing any lake trail. 

Once we get this new snow set as a base, we should be good for some excellent trails. Stay tuned.

Looks to be SNOW is coming

Happy to report a WINTER STORM WATCH is in effect starting this afternoon & expiring Monday 12/29 at 3pm for VILAS county.  Heavy snow possible with total SNOW accumulation between 11 & 16 inches possible. Wind gusts as high as 40 mph. Causing drifting. Do not have specific totals for Eagle River.  My guess is 9 inches  

If the SNOW totals pan out, trails will move up to GOOD in no time.
