Snowmobile Information:

Sunday Update. -17 This morning and sunny. Friday’s 38 degree temps with low traffic gave us a perfect storm. The puffy snow got warm, picked up moisture, then froze. Overall our trails are early season to good. F Trail from Gunlock to 47 is sorta bumpy, with some dirt showing in spots, but good. 17 from Mattke Rd to East Boundary is thin where the sun got at it so gravel is poking up but overall pretty good. East Boundary all the way to H is great. Club trail from H down to 47 is rutted, so stay in the center. From 47 down to Moss Lake is good. Farther down to Crawling Stone good. Keep going toward Fence where you link up with Thorofare is a little suspect where the construction was. Back up to 17 where it picks up at H – very good into the Raven.Raven Lake area was very good in the new construction area. 5 into the Casino needs some work. Truck ruts, but perfect if you stay in the middle.17 north from 5 good all the way to the tundra in the Powell Marsh, then you can see it’s thin. I called no Joy and came about at that point yesterday. Overall I was very pleased with what we have working with not a lot. I had lasagna with the Cruisers Friday night. Very good, and I joined the club. A special thank you to Cruisers for the use of their Piston Bully after Hornshoe 1 got a sore stomach last week. I also had a great breakfast with Mercer Snow Goers Club yesterday, and Matt and Renee and I are headed to Boulder for breakfast this morning. Our lakes are in great shape. Big heaves on Fence, and some smaller heaves on Crawling Stone. We will be marking lakes Friday, January 24. Pretty cool, I was able to cut and paste yesterday’s report, then edit for today. Now Mary wants me to send her this link to post on Facebook and our website. Cut, paste, post, link. That is a lot of technology for a guy that still can’t color inside of the lines with his crayons. Be safe my friends. Mark

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 3-5”

Date of Report: January 17, 2025

Area Report:

Went out Friday morning to see how the trails were doing. Some trails had enough snow to ride on, others were getting bare in the middle. Overall, I would rate them as Fair. I got home aound 11:30am and the temp was 37 degrees. The sun did peek out for a bit. The county roads have been plowed and sanded, so the roads are bare to the shoulder. Town roads still had some snow cover on them yet.

Most lakes are marked, stay near the barrels when crossing.

North Twin Lake is marked, but has a 3′ (Yes, 3 foot) ice heave in the middle of the lake. They found about a 40′ area to safely cross so you need to stay near the barrels, and SLOW down.

Lower Buckatabon Lake was marked. There is an ice heave closer to the Deer Path end of the lake. Stay near the barrels and slow down

Pioneer Lake is marked.

News and Reports:

Trail 12 from the RR grade TIN 732 to County K TIN 731 has ruts from ATVs. There isn’t enough snow to fill the ruts. We put signs at each end of the trail for Caution Next 1 mile and Rough Trail. Use caution when traveling this area.

The Cemetery Trail from TIN 724 to TIN 725, and south to TIN 727 at Church Rd is thin for snow cover. You will find a few bare spots, There is a hill between TIN 725 and TIN 726 at Lindberg Rd that was bare from sleds going up it. The swamp area did freeze up, so it is good to go.

The temps are going to drop all day on Saturday to negative numbers. If you are riding on Saturday thru Tuesday, dress for the cold temps. Temps rise on Wednesday to a high of 18 degrees.

Trail Report – : Iron County, Michigan – January 17, 2025

Reporter:Colleen

Trail Conditions: Not Ridable

Snow Cover: 3-4 inches

Date of Report: January 17, 2025

Area Report:

Not much new to report on at this time. We received a couple of inches of snow this past Sunday… but need at least 10 inches before groomers will be able to get onto the south and eastern trail system. Our base remains good with lots of ice… and will through-out the next week or so with the “Cold” front moving in this Sunday January 19th. The positive on the cold weather.. it helps keep the base good that we have. It will also help any new snow we get, to stay around a little bit longer.

News and Reports:

Winter Fest has been canceled this weekend at Young’s Recreational Center.  They do live music playing This Saturday evening.

This is Michigan’s scheduled “Free Snowmobile” weekend!  Rideable snow can be found north of us by Sidnaw and perhaps up in the Keweenaw Peninsula if anyone is planning on coming up riding this weekend.

If you enjoy “Ice Fishing” reports are great. Plenty of ice and the fishing has been pretty good too!!

Snowmobile Information:

So far this winter season… snowfall has been low.  Trails are open, but conditions are not in good standings at this time. We have a good ice base… with approximately 3 to 4 inches of snow on the trails themselves.  Again, better riding can be found if you travel north about 25 miles.

Snowmobile permits can be ordered online in advance.. or picked up in local gas stations in Iron River or Crystal Falls.

Trail maps can be picked up at several local businesses, such as motels, gas stations and the Iron County Chamber office in Iron River Michigan.

Please continue to check back in with us regarding any changes in trail conditions. As SOON as we get good snow for trail riding… We will let you know.!!  Come on everybody let’s do the SnowTwist !!   🙂

Trail Report – : Bayfield County, Wisconsin – January 17, 2025

Reporter:BayfieldCounty

Trail Conditions: Poor

Snow Cover: Varies throughout the county

Date of Report: January 17, 2025

Area Report:

TRAIL STATUS:   Trails north of us 2, including the Tri-county corridor,

OPEN 7:00am Saturday, January 18, 2025

SNOW BASE: 0-2 inches

CONDITION: Poor

GENERAL AREA REPORT:

With temperatures in the mid 30’s Friday, riding on the trails with these temps will destroy the already poor condition the trails are in. Overnight lows in the single digits Friday/Saturday will freeze up what minimal snow base we have. Please wait until Saturday morning to get out.

Trails are in early-season conditions. Most trails have been rolled/panned. Please beware of rocks, frozen ruts and small brush in the trail corridor. Adequate snowfall and grooming operations would generally eliminate these hazards.  Trail conditions change drastically from trail to trail, so please ride with caution. Trails inland, further from the lake tend to have more snow.

Forest roads and fire lanes tend to be a smoother and a more enjoyable ride this time of year. Grab and map and explore the hundreds of miles of roads in all of Bayfield County.

Club Reports

Apostle Island Snowmobile Club Most, but not all trails have been rolled. More snow the further you get from the lake. Terrible ruts and rocks in some sections, other sections are decent riding.

Corny Sno-Goers Some trails have been rolled. More snow is needed to fill drainages and low spots in trails, ride with caution. Be extra cautious when taking the road route into Cornucopia, they are working on the power line, heavy equipment and power poles line the road.

Northern Adventures All trails have been panned. Snow varies from trail to trail, 0-2 inch base. Be aware of rocks and light snow conditions in areas.

South Shore Trails Club All trails have been panned. Snow is less closer to the lake, enough to get into towns/businesses, not ideal conditions.

Washburn Valhellers     Groomer is currently out of commission. No trails in this club area have been rolled. Trails further from the lake have more snow, but these trails have been packed by ATV/UTV/snowmobiles and has caused frozen ruts/moguls. Ride with caution.

Waino  Some of the trails have been panned. Trails in early season riding conditions.

Snowmobile Information:

Happy Friday everyone! We are already at 31 degrees in beautiful downtown Hurley, WI at 6:am. We thank all of you for visiting this weekend, and hope everyone who appreciates these trails being open, uses some discretion today. It would be a great day to tread light on our trails to preserve the limited base at this early stage of our season. We should not see any wheeled vehicles on our trails today, and it would probably be a great day to catch up on your trail achievements at one of our great local establishments. Tomorrow you can start making more riding memories again when the deep freeze hits. Our groomers will also not be out until conditions cool down again, later this evening. As always, think snow, and stay safe out there!
