EAGLE RIVER TRAILS
All Conditions

Eagle River and all of Vilas county under a Winter Weather Advisory until Saturday morning. Southeast Vilas county that includes Eagle River is forecast to receive 4-6 inches new SNOW.

It’s late season trails, conditions change fast.  For the most part trails are Very Good on average.  Really Very Good condition, even Excellent in the woods. Exception is north side trails along roads & through town.  Snow covered in town but soft & mushy.  Evil sun is out longer breaking down snow. Roads have cover along the edges.   Riding for me has been 10 one ways.  Heading to town which is west on north side has burn throughs especially under the big pines.  Heading back on south side heading east is Very Good except the 70E bridge crossing.

With the potential of sleet & warmer temps as the SNOW system moves in grooming has been halted.  Will resume when the conditions permit.  Stay tuned.

With the number of accidents & fatalities this season will keep reminding you:

When you come upon a group of sleds in front of you on the trail.  Passing them can get you in trouble.   Have been seeing this all winter.  When an entire group passes, by the time the last sled passes, a sled could be coming from the other direction.

Remember as you ride & meet a groomer the equipment is NOT able to leave the trail due to it’s weight.  Pull over & stop.  Wait for direction from the driver.  Give ’em a thumbs up.  They groom so we can ride!

Please ride on the right side, slow down, limit alcohol & no off trail riding.

Barrels have been removed from Eagle Lake. Barrels remain on Catfish Lake trail.  Stay by the barrels on Catfish to be safe. If a lake is not marked it probably is not safe.

Reporter:Phelps Snowmobile Club

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 15″-20″

Date of Report: March 16, 2023

Area Report:

We had some warmer weather that has cut into our snow a bit.  Riding is still good to excellent.  Now that we are halfway through March, trail conditions can change in a matter of hours.  Road routes are bare and should be avoided, for your sleds sake.  Plenty of snow in the woods with road crossing starting to realy show some wear.  More snow, 4″-6″ tonight and tomorrow after som rain today.  Trails should be great for the upcoming weekend.  Hurry and get that last ride of the season in while you can.  Please stay safe and “Ride Right”.

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: Some deteriation with warm weather and rain/ but more snow coming

Date of Report: March 15, 2023

Area Report:

Well, who would have guessed we are still riding good conditions in the middle of March.  We lose snow quickly with warm temps and sun, but the snow machine isn’t turning off.  After some rain tomorrow (Thursday) more snow is predicted into Friday

I have the trails as “good” currently just due to the rain event coming tomorrow.  It will make some exposed trails thin with snirt showing through.

Thursday look ugly with rain in the forecast, then more snow on Friday.

We are continuing to groom nightly.   Still need to drive defensively out there, with all the snow, some of the trail signage is covered.  The groomer drivers are digging them out as they see them.

Barrels have been removed from Boom Lake (in Rhinelander).  Please consider that ride the river at your own risk.

What a season that doesn’t want to end.

Trail Report – : Antigo/Langlade County, Wisconsin – March 15, 2023

Reporter:langlade

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 2-8

Date of Report: March 15, 2023

Area Report:

Langlade County’s Zone A snowmobile trails are in good to excellent condition overall with some thin spots.  The base is about 4-8 inches. THE TRAIL BETWEEN INTERSECTIONS 42 & 42A AND INTERSECTIONS 21B & 22B REMAIN CLOSED.  The Langlade County Snowmobile Ordinance prohibits snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles from operating on the trails when considered closed.

Langlade County’s Zone B snowmobile trails are in good condition with thin stretches and icy spots mainly in low-lying areas. The base is about 2-6 inches.

With warm weather forecasted over the weekend conditions will likely deteriorate some.

Boulder Junction Snowmobile Club Trail Report – Wednesday, 3/15/2023

At 8:00 a.m. it’s 21 degrees out with sunny skies and a high of 43 degrees. Tonight, we will have a low of 34 degrees with on and off rain showers overnight into tomorrow and turning into snow late Thursday into Friday. We could possibly see 6”-8” of snow by Friday.

We groomed 11 and 15S late last night and 2W early this morning. This will be our last grooming until Friday after the snow is over. Use caution on the west end of 8E, the south end of 51, and near the intersection of 2W and 8W as logging operations have increased in these areas.

Get out riding today as tomorrow will be warm and messy. Trails should be in good shape for the weekend.

We have a Vilas County Alliance meeting tonight and we will probably discuss a trail closing date for the year.

Check in Friday, March 17 for an updated trail report.

Enjoy our trails and local businesses this week and as always “Ride Right” and be safe.

Trail Report – : Conover, Wisconsin – March 15, 2023

Reporter:snobuddies

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 12-18″

Date of Report: March 15, 2023

Area Report:

Here we go again. The grooming on Monday night, combined with the cold temps set the trails up beautifully for a ride on Tuesday. But that evil sun came out yesterday and today. So, where it is hitting the trails, it has melted that snow. But in the woods under cover of the trees, the base is holding.

There won’t be any grooming Wednesday and Thursday. We will see what the next system brings whether we groom Friday or Saturday. So far, weather report is rain starting Wednesday, changing to snow into Thursday and lasting until Saturday. What time that rain changes over is going to tell how much we get. Some reports are saying 3-5″, and others saying 5-10″.

I’ll report back with more info when it happens.

Remember with the March tempurture swings, the trails can start out firm in the morning, and change to soft mushy conditions by afternoon. When riding, be aware of these changes occuring. Also, towns have been winging the snow banks farther off the roads, so there maybe trail crossings with a higher bank to cross.

News and Reports:

  • A reminder to ride between the orange blazers. Be careful in corners as there is an ice layer under the snow. Ride Right ➡️ Ride Safe.

Area Report:

LINCOLN COUNTY: All Zones Open.

ONEIDA COUNTY: Open.

Trail conditions are currently fair. High traffic areas and those exposed to sun may be thin. However, warm temperatures and rain Wednesday and the potential for several inches of snow Thursday night through Friday means conditions will be changing rapidly.

Zone 1 Trails remaining closed are as follows: Trail 86 from Intersection #25 to the Taylor County Line. Corridor 21 from Hwy M north of Homestead Road to the Taylor County Line.

ATVs are only allowed on designated trails when temperatures are below 28F. No UTVs.

As always, we remind riders to stay on marked trails. Off trail riding is trespassing and could result in closure or loss of trails and citations and fines for those who participate.
