Area Report:

Well it’s officially the end of one of the worst years for snow. Even with a total of 153 inches it was those warm days that ruined our fun. Now with 40°-50° temps for the next week I think our snow will finally go away. Let’s hope next season will bring more cold temps and lots of snow.

A clipper of SNOW moved in about 8am this morning.  Wet & icy mixed with some Lake Effect Snow.   Forecast is 1-2 inches. Too little too late.   This is the last report for the season as the Snowmobile Trails in Vilas County will Close at midnight tomorrow March 31st.   Pretty disappointing season.  Looked to have promise early on and I am glad we did a little riding.   If you want to catch a few more miles of riding head up to the UP today & tomorrow.  Some areas allow riding up there ’til it’s ridden out.  Other area do not & close on the 31st at midnight as well.  So check with someone you know to the best information

Date of Report: March 19, 2024

Area Report:

With the potential for a winter storm coming through the area this weekend and early next week there is a lot of chatter about snowmobile trails opening. Just want to clarify, Bayfield County will NOT be opening trails regardless of the amount of snow that falls. Easements through private property only allow us to operate on trails until March 31st. Gates have been closed and locked, swamps and wet areas will not be frozen enough to ride, let alone groom. 2023-2024 snowmobile season was “officially” over on March 11, 2024 when we closed all motorized trails for spring breakup.

No new news. The Vilas County Snowmobile Alliance have NOT voted to NOT open the trails should SNOW arrive.  With that said it is looking like no opening this year. Haven’t seen a sledding season like this in a long time.  Last I remember was in the mid-80’s. Actually much of the 80’s were up & down. With low SNOW in the early 90’s.  Then we got clobbered with SNOW in ’95. Spoke to a man who remembers in 1973 there was little or no SNOW.  He remembered as it was the year he moved up to Eagle River.

In the meantime come on up and patronize the local businesses!
