Trail Report: Presque Isle, Wisconsin – December 14, 2016

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover: 15″

Date of Report: December 14, 2016

Area Report:

Vilas County Trails open tomorrow, Thursday 12/15 at 12pm! The Presque Isle Sno Bunnies are working hard and reporting that all accessible trails have been rolled to pack them down and allow the ground to freeze. This also allows the wet areas to freeze which is what really needs to happen right now. They are grooming now with the drag.

We have wet sections on our trail system that the groomers will bypass until they are frozen enough to hold the weight of the groomer. Our cold, negative-degree nights should help move this along… Still, wet areas should be expected and rode with caution. We have about 15″ on the ground in Presque Isle, with a little more to the north and little less to the south. Trails are in early-season condition, and extra care and caution should be taken especially near swamps and LAKES — MANY ARE UNSAFE and the only ones deemed safe are flagged.

Ride safe, all and have fun!

Trail Report: Boulder Junction, Wisconsin – December 14, 2016

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover: 6-8

Date of Report: December 14, 2016

Area Report:

I’m happy to be reporting that the trails will open Thursday at noon. We have been out panning the last several days and the trails overall are in pretty good shape. Don’t expect them to be perfect, as we have only had limited snow to work with but they are smooth. Watch out for weeds that are still poking up through the snow, it will take a few days of riding to knock them down. Trail 2West was logged this fall and a section of it is privately owned, that section is very rough and rutted, so use caution between Whitney Lake road and just north of K when on trail 2. Enjoy the new season, I will be reporting on trail conditions on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays through  the season.  Ride safe.
